A table that has been created with OO.org-2.3.1 can not be read with
OO.org-2.3.0
A document that shows this phenomenon can be obtained from this url:
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/51526/ooo-prob-with-table.tar.bz2

The message that OO.org shows, when opening the document is:
Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice.org crashed. All the files you were
working on will be saved. The next time OO.org is launched, your files will be
recovered automatically.

PS: please remove the word unexpected from that message. Even when I expected
the error OO.org crashed!

Of course one could update to a newer version of OO.org (which is not too
difficult), but the document containing the table is actually a subdocument
of a master document. As the master document contains many (over 200
subdocuments) that are maintained by many people, it is not so trivial to
have all people use the latest greatest OO.org.
Besides that a minor update 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 should not result in such a major
functionality update
BTW: the master document crashed too

Anyway this bug is also opened to make others aware of this problem.

When inserting rows from last row in the table in the attached document, the
ontained result is different compared to inserting rows from the preceeding
rows.

When inserting rows from the last row, additional lines are inserted in the
first column. While interting rows from the preceeding row(s), no additional
lines are inserted in the first column.

The table has been created with the OO.org table wizard, by configuring the
required number of columns and rows. After that cells have been merged to
obtain the desired table layout (see attached document).

Playing around with inserting and deleting rows from row number 1 or 2, does
not help to get a desired effect from the last row

Hmm, I just saw that this document has more rows ;)
The problem is seen when inserting rows from:
1) Steps number 16
and
2) Expected result step number 20

When doing the same command in other steps the result is different.

The command to be performed is:
- Right click in row - row - insert - Amount: 3 (check: after) - ok

In the attached combination of master - and sub documents, the last
part of the table in the master document is not shown correctly. The line
on the left side of the first column next to the steps 18, 19, and 20 are
missing (on the bottom of the column as well).

The table has been created with the OO.org table wizard, by configuring the
required number of columns and rows. After that cells have been merged to
obtain the desired table layout (see attached odt document).

When some rows are deleted the problem disappears. When enough text is removed
from the some cells, so the last rows ends on the previous page (the number of
cells remains the same), the problem seems to be gone as well.

It is unfortenately very hard to predict when the problem happens.
Hopefully the attached document combo, reveals what's wrong.

rbos-od

I don't think I encountered a bug, it seems to work as designed. I though it
does
not work as it is not intuitive what is currently happening.

I changed a setting via:
Styles and Formatting (F11) - Heading 1 (modify)
The Paragraph Style: Heading 1 pops up - in the tab numbering Numbering
style
is blank. Change change Numbering Style to none.
This removes the number in front of the Heading 1 texts.

Now to get this back one has to go to tools - outline numbering - numbering -
Change paragraph style from none to Heading 1. While one would expect to be
able to change this via the Styles and Formatting (F11) - Heading 1 (modify)
The Paragraph Style: Heading 1 widget.

For some reason the paragraph style - numering style has been changed from
blank to none, which results in no numbering. It is however not possible
at the moment to change the numbering style back to blank.

Is there a possible workaround, to set the numbering style back to blank?

@es and @os: the script that I used to remove the modify tag (from the sub doc)
becomes rather complex, as I now have to take into account sub documents
in different directories, as well as external images in the master document
and external images in sub documents. Hence, it would be nice to know whether
the solution for this bug (or is it a feature) can be made part of a upcoming
OO.org release.

More people start to use ODM documents over here and they want to give the
credit to the people that wrote the sub documents as such the master document
should not overwrite the Author information (among others) in a sub document.

With the solution for this present, people will appreciate OO.org even more :))

To give an idea of how important this feature is for the OO.org community
have a look at this url:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/buglist.cgi?resort=1issue_type=FEATURE;component=Word%20processor;issue_status=UNCONFIRMED;issue_status=NEW;issue_status=STARTED;issue_status=REOPENED;issue_status=RESOLVED;issue_status=VERIFIED;email1=;emailtype1=exact;emailassigned_to1=1;email2=;emailtype2=exact;emailreporter2=1;issueidtype=include;issue_id=;changedin=;votes=50;chfieldfrom=;chfieldto=;chfieldvalue=;short_desc=;short_desc_type=allwords;long_desc=;long_desc_type=allwords;issue_file_loc=;issue_file_loc_type=fulltext;status_whiteboard=;status_whiteboard_type=fulltext;keywords=;keywords_type=anytokens;field0-0-0=noop;type0-0-0=noop;value0-0-0=;newqueryname=;Submit%20query=Submit%20queryorder=issues.votes%20desc%2C%20issues.priority%2C%20issues.issue_type

How many legislators are going to back ODF mandates when all MS has to do is
say You can't write your legislation using ODF?

A remark like this does not help to solve this bug (probably).

Anyway, what is holding them back to use ODF? If it is this (cross referencing
headings); in case of OO.org they can use a macro:

To reproduce the problem, use the attached document called test.odm

- Check the precondition:
  # unzip -p test.odm content.xml | grep text:alphabetical-index-source
- Count the number of 5f_ occurences
- Open this document
- Goto the navigator (F5)
- In the navigator use the context mouse button, to click on the term
alphabetical Index, in the resulting pop up window click select
  update indexes
- Save the document
- Check the content.xml file with:
  # unzip -p test.odm content.xml | grep text:alphabetical-index-source
- Count the number of 5f_ occurences. There are now many more 5f's

Re-opening the bug report. Of course the blank page is a blank page, and that
is
not what this bug report is about. The problem is about the insertion of a
blank page instead of inheriting the page style from the preceding page(s).

BTW the solutions that you proposed are not useful, as they do not result in
the expected behaviour, being that a new chapter should always start on the
right (as enforced by the page characteristic 'right only').

Perhaps this is actually an enhancement request and as such the issue type
should be set to enhancement?

I'll attach a slighty modified version of the document, that shows what is
expected.

This document shows what the expected result. It is the same as the document
with the name insert_page_prob.odt, but with a manually inserted page break.
This manually inserted page break inherits the page style. That is what should
happen with a 'right only' page style as well

 Ok! ;)

Pfff, fortenately you accept the report. I'm glad you did!

But saying blank I was meaning real blank, exactly without any
 inherentence
of a style because the page has no content at all (no page umber, watermark or
 chapter name).

I just had a look at different real books and documentation which always
 start
a new chapter at the right page and the blank page has nothing on it (no
header...).

I agree it's somhow surprising when working on a computer BUT it seems to be
 the
correct way to display blank pages (with NOTHING on them) in a printed
 document/book.

That might, and I could live with it as well, untill customers started to
ask questions or made remarks about the totally blank/empty page. After that
I opened this bug report.

 Nonetheless, forwarding as enhancement.

Looking forward to have the enhancement around. I hope it can be impemented.
Thanks for the support!

Hi OD, thank you for clarification. I understand that it is hard to predict
when things will be available. I saw that OO.org-2.4 is expected to be
available in September this year (2007). Does that mean that OO.org-2.0 won't
be available for the coming (let's say) 12 months or so?
BTW I could not find an expected release date when the spec for ODF-1.2. Is
this
known already?

In a master document I have set that Heading 1 insert a page break. This works
almost nicely. The Heading 1 style inserts a page break with a new style that
has the characteristic that it always starts on the right page (paragraph style
window - text flow:
[x] insert type [page] position [before]
[x] with page style [new chapter] page number [0])

The New Chapter style has only right page set. This works fine when a
preceding
chapter ends on a right page, an empty page is inserted and the new chapter
starts on the right page as desired. The problem is with the empty inserted
page. The pages preceding the empty page have a header, footer and background
watermark text that are not printed on the empty page. It seems that the
inserted page does not have a style attached to it. The workaround that is now
used is to insert a manual page break so there is no need for OO.org to insert
an additional page. But this is really a workaround not as how one would expect
this feature to work.

See for a discussion about this at the openoffice-users emaillist. This

the beginnin of the (restarted discussion).

According to note date Oct 5 16:36:16 + 2006 the target for this
feature/bug is OO.org-2.2 (New target for this feature is now OOo 2.2!)

As OO.org-2.2 has been released, it seems this functionality did not make it
into 2.2. Is there an idea when this important functionality will be available
in OO.org?

When I unpack my ODT document there is a very, very long line containing ove
24000 characters. The value is _5f and it is repeated many many times.
I assume that this is wrong.

This is in the content.xml file and the tag
  text:alphabetical-index-source,

Below a detailed copy of the offending line:
tmp grep -R Main_5f * | sed 's/\(Main\).*_\(entry\)/\1...\2/'
content.xml:text:alphabetical-index-source
text:main-entry-style-name=Main...entry text:sort-algorithm=alphanumeric
fo:language=nl fo:country=NL

The value Main...entry is shortened by me and looks actually something like:
text:main-entry-style-name=Main_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f_5f
etc etc 8000x times!

The only other file with 5f in it, is styles.xml:
styles.xml: style:style style:name=Table_5f_text
style:display-name=Table_text style:family=paragraph
style:parent-style-name=Standard style:master-page-name=

A similar bug is available at:
Look at http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=56518 but this one
is closed and I have still the issue.

The documents are mostly editted on MS XP with OOorg-2.2 Document is created
from scratch. The document is a master document (.odm).

I can't agree with the 'resolved/closed'' status. Issue 56518 was closed at
27 Oct 2005. That's actually years before I started to create my
documents. If #56518 really solved the _5f problem, I would expect that my
documents won't show the _5f_5f problem. I followed this logic, when opening
this issue.

I know how to repair the document(s), as that is explained in #56518 and
because I do similar operations on my documents throughout he day. Because
of this flexibility I use ODT and is the reason I discovered the _5f_5f
line.

Please, explain how this problem is fixed while it occured a long time
after #56518 has been resolved and closed.

The problem still exists and it is probably only valid for master documents.

The problem can be easily reproduced:

=== Before repair ===
text:alphabetical-index-source
text:main-entry-style-name=Main_5f_5f_5f_entry
text:sort-algorithm=alphanumeric fo:language=nl fo:country=NL
updating: content.xml (deflated 90%)
=== After repair ===
text:alphabetical-index-source text:main-entry-style-name=Main_5f_entry
text:sort-algorithm=alphanumeric fo:language=nl fo:country=NL
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/svn/svn oowriter test.odm
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/svn/svn ./rm_5f
=== Before repair ===
text:alphabetical-index-source
text:main-entry-style-name=Main_5f_5f_5f_entry
text:sort-algorithm=alphanumeric fo:language=nl fo:country=NL
updating: content.xml (deflated 90%)
=== After repair ===
text:alphabetical-index-source text:main-entry-style-name=Main_5f_entry
text:sort-algorithm=alphanumeric fo:language=nl fo:country=NL

The rm_5f script contains:
 cat rm_5f
unzip -p test.odm content.xml content.xml

echo === Before repair ===
grep main-entry-style-name= content.xml

sed -i 's/main-entry-style-name=\Main.*_entry\

zip test.odm content.xml

echo === After repair ===
unzip -p test.odm content.xml |
  grep main-entry-style-name=

Would it be possible to make 'compare documents' work for Master documents?

Master documents are just like regular text documents (.odt), but with the
ability to pull in sub documents (.odt files).

The text in master documents can change, and it would be very good to have
the possibility to see what changed.

Work around: set the mdified field as fixed in the sub document.

That does not work as the next time someone modifies the (sub) document the
modify information is _not_ updated as it is set to fixed (at least I assume
that the modify information is not updated). This workaround does therefor
not work. The only workaround is, to process the sub document before it is
read in by the master document

Perhaps it is possible to remove the tags that refer to the modification
settings (like text:modification-date.* and text:creator) upon reading
in the sub document. The current clumsy workaround I have now is to process
all the sub documents and have those tags removed from the (a copy of) sub
document.

Would it possible to have bug fixed in OOorg-2.2?

kpalagin: I'm very much aware that all bugs are equal. I respect that, hence
I did not not raise the priority of this one and I asked for some attention
for this bug in the comment field and not via a priority setting.

The compelling reason why this is an important for me (actually us) is, that
we based our software test process on the modification date of an individual
test. An individual test is stored as a document and this makes it a sub
document of a master document. We want to know what test version is used,
during testing so during testing the test (sub document) the test modification
date is recorded (written down). The test version = the modification date.
Now when the same test is re-used later it is possible to determine whether
the test has been updated. This can clarify changes in test results...

As I want other people in this (MS indoctrinated) company to use the same
process, it should be trivial to load the correctt sub documents into the
master document. With the current bug this is not trivial at all. One has to
process the individual tests and have the right tags removed from the
tests. One has to install e.g. cygwin for this, or has to ship the tests
to another system and have the processing done over there

With the bug solved, it is just a matter of loading the master document.
AFAIK the competition does not have this functionality, if is has this
functionality it's in an almost broken state ;)

In short to be able to sell our current testplan concept to others in an
MS oriented shop it would be very supportive to have this bug fixed, I hope
that this is compelling enough!

Table in subdocument pulled in by a master document:

On table with mouse, use context mouse button - table properties.
Check for example repeat table header on next page.
This seems to be accepted, but it isn't! As the table is part of a
sub document. Sub documents are most of the times readonly and as such
the table properties can not be changed.

The prove of the pudding is that the text inside the table can not be
changed. At least oowriter tells me via a warning/error that the text is
readonly

This afternoon I actually discovered why I had problems with this at all:
- Even knowing now, how to get text inside a frame (with ESC, enter, in and
outside clicking frame, etc) I was just not able to get text inside the frame
in a certain document. It's the same document I worked yesterday, that
resulted in this bug report. It's an existing .odm document.

Actually the page that should have the frame is the frontpage, which already
contains 3 pictures. Perhaps they are in the way of the new (text) frame?
I believe without this problem, I should have been able to get text inside the
frame.. Now is this not being able at all to get some text in a frame a
(new) bug. I don't have an example document, and as long as I don't have
that, I won't create a bug report.

I had a problem with inserting text into a newly created frame. I asked
how to do it on the users@openoffice.org email list how to do it. Here is
the transcript:

From the users@openoffice.org email list:
I want to use a frame to center text on the very middle of a page. I
performed: Insert - Frame, in the resulting frame I want to put some text,
but this is not possible. Is there a special reason that this is not
possible, should I enable something to allow text in the frame? This is
with
 OO.org writer-2.1 on MS XP.

The trick is: click beside the frame and then inside the frame.
Maybe this is worth a request for enhancement, so that the focus is
directly inside a frame when is is created?

NB When a frame (or graphic, or object) is selected and you press ESC,
the selection is ended and the cursor goes to the text beside it.

It would be more intuitive when the frame would allow editing right away.

I don't agree with the solution and worksforme mark.

I'm a rather experienced computer user, and I don't care much what application
to use, as most of them do what I expect them to do. In this case, this
wasn't the case. It is not intuitive to start typing with enter in a
frame... It should be sufficient to start with a character to get frame
focus.

Just checked what oowriter does after having booted the system. It still
does not open the document...

BTW: I use konqueror as webbrowser. This browser is capable of using the
protocol webdav, like: webdav://localhost/webdav
This than shows the webdav directory as a real directory, where files
can be created, renamed, etc and folders can be made.
Firefox can be used with the http protocol. The same protocol is used by
oowriter.

I experimented a bit with oowriter in combination with webdav and it is not
without problems :(

The very first time a document is opened (after the system has been booted),
usinga webdav repository the document is opened succesfully. Subsequent
request to open the document are not honered :( Oowriter flash is shown,
but the editor not.

This is on an openSUSE-10.2 system using oowriter-2.1
The webdav repository is constructed with apache as described at:
http://en.opensuse.org/Webdav

The same setup has been tried on another system (and network) with the same
results. Not only that, I tried it with oowriter on MS XP and that was even
worse :( Trying to open the webdav directory in MS' file explorer did not
work.

So at least in openSUSE-10.2 oowriter opens the document the very first time,
(after enquering for the webdav login and password). The subsequent requests
fail. Don't remember what happens with the save action, have to reboot to
find out...

I than mounted the webdav repository with wdfs, in this case oowriter opens
the document succesfully. But saving the document results in a save
error and the wbfs mount is broken (it needs to be unmounted and mounted
again, to be usefull).

The prove of the pudding: everything described above works flawlessly with
kword...

I'm really looking forward to see webdav working smoothly in oowriter!

I hope you don't mind asking me the following:

what is the status of this issue? It seems about to me finished, at least
that is what I conclude from the commands:

string review done. Coming via mail. Returning issue to you for reassigning for
implementation because it is not a plain string review issue and I don't want it
to get lost/untracked

Last update concerning code seem around sep 2005. Is there any possibility
to have this enhancement in OO.org-2.2 or 2.3?

- Open attached document
- With the cursor on the table, use right mouse button (RMB) and select table
- Unselect : allow row to break across pages and columns
  click OK

It looks like nothing is happening, but the 2nd page of document is gone.

- Save the document (^s) and quite the document
- Open the document, all is fine now. Second part of the table is now located
on the second page as expected.

The bug is that the document needs to be saved, quit and re-opened to obtain
the right view of document. It should not be necessarry to quite the
wordprocessor.

A table is not finished correctly in a master document with footers when the
table just fits on a page in a sub document (without footers). A part of the
table is hidden behind the footer. Hopefully the attached master document and
sub document shows the issue clearly.

- Open the master document
- Say yes to update links
- Go to page 4 and discover that step 15 is missing (14 is only shown partly).

The same table is shown correctly in the sub document...
When the header and the footer are switch off, the table is shown correctly.

I run into a very similar problem. I insert some (sub)documents into my
master document and after insertion the 1st subdocument becomes the last one!
Of course I checked the order in which the subdocuments are selected and
they are in the right (alphabetic) order.

The documents are sorted alphabetically, and are all called very similar like:
bf1030, bf1034, bf1035 and bf1039. After insertion the order is:
bf1034, bf1035, bf103 and bf1030.
I hope this information helps to find the root cause of the problem.

I'm editing a master document with many subdocuments. As such the navigator
(F5)
is a very long list. After a text is inserted via one of subdocuments located
close to the bottom of the long list in the navigator, the cursor jumps to
the top of the list. This is rather uncomfortable is the next action for me
is again at the bottom of the such. As such after each (text) insert action
I have to scroll down to the bottom of the list. It looks natural to me that
the cursor remains at the position where the action occured.

There is a problem with rotated text in ooimpress when the later is in
presentation mode (F5)! See attached example document.

It happens on kubuntu with OO 2.0.4 but not on my SuSE with OO 2.0.0.

The problem can also be reproduced in OO by creating a text object and then
using Format-Position and Size-Rotation and setting Angle to 180. Press F5
and the problem shows. So it is definitely a OO bug.

(problem has been at kde first: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138513)
