This could blow up the menu to 28 commands (including up to seven suggestions for correct spelling). I want to see the most common commands added: cut, copy paste. Any other additional menu item needs to be justified based on usage tracking data. BTW, I do object against marking an invalid issue as a duplicate of this one. This means that all modules will be installed, ignoring the pre-selection of modules. This is in conflict with the new (3.3) feature of bundled extensions that are integrated into the installer. There will be some bundled extensions which won't be installed by default, as they alter the OOo UI. The option Complete not only is uncommon on Windows, it also conflicts with the default option Standard in our Java GUI installer on Linux and Unix. Please adjust the Windows default to Standard (or whatever term is more appropriate), including the GUI strings as well as the installer behavior (=install only pre-selected modules). [framework-issues] [Issue 110827] StartCenter : ODF icons n ot compliant with the possibility to have MS-O ffice as default format
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=110827 User lh changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX --- Additional comments from l...@openoffice.org Tue Apr 13 09:18:46 + 2010 --- This is not a regression. Like before, the icons displayed on the start center (and on the File - New menu, and on the main tool bar) are the icons which OOo uses for it's default file format. Like before, there is no relation to the actual file format chosen by the user - whether or not it was set as default under Tools - Options - Load/Save. Even before 3.2.1, the mime type icons used were specific to ODF files. OOo used (and uses) different icons to display non-ODF documents, like .doc or .sxw. So even before 3.2.1, the icons meant ODF. It is just that with 3.2.1, OOo comes with more clarity about it's default file format. That's why it displays ODF so prominently in places related to document creation actions. Yes, there is also some strategic component to this decision (i.e. promote ODF), but OOo's document content (incl. formatting, meta data, macros, etc.) can only be completely saved into OD[F] format. So even from a logical view, OOo is an ODF editor primarily. That's what justifies these icons in places mentioned above. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Reason is that our toolbar expects 26x26 pixel icons, but for the last couple of years we delivered 32x32 pixel icons, which are then downsized (i.e. squeezed) automatically. The previous icon design was a little coarser (graphically), so the effect didn't surface as clear. I don't see this as a regression, but certainly as an opportunity for improvement - for 3.3. Right-click somewhere onto the empty document. Even on a fairly fast machine, it takes up to 2 seconds (feels like 3-5 secs) until the popup menu is shown. [graphics-issues] [Issue 103776] Synchronize intervals / s cale of two Y axes
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103776 Issue #|103776 Summary|Synchronize intervals / scale of two Y axes Component|Chart Version|OOo 3.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|kla Reported by|lh --- Additional comments from l...@openoffice.org Fri Jul 24 13:28:20 + 2009 --- Using two Y axes and a Y axis grid easily leads to the situation, that the grid lines don't match the interval ticks of the secondary Y axis - because they originate from the primary Y axis. This makes it very hard to properly read values for data series attached to the secondary Y axis. If the two axes were aligned, i.e. if they had the same number of intervals, the grid would match both axes, and data would be easier to read. There are two ways to achieve this: leave the scale of the secondary Y axis as is and just adjust the number of intervals on it. This isn't too smart, because one may end up with secondary Y axis intervals at 16.4, 32.8, 49.2 etc. The second, and probably better way is to adjust the scale of the secondary Y axis, by increasing it's maximum (or minimum, in case of negative numbers) to some smart value, so that automatically calculated intervals would match the ones from the primary Y axis. With smart I mean something like to the next full number, full thousand, full million or whatever matches the scale of the axis best. Easy example: - Two data series: (1, 2, 3) and (3, 4, 5). - Map second to secondary Y axis. - Primary Y axis is scaled from 0 to 3.5 (seven intervals) - Secondary Y axis is scaled from 0 to 6 (six intervals) If the second Y axis had it's maximum at 7, it would have had the same number of intervals, ad a Y axis grid would work for both. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It is a plain usability bug. The user has to be able to select hyperlinks using the mouse, just as he does with normal text. In fact, selecting a hyperlink with the mouse works, *if* one starts at the end of a link - very strange work-around, isn't it? I don't recall if we ever designed it this way intentionally, nevertheless it is a usability issue that has to be fixed more urgently than P4 usually suggests. We will not feature single extension promoting (s.e.p.) touch points. With s.e.p. I mean the kind of touch points that _offers_ (promotes) functionality without the necessary extension being installed, e.g. a menu command. The reason is: If we start with one such touch point, nothing would keep others from adding touch point to each of their extensions, too. At the end, OOo would be full of such instances, all leading to pop-us, downloads, etc. This is nothing, a user would want. Plus, in case of conflicting extensions, each OOo distributor would probably include only extensions they would like... In contrast to this, we will allow for content triggered extension (c.t.e.) touch points. An example for content triggered is an ODF-file, that contains data which requires a certain extension to view or modify it. The touch point would be e.g. a message box that pops up when the user tries to access the file or the respective content. With this basic distinction between single extension touch points, I would like to return the issue as WONTFIX. We may look into the content triggered instances for the Report Builder in more detail, but for the promoting touch point, the state WONTFIX is most applicable. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If I remember correctly, the option is a relict from a time, when it was rather uncommon to save file name extensions on Unix Linux. Today it is most common to save files WITH extensions on common platforms (even Pages on MacOS does, though it doesn't actually save a document as a single file, but that's another story). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But changing the dialog one platform at a time is O.K., as long as the other platforms are planned to be changed, i.e. there are issues for the other platforms. I would like to submit issues for all the other platforms, but I need to know the complete list of platforms which we need to tackle separately from each other, e.g. Win98-XP, WinVista, LinuxKDE (?), MacOS, Solaris (?), OOo selfmade dialog, ... Who would be the resprective owners for each of these? And no, this is not a UX doesn't care change. It affects a frequently used dialog. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=73876 User lh changed the following: What|Old value |New value Assigned to|lho |as OS/Version|Linux |All --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jun 22 14:47:37 + 2007 --- I agree, from a user experience view, the settings doesn't make sense any more (for an end-user). Why bothering the majority of users with a setting hardly ever used *every time* when they use this dialog? Plus, as Michael described, it is rather dangerous, as unintended deactivation of the feature leads to results that render many file based tools (e.g. the Windows desktop ;-) ) useless. However, it shouldn't be fixed on gnome only, but across all supported platforms, and in our native file picker as well. That's why I change OS: to all. To be very clear: the scope of this issue is just to hide or remove the option Automatic file name extension from the file save dialog. This is not about changing the way how OOo actually assigns a file name extension (if automatic=on). For API stability or configuration compatibility reasons, we may need to decide to keep the configuration setting, but still, the UI shall be removed. Andreas, thanks for taking over!
