May I get a short reply on this issue, please?

At least, it would be nice to know if someone else made a similar experience.

Thank you.

Hi,

I was just trying to convert my latest book to OpenDocument with the new 2.0RC1.
I managed to convert the template and chapter files flawlessly. But the last
step doesn't seem to work: Converting the master document.

This is what I was trying to do:
Step 1: Creating a new document from the desired template (ott format)
Step 2: Sending to Master Document

Step 2 failed! The save file dialog does not present an option to save as
OpenDocument Master Document. Instead the one and only option is to save as
OpenOffice 1.0 Master Document.

This seems to be a bug. Or am I doing something completely wrong?

Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Sincerely,
Volker Puttrich @ MindArray

But as I said before: The rightmost column works properly.

A workaround would be to not insert leading tabs and use styles for indentation.
This makes the right align tab work again.

Ok, I was trying to find out more about this issue and it seems that I got it...
I found a way to let you reproduce the issue.

First off, I think I found this issue by accident, because I was using the index
feature the wrong way. Or using it in a way others wouldn't use it. Let me
tell you what I did first, and then what I did to get it working the way it
should be.

I was trying to set up an alphabetical index using all three levels with a
concordance file, level two and three indented, and everything in three columns.
To do this, I was only using options from the dialog where you set up the index.
That means I was using the 3-columns option from there and, most important here,
I was trying to set up the indentation from this dialog (tab sheet Entries). I
did not use any styles from anywhere else.

To get level 2 and 3 indented I inserted a Tab stop to the left of those two
entries and assigned 0.5cm and 1.0cm as positions (no fill character here). The
tab to the right of the E has had a dot as fill char and Align right has
been checked. It looked like this:

S: [E]
1: [E][T][#]
2: [T][E][T][#]
3: [T][E][T][#]

This directly leads to the issue. The aditional Tab stops are the problem. The
issue arises as soon as you have more than one column for output. It only
appears in columns to the left, the column to the very right works properly with
that configuration. Checking/unchecking the Tab position relative to Paragraph
Style Indent does not change anything.

To avoid this issue, I simply left the formatting of entries as they are
pre-set. The indentation is now set up with the styles for level 2 and 3, using
Indent before text (Styles: Index 2 and Index 3). The pre-set Tab stops
can now be configured for everything possible (e.g. using dots and Align
right).

Summary: As soon as you insert an additional Tab stop into the formatting of
Entries, and use more than one column, you get this issue. But only for levels
that have the additional Tab stop.

I hope this helps, this time...

Regards,
Volker Puttrich

I made a document that shows the effect. The document also contains information
and instructions on how to reproduce the effect.

You may try to reproduce the issue without using my sample. Do the following:

1) Create a PNG image at 24 bit color depth and transparent alpha channel. A
circle would be fine to see text wrapping around the contour.

2) Create a new Writer document and add text to it.

3) Insert the image at the beginning or the end of a paragraph and call up the
settings dialog for the image.

4) Apply the following settings:
a) Scale the image to let's say 150% in both dimensions (any other percentage
will do as well).
b) Turn on wrapping (dynamic, left, right or both) and turn on contour mode.

5) Move the image to a place where the chosen wraping mode makes sense.

6) Save the document.

7) Make a slight change to the text so you can save the document again.Save the
again.

8) Scroll the image out of view and back into it. At best you can still see the
contour now, but the image is gone.

To get the image back you will have to turn off contour and wrapping. You can
reproduce the effect at any time by repeating steps 4 to 8.

Sorry, but I forgot something to mention...

Correction to step 3: Insert the image linked. That's important!

After some more experimenting with inserted images I can give more details...

The issue does NOT only apply to the last image inserted, nor does it have to do
with multiple columns. It always happens if wrapping with contour is used. After
saving the document and scrolling the image out of view and then back, the image
is gone.

In my previous post I said that there is no chance to get the image back
(visible). This is not true. As soon as you turn off contour, or at least when
you turn off wrapping, the image will be visible again.

Sorry for the mistakes in my first post, but for an exuse: I'm pretty new to OOo
and word processing in general. (But used to MM Freehand ;))

On a sidenote: OOo is so much better than MS Word. It offers much more freedom
in styling and just everything. Thanks!

The last image inserted into a document sometimes hides if it is in a multi
column page. This happens randomly after some actions is performed, such as
saving the document or whatever else you do with the document.

It might be that it only happens if the images extends over the width of a
column. It's a bit hard to reproduce, unfortunately, because most of the time
the images does not hide.

If it happens, you still see the control frame and you still have full access to
the images settings, uncluding file selection (if it is linked). But whatever
settings you change, this will not make the image visible again. The only way to
get it back is to delete it and re-insert it.

This issue aplies to all versions of OOo that I know (1.1.4, 1.1.5rc and 2.0.x
beta)!

If you use multiple columns for keyword indices only the last column is
formatted properly as you have set it. Columns to the left just ignore any
separator chars and right aligning. Left aligning tabstops do work, however.
The issue only arises at a depth of 2 and deeper!

Example:
If you create an index with three columns, set the page numbers to be right
aligned and dots to separate the keyword from the page numbers, these settings
will only apply to the third (or rightmost) column. This behavior can be seen at
any depth, except the first, and across pages. Further it seems that any kind of
formatting to the right of a keyword is problematic.
