When creating a List style in the Slide Master (view > Master > Slide Master),
the style cannot be copy-pasted to another Slide Master. It has to be rebuild
from scratch every time. Applying a slide-design to a Slide Master does not
work.

Request 1: Enable copy-pasting of list styles in Slide Masters
Request 2: Create list style formatting similar to Writer (unlink it from the
Slide Masters)
My guess is that enabling copy-pasting for Slide Masters would be easier. My
choice would still be Request 2. For explanation see my related issue: 99589

Currently, when colleagues create a list inside a manually created textbox a
standard list will appear. List style for the textbox has to be rebuild from
scratch even if the list style is set in the Slide Master.

Steps:
(sorry if there are mistakes, I'm running on the Dutch 3.0.1 and still haven't
downloaded the English build)

- Create a Slide Master with a list style (change the colors of the bullets)
- Close the Slide Master and apply the layout design to a slide
- Check if it works > the colors should be changed of the list
- Go to the toolbar for Drawing and select the Rectangular Tool (or the textbox
tool)
- Create a rectangle inside the slide. Double click inside it and start to type.
- Right click and create a list of it > the list will be with standard black
bullets, not with the style set in the Slide Master.

If the use of list styles in Impress were similar to Writer I could apply the
right style and work more structurally.

Hi Cor,

tnx for the reply: creating list style based on Slide Master works.

I've found a new issue with it though: List style embedded in one Slide Master
cannot be copy-pasted into another Slide Master. It has to be rebuild from
scratch inside the new Slide Master. I will make a new issue of it.

Could the following be a solution to this problem?:
Create pagination for sections; and let sections become the meta-level for
pagination.

Sections could separate the types of text.
Section TOC: i, ii, iii
Section Body: 1,2,3 ...
Section Appendix: A-1, A-2, A-3...

Changes in text (addition or substraction) in Section Body would only affect the
pagenumbering within that section.

Levels for Headings would still be used in the way > The location of the heading
is only affected by the Section in which it is embedded. In TOC pagenumber of
section would be shown.

If user has no sections created > "Standard Section" is automatically used for
whole document by Writer > ordinary users would feel no difference in working
with OOo.

This way of working would be similar to that of Adobe's InDesign. See screenshot
(of InDesign CS2). I have missed this feature in OOo.
Note for screenshot: in InDesign you can create page-Masters and drag&drop them.
This is similar to Writers use of Page Styles. In InDesign you can add a section
to a Pagemaster (section-start is shown with a small black triangle on top of
the page). Each section can have its own pagenumber style (1-2-3;i-ii-iii etc).

It would be nice if there would be a similar GUI in Writer to InDesign which
shows an overview of all assigned pagestyles with their respective pagenumbers.
I would like it especially for having an overview of the locations of my
landscape pages in my portrait oriented document.

Requesting List Styles option in Styles & Formatting window. This feature is
available in Styles & Formatting of Writer.

Reason: Formatting a numbering or bullet style in Impress is ad-hoc, not
structural. It is structural in Writer.

Structural means I am working with Style Sheets. These style sheets affect all
my text that has the same style in my document. Ad-Hoc means I only affect my
text locally (which means I have to do it manually throughout my document).

Simulation:
- Open Impress with an empty presentation.
- In tab Normal (above the slide) choose in the first slide the Layout "Title, 2
Text blocks" (Layout tab is probably located on the right)
- Type 3 lines of text in each of the two textblocks > 3 bullets should appear
in each block
- To change the bullets structurally (not ad-hoc) to Numbering go to: Format >
Styles & Formatting. A window appears.
- Click in the text with a bullet, the cursor should blink in this line of text.
- Consequently in the window Styles & Formatting "Outline 1" should become
selected (black or blue) in the tab Presentation Styles (second button in
Styles&Formatting)
- Rightclick on "Outline 1", choose Modify
- Go to tab Numbering Type and choose the first one. Click OK.
- Now both textblocks should have numbering instead of bullets.

- The issue comes now: The numbering sticks to the text > I want to add some
space between my numbering and text.
- In Writer I go in the Styles&Formatting window to List Styles (5th button) and
format my Numbering Style structurally.
- In Impress this is only possible to change it ad-hoc:
- Select the text from the first text box.
- Rightclick inside the selection and choose Numbering/Bullets
- Go to tab Position and click on Level 1
- Change the value of "Width of Numbering" to 2,00cm. Click OK
- The first textbox now has distance between the numbering and text. The second
textbox doesn't.
>>> This is the issue > I do not want to change all my numbering distances
manually over all my slides. For this I need the option List Styles in the
Styles&Formatting window. In writer the numbering in both textboxes would have
changed to my new distance.

Requesting a Japanese dictionary for the spelling checker of OOo.

There is a Creative Commons dictionary project (of Jim Breen) online that allows
to adapt their dictionary to projects such as OOo.
The project can be found on:
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdicinf.html#dicfil_tag

There are (converted) .dic files of the Jim Breen project available at:
http://www.japaneselanguagetools.com/docs/WDIC.html

This dictionary has been used in for example the extension Rikai-chan for
Firefox (polarcloud.com)

Running on OOo 3.0, Dutch build. In order to contribute to the forum or to file
issues I need to work with the English User Interface.

In the current situation it is terrible to add an extra Languagepack to OOo 3.0
Reasons:
- Wiki for langpacks are outdated:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Download_OpenOffice.org_LanguagePacks
- Difficult to find Langpack (only one):
http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html

Workaround in OOo 2x:
- In OOO 2x I have always installed a different build of OOo in a separate
folder. This created 2 icons in my system tray: one for English UI, one for
Dutch UI.
- In OOo 3.0 it is not possible to install more OOo's in separate folders.

Request: Every language build needs to install 2 User Interfaces: the build
language (i.e. Dutch) and the English one. The build language is set as Default.
The English UI is optional via Tools > options > Language Settings > Languages
> UI

In my document I have an appendix. This appendix has to be visible in my TOC and
in the Navigator.

Adding the appendix to the TOC is no problem:
For this I created an additional style based on Heading1 named "Appendix 1".
To add the "Appendix 1" style to the TOC I have added it to
- Insert > Indexes& Tables > Indexes&Tables
- check the box for Additional Styles > click on the Ellipsis button
- Add "Appendix 1" to level 1 > OK > OK

I am unable to display my Appendix in the Navigator inside the Headings-group.
Requesting an additional feature for this.

I want to create an Alphabetic Index from the scientific terms in my thesis.
For my scientific terms, a new character style has been created for my thesis
called "Scientific term".
This character style has been used for all my English scientific terms throuhout
my thesis. These terms appear in italics in my thesis.

In order to create an Alphabetic Index from these scientific terms I have to
turn them into "Index Entries".
For this, I need an enhancement in the option in Insert > Index&Tables > Entry.
It has to be able to convert all text that has the character style "Scientific
Term" to Index Entries.
This function is currently unavailable in Writer 2.4 and 3.0beta.

The Word Completion tab not available in Calc, only in Writer.
Calc does have a word-completion function when you typ inside the cells, but you
can't configure it in Calc via Tools > AutoCorrect

Why is this feature needed:
I have a certain word in allCAPS (DEN HAAG) that keeps popping up when I hit the
ENTER key to go the next cell. I typ "Den Haag" and it is changed to "DEN
HAAG".
I cannot remove this word "DEN HAAG" from the wordcompletion list, because this
tab is not available in AutoCorrect of Calc.

Changes in the settings of WordCompletion in Writer do not change the settings
of Wordcompletion in Calc.

When mixing a color in Extra > Options > OpenOffice.org > Colors
there isn't a color sampler tool available.

Color sampler should be able to select colors from text and images.
Text from old Word files that are converted to ODT depict the right colors in
the text, but there is no access to the RGB or CMYK values.
>>> I had to mix the colors by eye inside Writer.

Colorsampler tool: Similar functionality can be found with Photoshops Color
Sampler

In Excel there is the keyboard shortcut F4 which repeats the last action taken.
This feature is missing in Calc (and should be integrated in OOo package).

Inside Impress: Insert > File > choose presentation file ODP or PPT > press OK >
insert slide menu appears.
In this menu there are no thumbnails or a preview-option available for the
slides.

_When Pictures are grouped in Word and saved as .doc > displayed wrong in OOo
2.4 Writer. Appears to duplicate both group parts.

_Attached ZIP containing example in "test grouped.doc"

_When ungrouping in Writer, the both parts contain duplication > original
picture appears destroyed.

_Attached a correct version. When Ungrouped in Word and saved as .doc, Writer
views the pictures correct.

Main question: Workaround possible to view pictures correctly only using Writer?
Reason: Clients have migrated to OOo and work with only OOo. MS Office is not
available on computers.

Nested styles automate the use of various character styles within a paragraph
style.

Nested styles feature needed that works similar to InDesign.
In the movie of the link you can see clearly what InDesigns approach is (after
about 5 minutes).
