You are true: There is no OpenOffice.org Service Manager entry in developer
snapshots. That's not a defect, that is intended. There is no system integration
for developer snapshots as OOo-Dev_3.3.0beta1_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe is.
The next release candidate for OOo 3.3 will be integrating again.

OpenOffice.org ServiceManager or StarOffice ServiceManager is the icon to use
for doing the security settings in dcomcnfg. There is now a particular AppId
entry written during installation of OOo and the com.sun.star.ServiceManager
classe refers to the AppID.
Now, since these keys are written, dcomcnfg seems to do some work of its own and
creates a subkey soffice under AppId using the key of the first OOo
TextDocument. TextDocument, Drawing, Spreadsheed are all OLE objects and have a
clsid entry in the registry. They all have as LocalServer the soffice.exe
executable. Those OLE objects cannot be used remotely.

A further fix should create AppIds subkeys for all the OLE objects, which refer
to the ServiceManager AppId. Then the TextDocument entry in dcomcnfg should
disappear.

There will be a new AppID key:
 HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{82154420-0FBF-11d4-8313-005004526AB4}

and the existing OpenOffice.org Service Manager class has now an additional
AppID entry with the same GUID. This links the service manager to the AppID
entry above. dcomcnfg will therefore display OpenOffice.org Service Manager or
StarOffice Service Manager, depending what product one has. I will update the
developers guide accordingly.

There is a part of development guide that describes working with DCOM:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/ProUNO/Bridge/DCOM

The most interesting part is the following:
To make DCOM work, apply proper security settings for client and server. This
can be done by setting the appropriate registry entries or programmatically by
calling functions of the security API within the programs. The office does not
deal with the security, hence the security settings can only be determined by
the registry settings which are not completely set by the office's setup. The
AppID key under which the security settings are recorded is not set. This poses
no problem because the dcomcnfg.exe configuration tools sets it automatically.

Thus the current behavior is the designed one, OOo does not write the AppID
entries explicitly. If it should be changed, it would be a feature change.

mav-jl: Sending to you for now. DCOM-bridge is your implementation, so it is
your decision whether the feature should be changed or not.

According to issue Issue 106090 this affects Window 7 32 bit as well. When
uninstalling a 3.1.1 I noticed that the AppId entries remained in the registry.
Removing them manually and reinstalling OOo 3.1.1 showed that there are no AppId
keys. This and is' findings indicate, that the problem exist already for quite
some time and that this was not noted early because of the unclean
uninstallation. Now, since users switch to Win 7 they have a clean registry to
start with and the error becomes obvious.
