I am almost sure I have enough RAM to run OOo and other applications, with around 300 MB of memory in my IBM Thinkpad 600E running Windows 98. Also, the operating system is taking advantage of virtual memory, meaning swapping to hard drive when needed. The appearance of the problem does not matter on whether I have any other applications running or not; I usually have FreeMind and FireFox running. When FreeMind and FireFox are running, and OOo is not, I can hibernate the laptop without problems. Dan - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Mostly, the The computer is going to standby mode pop-up message is hanging exactly until I close all OOo applications; and exactly at the point at which I close all of them, the laptop finally goes to sleep. I think I misinterpreted your problem a little bit. I never have problems to start the standby mode. Now and then, my system can't go to hybernate (full sleep) due to 'lack of system resources'. Only 1 Gig, far too little of course ;-) Anyway, I'll keep an eye on that problem, see if it has anything to do with running programms. Maybe your problem is windows'98 related? Ever heard of someone else with such a problem? What if you have other programms running? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76644 Issue #|76644 Summary|OOo prevents standby mode in laptop (notebook, sleep) Component|framework Version|OOo 2.2 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows 98 Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|tm Reported by|danielpolansky --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Apr 24 08:23:26 + 2007 --- In a laptop computer, when I go to standby mode, the operating system shows Going to standby mode pop-up window, but does not send the laptop to sleep. When that happens, I close all OpenOffice programs to ensure standby mode. Sometimes I have to kill the OpenOffice process manually before the laptop goes to sleep. The problem mostly occurs only after the SECOND standby mode; the first attempt to go to standby mode is usually without any need to close OOo. Nothing of the sort happens with any other application. The issue has been there in versions 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2. The problem pertains at least to Impress and Calc; my impression is it has something to do with the resident part of OOo. Thanks a lot.
