I do also understand that implementing this feature is more complicated than many of us think it is but it would be helpful if it were eventually decided a) whether to implement this feature or not b) a clear roadmap for when it will be implemented if this is the plan If that were decided upon everyone would know where they were - those of us who want the feature would either wait for the version that will have it, accept Writer as it is or decide to stick with it nonetheless. It would also help making this thread more useful - currently it is dormant for a couple of months then someone asks for this feature, there is a short discussion and nothing happens until the next post asking for this feature. Even if the outcome were wontfix it would be helpful because then we at least know where we are! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It might take some time to reproduce the bug, sometimes it takes many hours of editing the text before it shows up, sometimes it is only minutes. I still have the problem with OOo 2.0.2, but it seems that it happens much less then with previous versions. This could, however, also be caused by changes in the document since I reported the bug. I use Windows XP (SP2) and, occasionally, Linux, where I had the same problem with earlier versions of OOo, but I habe not confirmed if this is still the case with OOo 2.0.2 for Linux, since I am currently forced to work in a Windows only environment. Unfortunately I cannot send you the document at the moment since I am not allowed to do that, although that will probably change during the next months. You should, however, be able to reproduce the bug with the changed document, but as I said it might take some time to do so. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It won't happen every day, but it definitely does happen when you spend some time editing the document (might take a few hours). I can definitely reproduce the issue on several different computers. But I had a investigated the screenshot once again. There you have a situation, where the next footnote text and its anchor in the text won't be positioned on the same page. This is not allowed will be prevented by such an automatic page break. I know that footnote anchor and text have to be on the same page, but I can assure you that it is not the issue here. Why, if this was the case, would the strange page break dissapear as soon as you insert a few empty paragraphs and delete them afterwards? Plus, if you look closely, you will find that all the text on the second page of the screenshot would fit on the first page - there are no footnote anchors on the second page... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It may not have crashed your OOo or your machine (in fact it never crashed my machine but it did crash OOo two times), but I am not sure if this is just a performance issue. It probably is not much of a risk of data loss, but it makes formatting such large documents more or less impossible. If you have to wait for nearly 6 minutes on a - for normal office work - quite powerful machine such as a PIV 2.8 GHz (or for 14 minutes on a PIII 1.2 GHz) just to see how a decrease in font size affects your document, you can't use OOo for formatting such texts. I have to admit that there are probably not too many users who will need such large documents, but if you do, OOo is simply unusable. Hopefully I do not come across as angry, but in my case this bug forces me to switch to another programme, which is why I am not too happy to see this called just a performance issue... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54640 Issue #:|54640 Summary:|Repagination of large documents takes minutes and/or |crashes OOo Component:|Word processor Version:|OOO 2.0 Beta2 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|formatting Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|postmorbid --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Sep 15 02:55:45 -0700 2005 --- In a larger document (350+ pages, 1000+ footnotes), start editing the text somewhere in the first half. If, for instance, you delete about a page of text and the document ist 400 pages long, the status bar should simply show you 399 pages. Instead the page number increases to 420, 440, 460 and so on before suddenly switching to 399 pages. While this is in process, performance of OOo noticeably decreases (at least on slower systems (PIII 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM)) and the text is flashing. You can avoid this behavhiour by using Update all, which works much faster than the background paginiation (though it is also quite annoying to having to do that). Updating the pagination of large documents, however, crashes OOo (slower CPU) or takes minutes (faster CPU). To reproduce: - take a large document (300+ pages, 1000+ footnotes, as attached) - decrease the font size for the main text - repaginate the text with update all (works reasonably fast, a few seconds) - now increase the font size to normal and do a repagination This completely knocks out my PIII 1.2 GHz, 100 CPU load and nothing more happening until a kill OOo (had it running for 6+ mins); on a faster CPU (2.8 GHz PIV) the last repagination takes about 5 mins 30 seconds (for the attached document). This makes editing / layouting such documents more or less impossible. This seems to be a general problem which I encountered on several PCs with several versions of OOo (1.5, 1.4, 2.0 beta etc.) with several different documents. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Now delete the lines you have just added. Page number should decrease by 1, but it doesn't since there appear pagebreaks between paragraphs which were not there before the repagination after you entered new text. In my case, these mysterious pagebreaks always appear at the same places, like a predetermined breaking point: This happens when a paragraph ends with a different style then the next one (for instance a paragraph ending with a footnote or a brake between a default paragraph and one with other style, maybe for a quotation). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 44677] Content of Status Bar disappears while editing text
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=44677 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 15 15:27:31 -0800 2005 --- I'd love to confirm it or give you extra details, but I don't know what you'd need. It still happens whenever I use OO - and I did a clean install (installing WinXP and OO on a fresh new partition, almost no extra software etc.)... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 44677] Content of Status Bar disappears while editining text
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=44677 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Mar 10 04:24:37 -0800 2005 --- Additional comment: After starting to work with Calc it seems to me that the same is happening here as well. Plus the text in the status bar in Writer now disappears much more frequently. I can make it appear again by turning status bar view on and off. However, if I just ignore it the text shows again after some time. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 44677] New - Content of Status Bar disappears while editining text
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=44677 Issue #:|44677 Summary:|Content of Status Bar disappears while editining text Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|postmorbid --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Mar 9 22:26:38 -0800 2005 --- The content of the Status Bar occasionally disappears while editing text. By content I mean infos like page count, page style and so on, by occasionally I mean that a) I can't connect it to any special action - I am working on the text, I look down and it is gone - b) sometimes it takes five minutes, sometimes ten, sometimes more. This, however, happens with every file I have been working so far and it always happens, as long as I work longer then a few minutes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
