any news ?

I would really like to have my Impress presentations with all the animations and
OpenGL effects be exported into videos. maybe using the ffmpeg library ?
so i can have a choice in codec or file container. that could be nice.

Kindly,
Nadav :-)

When i set effects on some text elements (on different slides)
while running the presentation, and after they were animated correctly
into view, they disappear when slides change from one to the other.

I am using slide transitions: Outside turning cube and Rochade
with mostly Zoom effect on text objects.

btw, i am using Debian unstable.

i have added an image to a slide
now, i changed my mind (or the image was moved to some other folder on the disk)
and i want to change it. since it is now missing from the slide and all i can
see is the old filename and a path to a none existing image.
i right click it (since i want to change the filename)
and there is no action in the popup menu that can help me

i even looked at the Impress menu (while the image is selected)
and could not find a way to change the image

i had to delete it and choose a new image from the disk.

am i missing something here ?
or is it a UI bug.

but this is not a link.

i do not have tools -- links on the menu
are you referring to Impress ?

i do not have links anywhere.

i am referring to an Image element i added into a slide
not an Hyperlink to a website.

thank you all for your kind support
but, i think you are not understanding the issue.

i have an image element in the slide.

how can i change the image ?
(without deleting it)

it is not linked and it is not an Hyperlink.

i think it is a UI bug because it is not clear
how to have this task done.

i do not think it is an issue for the forums.

to remove the filter from the first row.
filter was gone :-)

i selected some cells (D2:D320) and right clicked the row F and pasted them...
the Calc application hangs and hug the cpu
after several minutes... i killed the process.

the cells had text data (no calculations). both source and destination

if i run the same operation on a small amount of cells it works fine.
(lets say... 40-80 cells more or less)

it happened 3 times on different occasions (different sheets, of course)
i can reproduce it. any time.

when i open an RTL sheet and hold the SHIFT key and then start to select some
cells (on my right) by clicking the RIGHT ARROW key... the selection goes left
and selects the cell to the left of the original cell. (as if the sheet is in
LTR mode)

changing (keyboard) navigation to logical or visual does not affect this issue.

navigation works fine when i am not selecting anything.

unable to see the main table in the imported document
maybe it has to do with hebrew text ? or rtl alignments ?

(i am using debian unstable with OO 3.1)

attached is the problematic document.

@hdu: it is an improvements to the current BiDi algorithm
(http://www.unicode.org/reports/tr9) and not a parallel algorithm. and it is
done in coordination with the current ICU people :-)

the correspondent i got was in hebrew and i guess it is not relevant here ;-)
but i am sure it is taking place in ICU forums (in english) as well.

i read the bidi algorithm (the old one) and found that the user can add a
special invisible character left-to-right mark just after the ) char in the
original example which will fix this issue (visually)
[ i am attaching a working example for this after this comment. ]

from the user's pov, it is found in Menu Insert formatting mark LTR
mark.

i guess not all users know this trick (feature) and expect the word processor to
understand them and their flow of writing text. as they speak or think that is
how it should flow and visually be represented.

i recently (last two months) got some correspondent about the new bidi
algorithm that is being drafted by the Israeli (and other probably) ISO which
will (probably) solve most of those issue and that the Israeli OO team (TK
Systems) will (probably) be involved in implementing.

so i close this issue since the current bidi algorithm is implemented just fine
and there is a workaround to solve this issue from the user's pov.

i agree that support for importing old documents and placing those RTL/LTR
invisible marks should work properly for old OOo documents and for imported
(from other formats) documents. but that is a different issue. and when we find
such document we should open an issue for it.

maybe i am doing something wrong, with the proper work-flow to make this change

i can not reproduce this issue anymore.

i have opened all the documents i had in the folder which included
the problematic presentation and i can not find a single presentation
that this issue occurs in :-)

two things that might help:
(for future reference)
+ it was originally a ppt presentation (MSO 2003)
+ i took of all the links to remote resources and embedded them
(menueditlinks...)

the Internet refresh property of all presentations is
set to do not refresh automatically
(and i know i did not play with that property)

i saved it to odt format and placed it on my desktop.
then i tried to select (the image so i can later manipulate it)

i am unable to click, double-click or right click to image to select it.
( i mean... the first upper image )

after some time...
i added a second image (from my local disk)
now, i am able to select it just fine.

and only after i select it i can click (select)
the first image. very strange behavior.

here is a link to the original docx document.
http://www.tikshuv.org.il/moodle/file.php/241/moddata/forum/527/2009/Doc3.docx

maybe it is a usability issue on my side, since i did not know of such a feature
or that ctrl-click could have solved this issue for me.

so...
if you think you should change the way OO behave regarding
selecting background images then this is an issue.
if not, please close this bug.
( i guess it is my responsibility to better know how to opperate OO )

after removing links to pictures (editlinks) it seems this issue was worked
around.

i guess the thumbnails were refreshed all the time while i was scrolling them
and it reset my scroll each time it was refreshed ? i guess ?
now every thing is fixed and there is nothing to refresh.

btw,
clicking the small scroll arrows at the bottom and upper sides of the scroll
back (with the mouse) would the list fine. also page-up and page-down worked
fine.

i have a presentation with 50+ slides.
i use the mouse wheel to scroll the thumbnail slides on the left
and after a few slides that scroll just fine...
the scrolling suddenly stops and jumps to the first slide
i can never scroll more then 5-8 slides no matter which slides i start scrolling
from.
scrolling with the keyboard works fine.
clicking the slides - one by one works fine too.

i am unable to scroll the cursor (using the keyboard) to the middle of a link
(in the text) or right click it to get to change it.

once i made a link, it seems lost.

if i want to change it i need to delete it and made a new one.

i expect that right clicking a link will have a properties menu entry of the
clicked object or edit this link's url menu entry.

i select some cells and make a graph out of them and then i try to edit the
graph object by clicking or double-clicking the lines or dots in the graph
object BUT...

i am unable to visually see the right places where i should click because the
graph is displayed as if it is an ltr object but when i click it it as acting as
if it is an rtl object and so i can not click where i visually pointing the
mouse at.

other then that... the entire graph object is filled with artifacts when i click
it, the objects inside of it move all the time and are not redrawn.
just try it and see what i mean.

from within a cell i want to duplicate, i drag the little (left side) select box
and select a range of cells that i wish to fill with the data from the original
cell.

it used to just fill it (previous oo versions, before 2.4) but now it opens a
dialog and i am unable to choose anything that will make it work.
see first attachment. (the cells are plain text format)

when i go to the edit menu and choose fill -- from top it works fine.
see second attachment.

i think it is a bug but maybe you improved the way i suppose to use the dialogs
and i just can not get it. sorry.

i use fedora 9 + oo 2.4.1-17 (hebrew ui)

i write some hebrew text (in rtl mode) and the switch to english, write a word
then a single space key and a left bracket , some text , right bracket , space
key, switch to hebrew and write some more hebrew text...

the right bracket is misplace as you can see in the attached image and original
odt files.

when i switch to ltr mode for the entire line all english text with brackets
seems visually correct, except the word order which is ok.

i expect to see the english text with the brackets display correctly in rtl mode
as it looks in the ltr mode (excluding the word order, of course :-)

Writer has the same issue. i guess it is the same layout engine.

on debian sid with OO 2.4.1

switching the entire text (paragraph) to ltr shows the hebrew text in correct
order. so i guess an rtl silent mark is missing before the hebrew text ?

i do not know if mirvine's attachment has anything to do with this issue.

i made a new attachment with one slide in which a title (text object) has a
mixed hebrew and english words with different fonts assigned to those words.

selecting each word and changing font family (UI's font combo-box) works fine.
same for individual change of font size.

BUT...
when i select all text (both words) and change font family... only the english
text (word) get affected. the hebrew text stays with the old font :-(

btw: changing the font size for both words changes the text size correctly for
both hebrew and english text :-)

i hear that their is a movement towards integrating the Writer's text engine in
all other OO components. is that going to happen in v3.0 ?
should we (people of rtl languages) report text engine issues to that component
?

i know allot of the issues we have in Calc and Impress regarding rtl bugs are
solved in Writer. are you going to reuse its text engine component in all other
components ? or mix every thing into a new text engine ?

(many questions, haa :-) i hope it's not to much OT ;-)

already with OO 2.3 (on fedora 8) this issue seems to be OK.

i have both David and Times New Roman so the document is displayed visually
correct. when David is set to 12pt and Times to 10pt. since they have different
height matrix sizes, this relation between them is good.

i partly agree with hennerdrewes:
in general, i think numbers should get their size from the characters around
them so they do not stand out or stand down in relation to CTL or Western fonts.

using Aharoni CLM for both CTL and Western fonts with the same size shows this
document correctly as well.

and i think the import if working just fine too :-)

using the same Aharoni CLM font for both CTL and Western fonts workaroud this
issue.

also using David 12pt for CTL text and Times New Roman 10pt for Western text
visually solves this issue.

in general, i think numbers should follow the size of the text entered previous
to them in the sentence. they should not be statically fixed to either CTL font
size or Western font size as defined in the Font dialog.

when fonts are missing (importing) and font substitution kicks in... this can
get complicated and very hard to assure that font sizes a visually correct all
the time.

change their sizes... after i am pleased with what i see in the font preview i
please Done and i get different visual sizes in the actual document.

see attached screen shoot.
(i know that numbers are treated as western characters when calculating their
font size)

when setting it to hebrew Aharoni CLM font (both CTL and western) i get the same
size on preview and on the actual document.

this is an issue indeed ! i can confirm it on OO 2.3 (fedora 8) and OO 2.4
(Debian sid).

it is quite a wide and complex issue since there are so many fonts with
different matrix sizes for width and height. not to mention the font
substitution that occurs when we do not have a font on our machine.

personally, i expect the font glyphs to be in the right height for CTL + numbers
and Western + numbers in the same font that i choose to use.

i do not want OO to switch font for Western when i start to type numbers after
some CTL letters that i already typed in.

and again i would like to mention that some glyph numbers in CTL fonts are
bigger then the hebrew letters and this is visually an issue for that font
alone. (this occur in Western fonts too)

when opening Writer or Impress (hebrew UI) i get empty boxes characters in
tabs labels that are not in focus. active tab get correct hebrew font displayed.
this happen in all dialogs that have tabs in them. both on Writer and Impress.
(i saw it on Calc too, but you have an issue report on that already
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87970 )

the entire interface is in hebrew and i am using fedora 8 with updated OO
2.3.0-6.14.fc8

i disabled and later enabled use system fonts preference with not help
system locale is en_US.UTF-8 (setting the he_IL.UTF-8 does not help)

this also happen inside all OOo dialogs' not-in-focus tabs !

only when i use Culmus hebrew fonts (Yehuda CLM) in GNOME's Application Fonts
and choose use system fonts in OOo the issue is solved.
but this is a workaround since it used to function properly for long time now
with Sans fonts - DejaVu Sans and others that have correct hebrew glyphs.

the localized hebrew version of OO 2.3.1 (from Tk systems - openoffice.org.il)
does not suffer from this issue :-) but version 2.4.0 in debian sid does have
it .

setting the GNOME Application Font to Yehuda CLM (Culmus hebrew font project)
and setting the OO to use system fonts, solve this issue.
(on Fedora 8 + OOo 2.3 , Debian Sid + OOo 2.4)

when i say solve i mean - workaround :-)

it should be working just fine with Sans or DejaVu Sans (and many other fonts)
that used to display those same text labels just fine in previous OO versions.

i can verify this issue on OOo 2.4.0 (debian sid) and on Fedora 8 with OO 2.3

it happens with MS true type fonts Miriam and Time New Roman and it does not
happen on any of the Culmus (hebrew fonts project) fonts (Miriam CLM and
others...)

changing the fonts in the document fix this issue.

i have checked what kaplan has suggested and...
the original presentation is already set as rtl when i check it inside OOo 2.3.1
hebrew localized.

when i open it in latest 2.4.0 (debian sid) or 2.3 (fedora 8) it is set to LTR
all over the text objects and the pages (slides).

i'm guessing that either hebrew OOo 2.3.1 is not saving the presentation
correctly or the OOo 2.4.0 is not reading it correctly.

i checked kpresent (kde office suite) and it opens the document the same as OOo
2.4.0 . so... maybe it's hebrew 2.3.1 OOo version that is not saving the
presentation correctly ?

please some one analyze the format/layout of the odp file so we are sure were
this issue is originated.

btw, does anyone know a good odf file structure viewer ?

[sw-issues] [Issue 88966] changing measurement units does not reflect in rulers

i am such a joker (in a bad way ;-) .

i read into the help some more and found out that the measurement units in the
General tab are used for general calculation in input fields inside various
dialogs across the OOo. while the View tab hold the values for the actual units
that are displayed in the main UI rulers.

so, maybe a more clear definition in the General tab can solve this issue ?
like measurement units for calculations or measurement units for input
fields ?

fixed with version 2.4.0 (debian sid)

when selecting A4 (for example) i get page size 297mm x 210mm page size as
defined by ISO 216 (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_216)

I am not sure in what way Apple is patching the OpenOffice.Org before they ship
it as NeoOffice. maybe you should report to them if this issue persists.

under Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org-Writer/General i change measurement unit from
inch to cm and it does not reflect in the rulers when i close the dialog.
(in Impress it works fine)

when i turn to Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org-Writer/View i get horizontal and
vertical measurement units in which changing the units reflect on the rulers.
i think it is a little bit confusing and maybe needs to be more clear in
definition or similar UI for Impress and Writer ?

what is the first one (in General) is used for ? is this a bug (or i just don't
understand the UI)

i was working on a presentation within the OOo 2.3.1 hebrew localized version of
Impress (i got it form the official http://www.openoffice.org.il). all the
slides and the text elements inside the presentation are rtl justified and are
displayed correctly when i am in that specific version. (running fedora core 8)

i open the same odp file in version 2.4.0 (debian sid) and with Fedora-8 own OOo
2.3.0 version and it was all justified to the left.

can you analyze the odp file and see if it was originally saved with some kind
of error ?

i am attaching the presentation.

this is a bug and NOT an ENHANCEMENT ! since when i drag a slide to reorder it
before or after some other slide it is very very difficult to guess how it would
show up in the new order. (try if you are brave :-)

(i just had 70 slide show presentation to rearrange it it was nearly
impossible.)

so please change Issue type to Defect :-)
