I can not reproduce this either (tried on Linux and Mac). Therefore I close
this issue.

If someone can still reproduce it then please open the issue again.

Hi, on the same platform as the one described in my original posts above but
running OpenOffice 3.0 it seems this problem may have been resolved in the
update from version 2.4. CPU usage remains low and stable even over several
hours of operation for each soffice.bin process attached to each Sun Ray Kiosk
session.

Thanks for fixing this up (in my scenario) :)

All reports of this problem relate to 2.* versions. Also I can not reproduce
this problem. Therefore I change target to OOo 3.2 and priority to P3 in order
to see if anybody can reproduce this on a 3.* or whether this was fixed as a
side effect.

Hi,

I believe I've duplicated this issue on Solaris 10 x86, using OpenOffice 2.4.1.
Although I see this is a dupliate of
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86363, the issue described in
that link matches more than the behviour described here, in that I have CPU
usage issues but memory usage is OK and stable.

I am running a number of Kiosk Sessions using Sun Ray Server Software v4.0. Each
session equates to an instance of soffice.bin running Impress.

When each session is launched, the soffice.bin process consumes around 3 percent
CPU. This gradually creeps up over the course of a few hours such that an
inordinate amount of CPU time is eventually consumed by the running process. It
appears to be in the order of five hours from launching the process to it
consuming all available CPU time.

I run a maximum of three sessions, so at peak each process is consuming around
30 percent CPU.

I will post some grabs for you shortly.

Sorry for the double post above.

My presentation consists of around a dozen slides, no fancy transitions (in fact
no transition effects at all). A few graphics, but no animations etc. It is set
to loop endlessly, and the intent is for 24/7 digital signage.

Any more information needed please do let me know. This is somewhat of a serious
issue (for us).

This is likely a duplicate of issue 84974, where also a memory leak is reported
which I can reproduce on Ubuntu with OOo 2.3.0. Also for that issue, the top
command reveals that the memory is allocated to Xorg.

Running an endless presentation on our public area info point,
ooimpress aquires constantly memory ressources from the X11 server until out of
memory (including swap) and causing Linux's oom-killer to shut the application
down. Memory akquistion for a 5-slide presenation (without graphics/gimmicks)
with a size of 400 kB is about 1 MB every 5 seconds. Shutting down ooimpress
short before the out of memory situation causes Xorg to free all that memory
and running sane from then on. That's reproducible. We could also see that
memory akquisition does not happen at reentering the presentation loop
but also while running one long presentation.

Intensively tested with various system and software versions:
Deiban etch, Debian lenny, Xorg 7.2, Xorg 7.3, OO 2.3.1, OO 2.0.4
to verify also tested with remote X server via DISPLAY=myotherX11host:0
and in OO's server mode as well as on desktop.

Might be a hint to find the bug:
In 2.0.4 (Debian etch's default OO), it was not the Xorg process consuming the
memory, but the soffice.bin process itself with same phenomenology.

Until bug fix we help ourselves presenting PDFs instead of ODPs.
