I discovered a ClearCase patch (clearcase_p2003.06.00-16) that I am waiting on
our IT guys to install to the ClearCase release area (they need to do this
before I can try it -- just how the Rational installation works).

Here is a description of one of the bugs fixed by the patch:

Bug RATLC00607193 Description

%severity Sv3
%bug_desc_begin
Fixes a problem with ClearCase on Linux systems. Processes are now able to
create and delete unix domain sockets outside a VOB while in a view context,
and clients/servers can communicate whether or not they are both in the same
or any view context.

Ran the strace command using:

strace -f -e trace=file -o trace-only-file-calls soffice

The first upload of the strace log didn't complete within my browser, hence the
two
attachments.

Have run with snapshot as requested. strace output to follow.

I do not know what else to tell you about the clearcase views or the MVFS
filesystem. I only use clearcase -- I'm not familiar with its internals. If
you have specific questions, I may be able to track down answers for you.

For what it's worth, one bit of info I can tell you is the mvfs filesystem is
implemented with a kernel module (mvfs and vnode). One of these (mvfs, or
vnode) is built during the installation of clearcase.

Here is the output of lsmod:

Prior to hitting Ctrl-C to terminate soffice, a tail on soffice.log produced
the
output below. Notice the last line: wait4(-1,. It seems strace didn't
show
all the arguements to the wait4 call, only the first. I waited tens of seconds
before hitting Ctrl-C.

I am not aware of any trial versions of ClearCase software. I had a look at the
rational web-site and found nothing for ClearCase. I've attached an strace log
when attempting to start open office in a clearcase view. At the end of the
file, it is just repeating the same thing multiple times (though this same
thing results in many lines of output to the strace log).
