What we need is something that works like hostname (1). On windows, such a function should return the 'Machine Name'. Since you told me, that you are already working on such a function, I suggest setting this issue to a duplicate to the task for that function. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. One reason why that lock file is needed at all is the configuration---sure. However, I would prefer to keep this issue focused on the original problem. If you feel the need to address the problem that multiple instances of OOo cannot run in parallel, please file another issue for that. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please keep this in mind. Admittedly "the" configuration is by far the biggest peace of cake. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A host name (or address) is needed because a generic lock file would not indicate wether a process actually works with configuration data or if the process crashed f.e. And yes, this does not solve problems when running two instances on the same machine by the same user with different displays. So far you have to live with the workaround. @sb: Please take over this one as it is a configuration issue. We need a configuration that allows concurrent acess. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Adding a simple alias for 127.0.0.1 does not work. From some strange reason your code adds a suffix for the localhost... If my computer is called aaa.bbb.ccc, you query the address for localhost.bbb.ccc. This is unexpected behaviour. Just to make sure... $ hostname aaa $ hostname -a aaa aaa.bbb.ccc This does not work. But if I put the following in /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost aaa localhost.bbb.ccc It succeeds in resolve state. Just a thought... Why to use host-name for locking? You can use host-address... I think it is better... Why not allow the second instance to read-only configuration if it is locked? Again... You only need to mark it as generic locked... no host or address. If the lockfile does not exist is there any other need to rertrieve the hostname ? @alonbi: Have a hostname entry for 127.0.0.1 in your .hosts file should help as a workaround. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
