[sw-issues] [Issue 83641] Equation objects from MS-W ord do not render well in OOo

However, as long as it just squeezes the equation, the content is at least not lost. A problem with OOo's treatment of the equation is that if you doubleclick the equation, then it will be destroyed beyond repair. Quite interestingly, if one transforms the Word document to ODT format, then OOo 2.3 (Windows) also squeezes the equation like WordViewer BUT one can enlarge the object to its proper size. Theis is for onknown reasons not possible within OOo 2.3 (Linux). I agree that the problem is mostly on the MS side. My Word 2000 even suggested via a wizard not to use MS-Equation 3 but some other equation editor (which I do not have). If they only had relied on TeX for mathematical formulas! The issue for OOo would be to decide whether or not to support equations like the one in my test file. Word 2000 (and I guess other versions) can - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Apparently, OpenOffice cannot interpret the equation's internal representation). Converting the Word file to ODT format does not help. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The original document is created by WinWord-2000 using MS-Equation 3.0. The problem apparently depends on the existence of the MS-Equation component: if one opens the document on MS-Windows with OOo 2.3, then everything is just fine. However, the rendering of the equation on OOo 2.3 under Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) is almost unreadable. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. My Linux configuration: Ubuntu 7.0.4 (64bit) OpenOffice 2.2.0 (as provided by Ubuntu) When I doubleclick an SDA file (which I had created some years ago with StarOffice 5.x), OpenOffice starts up but asks me to select a filter. I tried all reasonable variants, but in all cases the system reports 'General Error. General input/output error'. When I try the same under Windows XP with OpenOffice 2.2.1, OpenOffice flawlessly opens the file ans displays it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
