please have a look at the attachment

imho the spellchecker component uses somewhere an absolute path
to find the dictionaries ...

Inverse DUP of Issue 98755?

@brinzing:
Ist's out of interest what happens if you do more or less forbidden
manipulations in OS path settings (but of course, those hints might help to find
the reasons for aour problem). The real questions are:
1. Will OOo spellcheck work if you do a default installation using a
completely new user profile (rename old Profile and program folder before
   installation)?
If not, we have a bug.
2. Will OOo spellcheck work if you do a custom installation using a
completely new user profile (rename old Profile and program folder before
   installation)?
If not, we have a bug, and additional information concerning workarounds
can help to find the reasons for the problem.
3. Will OOo spellcheck work if you do a default installation using the old
   (renamed back) user profile?
If not, we have a bug.
4. Will OOo spellcheck work if you do a custom installation using the old
   (renamed back) user profile?
If not, we might have a bug.

To decide this, we need ALL information concerning every mouse click and every
key press, observation and message of the installation of all your components.
It's important to know how and why you installed your spell checkers, language
packs and other components.

Currently my suspect is that some environment variables are used in a different
way by OOo program and OOo spell checker extension. Can you try an other
extension (PDF import or similar) to check whether you see the same work -
doesn't work effects if you manipulate path information in start icon?

@rainerbielefeld
i think i found the bug, see:
http://michael-schwarz.blogspot.com/2009/02/noch-ein-letztes-wort-zu-cprogramme-und.html

after deleting C:\Programme and adding the link again (as described)
the problem does no longer occur.
it seems, my preinstalled vista was misconfigured in some way ...

Currently my suspect is that some environment variables are
used in a different way by OOo program and OOo spell
 checker extension.

that's what i am thinking too - but till now i found no other extensions with
these symptoms

Thank you for your further tests!

I still have the dim feeling that something is wrong with collaboration between
WIN Vista and OOo/OOo spellchecker, but currently I see no chance for further
investigations.

Please feel free to reopen this issue if you find out that the problem still
exists in the latest stable release of OOo and if you can provide more
investigations.

Files\OpenOffice.org 3\... to C:\Programme\OpenOffice.org 3\...

btw: i can confirm this bug on OO320m8

How did you check that it works with program files in C:\Program Files?
Pls contribute information from spell checker dialogues concerning active
dictionaries.
What's about other languages? Does spellchecker work for documents in English
language?

How did you check that it works with program files in C:\Program Files?

i changed the oo icon's target to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\... and it
worked. i changed back to C:\Programme\OpenOffice.org 3\... and the
spellcheckes did not work again...

even if i start oo (installed to C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\...) using
an icon with target C:\Programme\OpenOffice.org 3\... spellchecker will fail

please notice:
C:\Programme and C:\Program Files point to the same folder in vista.
windows explorer will show C:\Programme but a cmd line shows
C:\Program Files

Pls contribute information from spell checker dialogues concerning
 active dictionaries.

installed spellcheckers: dict-de,oxt dict-en,oxt dict-fr,oxt dict-it,oxt
the spellcheckers are active but do not work as mentioned above

 What's about other languages?
Does spellchecker work for documents in English language

no, seems all spellcheckers are affected...
