We will use jpeg compression only if its compression is better than zipping a graphic. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is very easy to test. Just scan two 8.5 x 11 BW, 300dpi pages and one color, 150dpi page into a single OOo 1.1.4 document. Save the file then export to pdf. Reopen file in Beta 2.0 and export to pdf, the resulting file size difference is obvious, even using settings as suggested. I think this is due to how OOo handles different types of images in the same document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=47751 User sj changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|NEW |STARTED Target milestone|OOo Later |OOo 2.0.1 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jun 7 09:09:22 -0700 2005 --- By the way this issue remained unconfirmed because I do have a huge workload with other issues that needs to be executed and initially the problem was not reproducible by me. But I found the problem after thoroughly checking the graphic export of our pdf filter. The difference is that OpenOffice up to version 1.1.4 is not using jpeg compression for graphics less than 32*32 pixels and graphics less or equal than 256 colors (the jpeg export filter will blow up the graphic to 24bit then). I will change the pdf export so that graphics with few colors will not be exported by using jpeg. Changed target to OOo 2.01 As a workaround, just use loseless compression when creating pdf files with few colors. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. They used to tend to be smaller that the office document. For example, I scanned in a document that created a 70 KB Writer document. The saved pdf file was greater than 700 KB. Also, I imported a 12 KB document from OOo 1.1.4 that was 12 KB. it saved in the OOo 2 beta format at 19 KB. The exported pdf file was 136 KB. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Scanned two 8.5x11 pages, one was color at 150dpi, the other bw at 300dpi, set pdf export to 300dpi at 80% compression. The resulting file was 1,982KB. Did tha same in OOo1.1.4 and the resulting file was 431KB in print mode and 631 in press optimized. When the file was printed from OOo1.9.95 using PDF Creator, the file size was 403. It appears that there is some other issue here. -Tim - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If so, individually is definately the best method IMHO. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
