[sc-issues] [Issue 5930] Engineering Notation

The dev's are clearly too busy to deal with this feature request so it's likely only going to be fixed if we do the following: 1) split up the issue into two issues as previously suggested 2) somebody take on this issue by becoming a dev. Any takers? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. WE have to resort to using OO.org 2.4 as it still crashes for our daily workflow. I followed the instructions I wrote exactly again and the problem persists. When "closing" OO.org one has to close the quickstarter as well. Also, not open using the dialogs. The problem shows up when the contents of a linked graphic emf object in a multi-page document are changed (and we have not selected "Edit->Links" then "update") and OO.org Draw opens it. I just wish I could get this reproduced by someone outside our company because it really is annoying to have to go through the "recovery" dialogs at least 2 times. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=98251 Issue #|98251 Summary|Draw Crashes on changing linked drawing Component|Drawing Version|OOo 3.0 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|programming Assigned to|graphicsneedsconfirm Reported by|swingkyd --- Additional comments from swing...@openoffice.org Mon Jan 19 17:30:46 + 2009 --- Difficult to describe crash but it is consistent always. Reproducible: Always! A drawing document seems to need to be set up with at least 2 drawpages and 1 extra layer. (I have attached a zip file with everything needed to reproduce the behaviour) 1) description: Document contains 2 pages with 4 linked EMF files found in sub-directory named "tst". Each page has 2 linked emf files on the added layer. All objects are named. 2) I've created a macro which re-assigns the EMF files using the API graphicURL property type (for convenience). Run the top macro called "resetLinksOnDrawPage" in Module1 and select 2 files, one with "_SA_" in it and one without. It shouldn't matter which one. After running the macro, the linked files will be re-assigned to the files you have now selected. (If you don't select files like this it should still re-assign at least one of the graphic files and still crash) 3) Save the document 4) Close OO.org 3 5) Reopen file... will get a recoverable crash of the entire OO.org office suite and any open files. Note: I encounter this bug daily with what I do for work so having OO.org crash every day and with my colleagues is not going over well! Please note, that converting this file to a template in a state where it will crash causes OO.org to repeatedly crash every time I open the child of the template or even worse, when I try to recover the documents with the template open for editing, the child gets automatically created instead of opening the template for editing which causes a perpetual crash. This is most annoying! Note: the bug only happens when there is more than 1 drawpage. If you need any more assistance in reproducing the crash, first have a look at the macros in the odg file and try to run the cloadLibraries macro to get "Tools" to load. If that doesn't help, I'll post more instructions. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The end result is there is no way to programmatically handle styles in OO.org 3.0. I don't know when this problem creeped in because back in the 1.4 days, Danny created code that used it with success. More on the error follows: Using the StyleFamily "graphics" exports the following interfaces: com.sun.star.container.XElementAccess com.sun.star.container.XIndexAccess com.sun.star.container.XNameAccess com.sun.star.container.XNameContainer com.sun.star.container.XNamed com.sun.star.container.XNameReplace However, XNameReplace, XNameContainer methods which attempt to add, modify etc. just DO NOT WORK. One can access the Style using methods: getByName getByIndex but the following methods are not found at runtime: replaceByName( [in] string aName, [in] any aElement ) insertByName( [in] string aName, [in] any aElement ) Here is some sample code which should cause some headaches: oDoc = thisComponent ' open a draw document and run this as a sub oStyleFamilies = oDoc.styleFamilies oShapeStyles = oStyleFamilies.getByName("graphics") oStyle = oShapeStyles.getByIndex(0) '<- larger is fine if you have it ' Xray OStyle '<-- will definitely crash. 'oStyle = oShapeStyles.getByName("cg") '<- use the API to make style cg ' put a stop on the code 2 lines up and watch oStyle. Inspect it... it crashes ' the following code does not work as per section 9.6.1 in Developers Guide says it should and it has apparently worked in the past: oStyle = oDoc.createInstance( "com.sun.star.style.Style" ) '<- does not work Document factor does not have a registered service or something like this. I don't know if this is related but basically it's not working the way it is supposed to as far as I can see and there appears to be no way of accessing, modifying or removing the graphics styles in a Draw Document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a result of the JPG -> PNG conversion. Competitor products store in native format...and so since the file can be handled natively in the UI as a link, I'm not so sure it's really a ui problem, rather a storage problem? When the link is broken, the native jpg or whatever file should then live in the XML file... but I haven't read the code and I really don't consider myself competent enough to do so and actually understand what is going on... ...please consider a newer milestone. If I can be of any assistance in doing any footwork for this issue, please let me know. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Presentation created with each slide containing a link to an ~1MB jpg image. The purpose is to keep the resolution high for press purposes. Anyway, while the linked spreadsheet is slow, the size is only 113kB... expected result of course. But, now when I go "Edit->Links" and break all of them, then save, the file takes 5 minutes to save. A closer inspection of the now 260MB file after unzipping it shows all the JPG images are exported to 10MB png files. So, my original files which were about 35MB changed to 260MB and it becomes completely unbearable to work with. Competitor product after exporting linked file to PPT becomes about 37MB and is easily manipulated and worked on. So is this a bug? Well, maybe it's an enhancement which is a high priority. Not only is this an issue with this program but it also affects Draw. It seems crazy that 30MB of images changes to 260MB. the best png compression I could get on a sample file is converting from 1,126kB JPG to 8,525kB PNG using GIMP. So that is why they get big... There just has to be a better way. What about natively keeping the JPG format instead of using PNG? would that speed things up? It would certainly keep things smaller. Steps to reproduce: 1) Create a presentation 2) link a sample image using "Insert->Picture->From File" fine a 1MB JPG and link to it (check box "Link") 3) Duplicate this slide to about 30 (you don't need to use 30 separate files like in mine) 4) Save the file 5) Save a copy of the file 6) Open one of them, go : "Edit->Links" in "normal" view and break all the links. 7) Save (go for coffee, have a break, run a mile and come back) 8) look at file size. Examine "Pictures" subdirectory in xml file. Should be full of 10MB files. Try to do anything in the file... should be slooow. 9) Save again... One would maintain the style in the top-most template, then any custom styles created from this template will cascade to its child documents. This cascading will only happen the first time you open the file though as others have mentioned. I think this is what cloph was saying earlier. People shouldn't be expecting to change the master template by changing the child documents. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59316 Issue #:|59316 Summary:|Presentation Crashes on Updating Custom Animations Component:|Presentation Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Linux Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|wg Reported by:|swingkyd --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Dec 13 15:28:19 -0800 2005 --- 1) Create a presentation 2) Create a slide with multiple Outline entries 3) Select all elements in Outline and assign a custom animation (such as fly-in) 4) Save presentation if you like 5) Now, Add a new entry in the outline somewhere in the middle. 6) (notice that the bottom one is no longer assigned any animation) 7) Assign a new animation to the bottom entry in the outline 8) Upon the preview of this animation, Impress will crash (has every time). I don't know if this is a problem in other distros because I don't have any other OS. I'm using OO.org 2.0, Gentoo ebuild binary "openoffice-bin" on a P4 PC with 512MB of RAM. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
