[sw-issues] [Issue 78005] Document corruption after printing to a certain printer

However, printing this document to a Ricoh AP3200 ( on the same cups server ) results in some very strange formatting corruption inside a table in the document. Immediately after pressing the 'print' button in the print dialog, you can see the document change to reflect this corruption, and then the document prints with this corruption. I am attaching the document, a PDF export *before* it was printer, and a PDF export *after* it was printed. I'm also attaching the PPD file for the RicohAP3200 printer. The corruption occurs in the table under the 'SUMMARY' heading on the 1st page. In the 1st column, each character in the 1st 2 words gets line break ( or something ) characters inserted after it, so the 1st 2 words basically go vertically down the page. It's very strange. See attached PDFs. I have tested 2 client PCs running Gentoo Linux and OOo-2.2. I have also tested OOo-2.2 under Windows 2000, and this bug DOES NOT HAPPEN ... ie it only affects Linux. We're using cups-1.2.10 on both the client and server, and using IPP browsing to 'connect' the printers ( ie zero configuration on the client ). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 45477] Uninstall does not remove files and Registry keys
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45477 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Mar 29 11:56:51 + 2007 --- I strongly disagree with the above comment re: not removing keys that weren't installed by OOo. The reason we're asking for these keys to be removed is for usability. The bottom line is that if these keys are not removed, then OOo will not be properly integrated on Windows. Users will go to open a document, and they'll get a file browser dialog asking them where soffice.exe went. I urge people to read again the so-called 'proper' method of migrating from one version of OO to another ( which I posted above, and had to repeat on 30 or so computers, multiplied by however many beta versions of OOo I ran ... to many anyway ), which involves manually removing registry keys. People who take the we didn't do it ... it's not our problem attitude are missing the point completely. Removing these keys is the only way OOo will work properly on Windows. Users should not have to manually edit the registry to get OOo to work. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I originally thought it was a bug in CUPS, so I forwarded off a cups debug log to the CUPS newsgroup, and got the followowing reply: --- The log indicates that OpenOffice requested only 1 copy ... Keep in mind that OOo creates PostScript job that violate some of the DSC in a way that CUPS' pstops filter might severely manglue up the job, especially things like watermarks (e.g. set upb via defaults in the PPD) are completely lost. And the numbr of copies is defined within the PostScript job (as /#copies n def), but no number of copies is set as a job attribute. Thus the pstops filter assumes only one copy. I'd suggest to do only raw printing from OOo until they produce DSC compliant PostScript. --- Can someone please make the following changes to the bug: - Affects OSX, Linux, and Windows - Version 2.1 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Perhaps it is time to consider a way of sanitising the registry when upgrading OOo to avoid all the issues people will be having now with opening Office documents since upgrading from 1.x to 2.0? For those not convinced of the need to address this bug, try the following simple demonstration. 1) Install OOo-1.1.4 on a clean system, using the default options for everything 2) 'Train' Windows Explorer ( right-click and 'open with...', select OOo ) and other apps ( eg Thunderbird ) how to open common Office documents. 3) Uninstall OOo-1.1.4. 4) Install OOo-2.0.1, using the default options for everything. 5) Try to open Office documents from Windows Explorer and Thunderbird. Explorer / Thunderbird try to use the old 1.1.4. They're looking in the registry. We should make sure that the registry contains valid data while installing. I have to manually do the following on 20 or so systems every time I upgrade: 1) Uninstall OOo. 2) Open regedit.exe 3) Search for 'soffice'. 4) Delete all entries found. 5) Search for 'oowriter'. 6) Delete all entries found. 7) Search for 'oocalc'. 8) Delete all entries found. 9) Search for 'ooimpress'. 10) Delete all entries found. 11) Install OOo. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 45477] Uninstall does not remove files and Registry keys
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45477 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 1 16:15:08 -0700 2005 --- I'd like to weight in on this one as well. There are a number of ways that paths to OOo binaries can get into the registry. The installer is just one of them. Users can right-click on a file, and say Open With ... and choose the path to an OOo binary. There are most likely others. The problem is that with the path changing with each version, a lot of stale references to uninstalled versions of OOo are left around the place. Clicking on a file will then result in a dialog saying something along the lines that the destination file doesn't exist. When I do an OOo upgrade, after I uninstall OOo, I open regedit, and manually search for all soffice, swriter, and scalc references and delete them. This is the only way to get a fully functioning system. So ... not only should the installer have the option of removing registry entries that a previous installer may have set, but also of removing *ALL* registry settings that have anything to do with OOo - whether the installer put them there or not. Without this, users must be adept at registry hacking to make OOo work properly, especially when clicking on documents from Windows Explorer. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=40240 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Apr 28 20:17:47 -0700 2005 --- I've just tested under OOo-1.9.95 on a number of Linux systems, and the problem has actually gotten *worse*. Prior to 1.9.95, in the dialog: Options == Language Settings == Languages I could at least see the results of a successful English ( Australian ) dictionary installation, even if I couldn't actually select the language in 'writing tools'. Now installation isn't even accomplished. It works under Windows 2000 with OOo-1.9.95. I don't want to sound like a spoilt brat jumping up and down and threatening to 'go back to Microsoft Office'. It would be an absolute tragedy, however, if OOo-2 went final with spell checking so horribly broken ... and this ( moving back to Microsoft Office ) is exactly what will happen if, as with the 1.0 release, spell checking is not functional. When combined with http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3310 OOo is complely unusable on anything other than Windows in the default language ... and let me point out once more that the default language has been wandering from English (US) to English (UK) to Danish! ( see above comments ) Seriously, a word processor *needs* a functional spell checker. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The very reason why this is an issue is that OOo *does* know what language the document is in, and if a matching language pack is not installed, spell checking fails. For example, we are in Australia. All our documents are created thus. When someone with OOo goes to edit the document / template / whatever, they can't do a spell check because the Australian language pack is not installed. If I put a row of controls on a dialog, select them, and copy and paste them, the newly pasted items are not aligned to the originals. Even worse, there is no method via the GUI to make them align. Controls seem to 'snap to grid' when dragged around on the dialog ... HOWEVER ... the grid is not a common grid, but a grid which is specific to the controls you have selected. I suspect this is because the dialog editor only allows you to move controls by a fixed amount each time ( for example, by 10 pixels ), so the position(s) you can drag a control to are defined by their original position on the dialog. I suggest: - a menu command which aligns selected items, for example 'align to left-most item', 'align to right-most item', etc. - the ability to move controls by ONE unit at a time I realise that I can double-click on a control and set it's 'PositionX', 'PositionY', 'width', etc. This is completely non-intuitive and a very clumsy way of doing things. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If I try to scroll any further down ( ie to the 'ACTION BY NUS' part ), OOo crashes. I discovered something else interesting too. If I open OOo with the above document, with the zoom set to 'optimal', and then change the view to '100%', the page renders everything in the table down to the 'PERSONNELL PRESENT' row. It then renders the 'ACTION BY NUS' cell, but there is *nothing* else next to this or below it. Perhaps it is something about the bulleting in the table next to 'ACTION BY NUS' that is causing the crash.
