I should add that this problem affects the volume in general - I have a manual
volume dial on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300D and experience the same problem.

I've successfully installed 3.1.1, and it does not resolve the situation. I've
attached screenshots to illustrate the problem.

I've been thinking about what might be the cause of the problem - could it have
to do with the fact that I'm opening the file on the left directly from an
archive?

Hi, additional information about the bug:

1) It is impossible to select text below where the text stops displaying. In
this sense, it seems that this occurs not because the text is 'invisible,' but
because it doesn't believe that anything is there.

2) My only resolution so far is to delete text above the problem until the
right
text displays. I've found, however, that if I undo this deletion, the problem
does not reoccur (at this particular point in the document - but usually
elsewhere).

Hi there - I've been having problems installing a second copy of OO onto my
computer for testing purposes. I have posted in the OO forum about it, but
have
yet to get a reply. Hopefully something will come of it and I can test for the
fault.

Regarding my version, from the Open Office about page I get:

...
openoffice.org-core 3.1.0-5ubuntu1jaunty1, Thu Jun 18 19:30:05 UTC 2009

I am just now going to install the native build to see if it makes a difference.

Hi there. In response to some of your comments:

1) Ctrl-Shift-R did not work as a solution.

2) To my knowledge, there are no links to other documents or the web in these
documents, if by links you mean embedded text that is pulled from elsewhere
than
the original document.

3) I'm a little hesitant to upload the original file because it comes from a
private database (Nexis), and I'm not sure if they'd be happy about it. If you
don't think this will be a problem, let me know and I'll attach it. I can tell
you that it is a problem with all such documents of a certain length. These
ones are generally 500-1200 pages long.

4) I've been playing around with it today trying to figure out what causes it
to
happen, as it doesn't happen every time I open the document and scroll down.
It
seems from what I've done so far that having the second document open appears
to
be causal, as I haven't been able to make the error happen in the few tries
I've
given to it alone; however, this is only after a few trials. I'll keep playing
with it and let you know.

This problem occurs when I have two documents open: the first a doc file from a
Nexus search, the second an odt file with my dissertation.

Though the text initially displays as it should, if I scroll down using the
mouse
wheel or sidebar arrows eventually I reach a point where the text ceases to
display at all. The only remedy I've found for this solution is to delete some
of the text the precedes the problem.

When you have multiple windows open of the same document in Writer (via Window
-- New Window), the insert note function does not operate properly.

Steps to recreate problem.

1) Open new writer document
2) Open new window
3) Insert note - type something in the note
- Note that here you're switched from one window to the other - also an error?
4) Click back on the window that you were originally writing (not the one that
you were switched to and wrote in) - the note disappears.

The only way to make the note permanent is to ensure that you type the same data
in the note box of both windows.

I've noticed that sometimes the language setting automatically switches from my
default language (English UK) to another one (English US). I'm not sure of the
cause, but it happened after my document reached about 9500 words.

Thought the entire document has been selected and changed to UK, if I begin to
type anywhere in the document the section where I begin to type switches to US.
There have been no other noticeable errors.

Selecting all, choosing English UK, saving the document and reopening the
document seems to have solved the problem, but I thought I'd bring it forward as
it's an undesirable event.
