It works not on this platform. See attached file - can you see the text END OF
TEXT on page 2? I can not (only in MS WORD)..

If you import a MS WORD-created document containing text in a table (2 columns,
1 row) and the text exceed 1 page, swriter does not import it correctly and you
can see only the first page. The function allow table split across pages does
not function neither. In summary you can not read the document unless you do not
transfer the table into text (but by this way you lose the columns which is a
problem e. g. if the table contains 2 language version of the same text and you
need to compare them). This is a big problem because you can not edit such a
kind of a document!

This problem occur also in OOO DEV300m86.

See attached file (open it in MS WORD and in OOo)

Sometimes (can not determine on what this depends) MS WORD numbered paragraphs
(*.doc created in MS-W) are not imported correctly (neither in OOo Dev300m84).
Open attached file in MS WORD 2003 (displays correctly - 3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.2.1...)
and in OOo (3, 1.2, 1.3, 1.3.1..). This is a big problem when you receive MS
WORD document.

Hi, i really do not know if it is a bug but have spent hours to find an answer
on web without success.
I use on 2 computers the same version of Ooo (320m12). On one computer (A) i
also test beta version of Ooo (now dev300m73). On both computers there is the
same copy of the User profile (copied)- C:\Documents and
Settings\...\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user.
Now the problem: on one local machine (A) if I open a specific word document
containing macros and field, the field names are not showed (neither by using
OOo beta nor by using ortodox Ooo). On other machine (B) on the place where the
fields are there are rectangles (see attached picture). It seems to be
unpossible to make the rectangles not to be shown on computer B (they are also
printed what is the main problem). All settings (View, VBA, Load/Save) are
identical on the machines.
This problem occured after upgrading the last version of Ooo to regular 3.2.1
version..
Hope for an answer...

I do not think it is a Win-Font issue. After marked my issue (111535) as
duplicate of this one i tried to reinstall fonts on the other machine using the
fonts from the machine which display the input fields names correctly and the
problem persist. I think there must be some bug because on my machines if you
right click the same field on both OOo writers, the right menu is different -
see attached file - on one machine the field is not recognized as a FIELD (there
are no field/ fonts etc options) what is the main problem i think.

FINAL SOLUTION: I fixed the bug on my machines by DELETING ALL WIN XP FONTS (not
only mainly used such as TNR, Arial, Tahoma..) - to do this on XP you have to
log on in safe mode as administrator and deleted all installed fonts in Control
panel/fonts and re-install them from the other machine (note to remember the
path where do you copy the fonts because after removing of all fonts you will
not be able to read anything:))) After a complete re-installation of fonts from
the other machine, where the fields were displayed properly, the problem was
solved.

It would be great if the window fields/ cross-reference could remember its last
settings.
If i set some cross-reference (e.g. in point 12.1 to point 6.1 with format
Number (no context)) and i close the fields window, by reopening it the settings
are set to default (e.g. point 1.1 and format Page). This is really
uncomfortable because you have every time to start at 1.1 and change the format,
because you usually use the same type of the cross-reference (e. g. if use only
Number (no context)) in whole document. The other option is not to close the
fields window, but it is really big and its scale is not changeable.

It would be really helpful if the possibility of deleting multiple styles from
the Styles and formatting window (F3) could be possible. In all versions of OOo
you can delete (as I know) at the same time only one style (right click and
delete). If you get some document where a lot of unused styles are stored and
you wish to clean them up it is really a hard work...

If you try to copy (on the same computer) cells from scalc OOo3.1 (310m11) to
OOo 3.2 (DEV300m55) it fails - the cells are copied as some kind of bitmap
(picture). Also Copy special function does not work. I report this only to avoid

This malfunction is still present in OOo3.2.0 (DEV300m53). It is really not
helpful to change the format of the cells which are cut to default, mostly you
need to keep the attributes of the cells preserved. If there is compatibility
problem a Cut special function (like paste special) would be a solution.

if you want to re-save a password protected file without the previously set
password and you try it to do through saving the file with the same name (File -
save as) only by unchecking the mark Save with password OOo will not do it.
The old value of the password is still saved in the document. So if you need to
remove the password you have also to change the name of the file.

The same occur in Writer.

I can not agree. I tried this on several computers and the problem persist at
all of them. As ES wrote I tried to open a file, did nothing except
Tools-Update-Update All, waited for few seconds and tried to cut some text and
scroll down with the mouse wheel. Try this bigger file (attachment). It is
enough to scroll one page and wait. After 1 second you will be thrown back to
the line where you have cut the text (probably because the cursor is still on
this position). This means OOo does not remember that after cutting some part
of the text you have scrolled down. Instead if you scroll down after you were
thrown back, everything works fine.

By trying this it is necessary to start scrolling (it is enough to make 1-2
moves on the mouse wheel and wait) immediately after cutting the part of a text.
If you start to scroll after 1-2 seconds everything works fine...

The best way you can see it is if you have set Print Layout view and cut some
text on the 2-3 line up the bottom of the page.

If you cut some text and want to paste it somewhere else in the document and you
use wheel on the mouse, after some time (depends on complexity of the document)
you will be thrown back to the line from which you just cut the text.

To reproduce this issue:
1. open the attachment - test file,
2. move to page 4,
3. mark the blue text,
4. use ctrl+x and immediately scroll the mouse wheel down (but do not scroll
without a short break by scrolling).

After a half of a second OOo will throw you back to the original line. On this
attachment the delay is not very long, but if you edit some big files, the delay
could take also more then a second - if you scroll in this time the mouse wheel,
you can scroll more than 1-2 pages. It is very unpleasant when OOo throw you
back. The only possibility to avoid this is to wait for a second-two after you
copy/ cut the selected text.

You can reproduce this issue also (and the delay will be longer) on some other
big odt file, maybe with some cross-references + a lot of formatting).

In OOo sCalc this issue does not appear.

I just installed OOO 310m11 (Built: 9399) and the problem persist. I have got an
e-mail (probably a tester who don´t know how to use issue tracker) reporting he
has got the same problem on his laptop after installed 3.1.0 version. It would
be great if somebody could take a look at this issue, because this problem did
not occur in the 3.0.1 version and for everybody who is listening music (e.g.
through WinAMP) by using OOo it must be a little bit uncomfortable to switch to
another application to change the volume for example.

Password was created directly in Excel.

This occures only in some files (i can not specify the difference) - in a blank
xls file with password (created in excel) there is no problem.

If you open an ods file protected by password, in the field you enter password
the ENTER key does not function and you have to click on OK button with the
mouse. In 3.0.1 version it was possible to enter password also with ENTER key on
keyboard.

The other problem, if you want to re-save a password protected file without a
password and you try it to do through saving the file with the same name (File -
save as) only by unchecking the mark Save with password OOo will not do it.
The old value of the password is still saved in the document. So if you need to
remove the password you have also to change the name of the file.

The same problems occure in Writer.

See attached file (pass: 123456).

It would be very helpful if the Accept or Reject Changes - window would show
immediately the change (marked by the blue line) you mark with the mouse in the
main window without closing it.

Explanation: If you mark some changed text and turn the window on
(Edit-Changes-Accept or Reject..) you see in the small Accept...-window the
correct change marked by a blue line. But if you jump in the main file to
another tracked change the blue line in the small Accept or..-window does not
move. If you have a lot of changes and NEED TO jump between them (for accepting
or rejecting them) and want to see the blue line in the small window moving you
have always to close the small window and reopen it.

I noticed (since OOo 3.0.1 in all versions) that the player/sound-buttons
(inc./dec. volume, stop, play, mute) on multimedia keyboards do not function
under OOo. In all other programs there is no problem (and i think in OOo 2.4
there was also no problem because i did not notice this problem ever). Also
there is no problem with other multimedia buttons in OOo (e.g. mail, calculator,
my computer, sleep...) only with the player/sound buttons, who do not affect
what they should. I tried 2 different keyboard and also more players (mainly
winamp, but laso quick time player, windows media player). Increasing and
decreasing of sound and also muting the sound works for all players in all
programs except OOo.

I tried on 2 different (one KME, one Chicony). I do not know if for every, but i
think this is a new problem, because i use OOo for more than year and hear music
everytime and until 3.0.1 i did not notice this problem. The configuration of my
pc has not changed.

In OO Beta 3.2 (Dev300m41) the wrong written words are underline (by automatic
spell check) with a white line (pantile). This cause you do not see mistakes.
See attached file.
Maybe it is possible to change the color of the line (i did not find where), but
after installation the line should not be by default set as white.

I´m sorry, but the problem is not solved...or there is some problem with OO
download site... I´ve just uninstall my version of OO beta 3.0 and from the site
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/download-form.php downloaded and installed
OO.org-3.0.0.rc4 (after the installation, in the Help/about in OO the version
OOO300m9 is shown). And in this version the reopening of a calc file which is in
the same time used by another user on the LAN fails - this means i did not get
the messege, the file is in use! I checked it right now 2 times and it does not
work...I get the messege (and possibility to open it as red only file) only the
first time i open this document. After closing and reopening it, there is no
message.

Please set this problem as priority. I wrote this issue by testing 300m3, now i
test 300m9 and the problem with non working autorecovery still persist, what is
really sad - i´ve lost data for many times, cause OO beta 3 is not very stable.
Please check issue 94134 where I wrote a comment.

The same happens everytime Writer crash (my autorecovery is set to 5 minutes), I
use 3.0.0rc4 (after installing OO-help/about is show:300m9).

LOST OF DATA (and OO3.0 crash a lot of time, at this time it is much more
unstable as 2.4.2) IS A MAIN PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, it
makes hard to use and test beta version if the tester loose data every second
day.

Hi,
if there is a document somewhere on the LAN (e. g. LAN - hardisk) and one user
open it, if the second user open it also (while the first one has it still
open), OO make a notice showing, the document could be open only in read only
mode.
BUT if the second one close the read only document and reopen it, the
notification does not longer work although the first user has the document still
open.

This means after closing the document in read only mode, next time (everytime)
you open this document, you don´t get the notification from OO. OO opens it as
it would not be in the same time used by another user. So both work on document
in write mode and one of them will LOST THE DATA!

If a cell contains the SUM-function (example: cell A100 contains =SUM(A10:A99)
and you want to change the range to A1-A99 by using the mouse (e. g. clicking
the formula row and moving the blue rectangle of the range which appears after
doing this) Calc offers only the possibility to change the range in the lower
part of the blue rectangle (a small square appears in the lower part of the blue
rectangle-range). In the upper part only the possibillity of moving the range is
set (a blue hand appears). It would be great if a small square could appear also
in the upper right corner of the blue rectangle range, so you could stretch the
range also to upper cells (now you have to do it in 2 steps - by moving the
range up with the blue hand and than stretch the range down or manually by
editing the formula row).

AutoRecovery
doesn't use the auto-save that is saved to ..\Application

It would be great if OO could accept more changes in one step by marking
(highlighting) a part of text where changes are tracked and selecting the button
Accept or reject recorded changes - all changes in selected text would be
accepted either automatically by clicking the icon or by opening the Accept or
reject changes window where all changes form the selected text would be marked
so you need only click on Accept.

Hi cornouws!
Yes, i can confirm it - the box OOo file dialog (Tools|Options|OOo|General) was
checked, after unchecking it the problem was solved. My proposal is to set this
option default off because in my opinion a new user of OO will not be able to
fix this think... I´m sure I did not check this box manually.
Thanks

Hi, I have just installen OO Beta 3.0_2 (Build BEB300_m) and the problem
persist. In OO 2.4 there was no problem with opening the same files.

The files are attached.

I tried remove all the startup programs, but this has not fixed the problem. OO
starts (by opening the small blue window - Open Office Beta 3.0) but then
freeze. I can see in task manager 2x soffice.bin and 2x soffice.exe with no CPU
activity and some used memory. No other OO document can be opened until both
processes soffice.bin and soffice.exe are not stopped

If you let windows xp (SP2) open 2 Calc files throught StartUp folder and one
of the files is protected by a password, OO on my comp crash (freeze, you have
to shut it up through the Task manager). This will not happen if you open only
one Calc file through StartUp. On my comp I let StartUp also some other
aplications.

This issue is similar to issues 89375, 87078, but i did not find there are
solved...
If you copy some web pages to OO Writer, pictures are not shown, MS Word do
this correctly (see attached files).

Answers to questions in issue 89375:

- Which page do you copy (provide an URL)? for example:
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/europe_dayforecast.asp?day=2locationID=3843
- Which part of the page do you copy? the part with pictures
- Make sure you have set proxies in OOo (Tools - Options - Internet) if needed.
Don´t need
- Make sure you didn't turn Graphics off (Tools - Options - Writer - View): Is
not off

The content was copyied directly from Internet using Maxthon Browser. I
checked the url and tried to copy it also from Mozilla, pictures are set down
but the style of the page is wrong.
So it does not work neither from IE 7.0 (I use Maxthon Browser 2.1.2) nor from
Mozilla Firefox - see attached file.

Thanks for the answer but:
1. I think, OO should be able to copy web contents correctly from different
browsers (let´s say from the mostly used). I use often to copy some parts of
web to the text editor for example for printing them more efficienter. If MS
Word could do it (and in know it is simplier for it, cause Word and IE are
Microsoft products) this should not be impossible. If Word could access the
browsers cache...I´m not a programmer only user, but the copy function should
work much more better I think.
2. I tried to copy the part of the certain web from Mozilla by Paste special to
the Writer but there is no change.

This both means - it is not able to use OO Writer as a text editor for web
pages using copy function, therefor i still need MS Word. I think this is not a
good solution.

Proposal: by selecting some part of the text - draging the mouse using left
button could automatically highlight whole words, draging the mouse using left
button + ALT key could highlight accurate text as MS Word do it. This way
permit making of changes much more quickier (now you have to put the mouse
cursor exactly on the beggining of the word and end dragging exactly on the end
of the word).

Block selection BLK (STD-EXT-ADD-BLK on the bottom panel box) does not fix the
problem i have written about. EXT block selection does not mark the whole word
if you start dragging the mouse in the middle of the word. No one from those
options do it. Try drag text in MS word - when you stard in the middle of a
word an you continue to the right side, as soon as you drag the cursoir to the
end of the word, the whole word (on which you started dragging in its middle)
will be marked. In OO Writer 3.0 Beta any of STD-EXT-ADD-BLK selection do this.

If you save a OO Beta 3.0 file (odt) to *.doc the cross-reference numbered
paragraph can not be read in OO Writer if you re-open the *.doc file although
it was created in OO Writer. Ms Word read the cross-reference withou trouble.

Notes in OO 3.0 are shown beside the text which is good. But there is still a
wantage - it is not possible to attach a note to selected text. Notes are
always put as a point (sign) in the text. Notes are often use to explain a part
of a sentense therefor it would be very useful if it would be possible for the
note to mark the selected text the note is concerning.

What I mean:
In a sentence I want to walk not alone but together with you. I want put a
note concerning together with you. MS Word do it by putting parenthesis on
both sides of selectet text.

See attachements.

If you want to copy a text from a web site into Writer there are 2 defects:
1. Paste command last sometimes a lot of time (3-6 sec.)
2. The text is putted into writer as a table - i think this is good in scalc
but not in writer - you need mostly use the text as a simple text - changing it
into simple text costs time.

If copying of text into a table in writer is correct and you want writer do it
so, i suggest adding a small task by copying - asking: want you past the text
from clipboard as a table or as simple text - this would be very useful.

See also attachement.

yes this is what I ment.

Regarding Table.Convert.Table to text - the problem is you need to do it twice
and then also delete some lines (as shown in attachement), but at this time
Paste Special command is enought.

If you mark text using CTRL+SHIFT+Right Arrow because you want underline
selected text, Writer underline also the last space behind the last word of the
selected text which is wrong i think. The last space should not be underline
(MS Word do it correctly). See example in attachement.

If you want to allign some text with tab-button, OO Writer could differentiate
the using of tab button in such a case as MS Word do. See example.

If you copy some text from the writer to scalc in some cases it is not possible
to change the font tyoe of the text by changing the font type through Format -
Cells - Font (or directly through the font icon on the toolbar) although the
font type appear as changed, it is not. If you want to change the font of the
text in such a cell, you have to go directly into edit menu of the cell (F2),
highligh the whole text and then change the font. This process is not
effective, i think if you change the font type directly on the cell through the
icon Font (on the toolbar) or through the Format - Cells - Font, the text
should be changed to the desired font.

Another problem with Save as command - if you open a file on another computer
(through the lan-network), if you go up in the folders tree you can only rich
as the uppest level the other computer - it is not possible to change the
destination to your own computer.

also this problem could be fixed by adding the address bar.

When you use the Save as command in OO 3.0 beta, the hidden folders are not
shown although you have marked in windows xp (Folder options/View) that hidden
files and folders have to be shown.

This is a big problem for example in the situation, you have some folders that
are hidden for not showing them through the net to other computers, but you
want to see them. In this case it is not possible to save the file in this
hidden folder because the folder is not shown in the Save as directories-window.

When customizing toolbars-commands (View-Toolbars-Customize-Toolbars-Add
Commands) it would be very useful add a new menu in Add Commands window - All
Commands. For new users of OO it is sometime hard to find a command in a
certain sub-menu (for example Record changes). I think a new Category All
commands which would contain all commands of OO sorted by names would be very
useful for users for finding commands much more quicklier.

when customizing keyboard (View-toolbars-custimeze-keybord) the explication
yellow box appears all the time while using the mouse-pointer for changing
Category (I think after left-click oif the mouse should the yellow box disapear
because it is not possible to read the values in the field Function because the
yellow box cover the Functions-list).

The yellow explication box should disappear after moving the mouse...

Hi,
I try 3.0 Beta. The problem with comparation of documents still remain. OO
compare documents in a very heavy way - when only small changes are made
(between 2 documents), Writer track as a change a whole paragraph also in the
case only one word was changed in this paragraph. This makes a big disadvantage
(which remains from OO 2.3 and 2.4) against MS Word.
