I'll create a document with a table that doesn't contain confidential info, and
will put it up here later tonight or tomorrow when I get a chance. The document
I'm sending will be created first in Word '07, then converted to .odt in OOo
Writer, to better reproduce how my current documents originated (I think they
were created in Word '03; maybe something in the conversion does it?).

I suspect it's not a document issue though, I suspect it's a display bug rather
than document corruption, since it loads correctly most of the time and seems to
go awry with any given document rather than just one document in particular.

Took me a while but it finally reappeared. When you want a problem to happen,
it decides to be shy. :)

I'd prefer not to submit a sample document (all my Writer documents contain
confidential information, my game development documents). I tried making a new
dummy document with a table but it appears correctly (I had one saved, that I
could load when the problem recurs, but I deleted it because it hasn't happened
in so long & I though it was gone. I'll do this again). I have included a
screenshot showing the issue (and little private information). Looks like it's
not just italics but boldface as well. In this case, when I highlight both
corrupted cells and turn off boldface, the text appears normally. It also
appears normally when I turn on italics and leave boldface on, but when I turn
italics off again the problem reappears. The table's boldfaced text should read
(top left cell), "Action Skills" and (top right cell), "Task CL or Modifier".
Deleting text in those cells and rewriting does not correct the issue, only
closing and reloading Writer makes it appear correctly. Maybe it's a font
loading issue? The font in those cells is DejaVu Sans Condensed 8pt. And
changing the font size to anything other than 8pt corrects the problem (which
reappears after reverting back to 8pt). This problem is not reproducible, as
the next time I reload Writer it'll probably appear correctly and I don't have
any idea when it will corrupt again. Curiously, the document just now has
returned to normal without me closing Writer... the only thing I did was make
the new document and alter the Zoom settings in that document?

Thanks.

About 50% of the time I load Writer, some of the text in table cells formatted
in italics appears with some letters placed in the wrong horizontal (x)
position. When I close OOo and restart the app, it often displays all text
correctly, though it could take two or three restarts sometimes. This issue has
persisted since at least OOo 2.x (I have no experience with 1.x). I'm presently
running OOo 3.0.1 on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine, and used OOo 2.x with SP2 in
the past. Java has consistently been updated to the latest version, and no
changes to this buggy behavior have occurred with each update.
