This still exists and it is really a bug imho. When trying on a boolean column
you get an error message showing the default value not being filled in when
writing, although it is visible in the gui.

For varchar one has to change at least one char in the field, otherwise it
impossible to leave the table anyhow.

Tried on OOo 3.2 / Win32

Beautiful, I'm very happy with the listeners.

For the continuation constants the answer depends on what will happen in the
future. Conceptually this design is very clean and useful, if it will ever be
used cannot be decided now (IMHO). From a technical view the main question is if
resuming from a failure is possible with justifiable effort.

The API looks pretty usable so far. If I think about instatiating the wizard
from BASIC mostly anything seems to be in place.

On the dad-sevice: definitively useful when importing external data sources,
otherwise a workaround (e.g. making a temporary registered database) would be
needed.

On the error reporting:
5 for having the line or record number failing on in the exception message
shown to the user
4.5 for knowing the column position (.csv) or field (table) causing the error
3 or less for detailed detection and description of the exact error cause.
1 for trying to do some automatic repair or recovery. If the data is faulty,
the user should repair or reformat it before importing.

Hey, so it's a feature well known from CSV and the like. :)

I'd like to suggest two actions then:

1. The import wizard could have one more checkbox labeled use first line as
field names as usual.

2. There should be some information in the online help that are easy to find in
the context of cp to base.

tl:
I've tried the basic code today on OO.o 2.0.2-de Release (680m5, build 8011 or
9011 ;):

Running on Win98se it's still there, the converion from utf8 fails. The
dictionary I've use i the one from OO.o2.

The history of this installation should be: tried 2.0 RC1 in parallel to 1.1.5,
put 2.0.2 release over it. So I'm not absolutely sure if the dictionary is old
or new. It 's soffice.dic and I'll attach it later.

Testing a newer version will take some time...

There should at least be some little configuration tool for adapting the paths
once after istallation or changes.

I agree to some degree with not needing all paths after they are set, but it has
to be done sometimes and there should be a convenient way to do so.

So I propose making a configuration tool or integrating in one of the available.
That way we'd have both: a method of editing paths and no GUI option page.

My first diagnosis of does nothing was wrong, running the macro actually does
write a zipped file under the name test with no type extension.

Btw. changing dim Args(2) ... to the correct dim Args(1) ... makes no
diffence.

In the macro library Tools.UCB the function LoadDataFromFile should
be changed like this:

now
Function LoadDataFromFile(FilePath as String, DataList()) as Boolean
...
oFile = oUcb.OpenFileReadWrite(FilePath)
oInputStream.SetInputStream(oFile.GetInputStream)
...
/now

new
Function LoadDataFromFile(FilePath as String, DataList()) as Boolean
...
oFile = oUcb.OpenFileRead(FilePath)
oInputStream.SetInputStream(oFile)
...
/new

because on Unix like operating systems the ordinary user has no right to
open files not owned by himself for writing.

Use case:
I wanted to open the file:

OpenOffice.org1.1.3/share/psprint/psprint.conf

for making a list of names of predefined printers. I couldn't because the
file is owned by root. With this modification it works and the function
is universally usable for macro writers.

I haven't found the place where it is used from originally, so the spot
in some autopilot or the like making this function necessary should be checked
for regression. From reading the code of the function I see no problem, only
read access is done.

OO.o base is lacking the functionality for purging the records marked for
deletion in a DBase table. Currently these tables are growing all the time.

The name for this funtion should be pack (german Reorganisieren).

Another related task is to rebuild the indexes with a reindex command.

Both of these should be available at the GUI (SO5.2 had it in the context menu
at the tables node in the DB browser) and via API for using programmatically.

When dictionary entries are inserted into a writer doc from SBASIC code
the enconding is not respected, special chars (german umlauts and the like)
are not converted correctly.

This problem vanishes if the locale is set to de_DE.UTF-8 before staring
OO.o.

Tested with:
OO.o 1.1.3-de/FreeBSD
OO.o 1.1.5-de/Windows 98
OO.o 1.1.5-de/Windows 2000
OO.o 2.0 RC1-de/Windows 98

Any combination garbles special chars, only on FreeBSD with locale
set to de_DE.UTF-8 the chars are shown correctly.

You find a complete description and diagnosis and testing code for
reproducing below:

Hi,

I'm using dictionaries from basic code and noticed a problem. When the
search word from a dictionary entry is inserted into a writer doc the
encoding is not shown correctly.

Try this in a german localized version:

sub encError
   dls = createUnoService(com.sun.star.linguistic2.DictionaryList)
   dic = dls.getDictionaryByName(soffice.dic)
   entries = dic.getEntries()
   msgbox entries(16).getDictionaryWord()
end sub

In a german language version of OO.o 1.1.x this should read
Bemaßungslinien but the char ß is not converted correctly. This
holds true for the german OO.o2.0-RC1/Windows, too.

Is this worth filing an issue or is it a pilots error?

It sure sounds like an error (so please file an issue):
XDictionaryEntry.getDictionaryWord returns a UNO string, which is
Unicode, so no excuse to garble an ß (and Basic's msgbox command
should also be fully Unicode...).

Thank for replying.

I only thought I was missing some conversion function or the like
because all umlauts are garbled too. They are shown as two chars in a
writer doc. And from the GUI anything works as expected ...

You mean, adding text to a writer doc via some Basic code (where the
text to be added is represented as a literal Basic string) leads to
garbled characters? That's strange. Maybe Andreas Bregas knows whether
there is some part of Basic or the Basic IDE that works with
locale-dependent text encodings instead of Unicode?

 Yes, that's what I wanted to say.

 Another Test fpor the german localized OO.o:

 sub encError2
   BasicLibraries.LoadLibrary(Tools)
   dls = createUnoService(com.sun.star.linguistic2.DictionaryList)
   dic = dls.getDictionaryByName(soffice.dic)
   entries = dic.getEntries()
   tmpDoc = CreateNewDocument(swriter)
   csr = tmpDoc.Text.createTextCursor()
   tmpDoc.Text.string = entries(16).getDictionaryWord() ' ß
   tEnd = tmpDoc.Text.getEnd()
   tEnd.String = entries(46).getDictionaryWord() ' ö
 end sub

 This does garble the special chars, too.

 Regards,
 Marc

Two things I noticed when trying to reproduce this:

1 You must be using a non-UTF-8 locale (probably 8859-1), check the
environment variable LANG. If you set LANG to something like
de_DE.UTF-8 the problem should go away.

2 If you modify the Basic script by adding

 tEnd = tmpDoc.Text.getEnd()
 tEnd.String = äöü
   end sub

to the end, you see that Basic is not the culprit, as the umlauts show
up correctly in the writer doc, regardless of LANG setting.

I suspect that the OOo dictionary implementation erroneously uses
osl_getThreadTextEncoding() (which depends on LANG) to translate the
(obviously UTF-8 encoded) strings within the dictionary data base to
Unicode. Please update the issue (did you already write one?) accordingly.

When using

   OOo_2.0.0rc1_050923_Win32Intel_install_de.exe

on

   Windows 98

for importing version 1.x standalone base forms in sxw files by copy paste the
controls get inserted in a fresh .odb file internal form each on it's own new
form named standard.

To reproduce:
1. open a registered .odb file
2. open a .sxw standalone form working on the same datasource
3. switch the old form in design mode
4. select all controls by mouse or in the form navigator
5. select copy from toolbar
6. switch to the new form in the .odb file
7. select paste from the toolbar

In the form navigator the hirarchy looks similar to this:

forms
  standard
label1
  standard
textfield1
  standard
label2
  standard
imagecontrol1

and so on, although all controls have been in the one and only form named
standard in the source file.

Some ideas touching the subject:

If actions were implemented like described in the navigation_buttons.sxw spec
it would be nice to have them not only bound to buttons, like suggested earlier.
At least I can imagine a custom menu entry launching forms for fulfilling the
needs of a database app. That would build a bridge to other applications like
writer and calc, too. Think of action objects in Java bound to menus or buttons
and you'll get the idea.

Another related topic is multi window capability. Frank mentioned modal forms
which are one method of getting switchable forms. Others would be using MDI
(only inside a base document for db apps) or some form of tabbed notebook (as
called in GTK+) like for the tables in a calc doc. One could open a bunch of
forms and switch around easily by clicking tabs at the edge of the document
window (maybe the implementation in calc can be reused here). If the developer
wants full control over form switching he should be able to hide the tabs.
Another profit gained would be having references to the forms for checking
instance count and keeping forms alive.

If non modal forms are used it might be handy to have a parameter for storing
info about the caller. For example if a user is filling in orders to one form
and has to add a new customer inbetween, the orders form could be re-activated
automagically after closing the customers form. The first opened or master form
then can be identified by checking the caller ref for a NULL value.

(I had to use 2.0 Beta2 as tag but this issue belongs to 2.0rc1 not in
the list of versions ...)

When creating a new table with the wizard using one of the predefined
templates an additional field will not remember it's changed name.

Reproducable like this:

Start the wizard
Select any table template (the first auto selected will do)
Push all fields to the list of fields to use
Klick next
- the field list is shown
Klick +
- a new field named Feld is shown (german version)
Change the name and type
Klick next
Switch to select field from list for primary key
Drop down the list of fields
- the name isn't remembered, Feld is shown instead

Tested with:

OOo_2.0.0rc1_050923_Win32Intel_install_de.exe

If calc cells are formatted with a hard format of boolean value this
formatting gets disposed if any integer value is typed into the cell.

Reproducable like this:

Select any cell
Via menu: Format - Cells
In the dialog switch to page Numbers
Select Boolean Value from the list
Klick OK
Type in any small integer, e.g. 0 or 1
- the value is shown as typed in
- the cell format is switched to Number

This may be the result of auto content type detection, but it is not
what the user (me) expects, if he manually set the number format.

Tested with:

OOo 1.1.0/FreeBSD
OOo 1.1.3/FreeBSD
OOo_2.0.0rc1_050923_Win32Intel_install_de.exe

Not that I'm volunteering right now (spare time -2h/day ;), but:

To make this really easy to do, the experienced developers would do good in
adding some pointer to the involved sources.
