[sc-issues] [Issue 94724] Date/time arithmetic in fo rmulas does not work after input
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94724 --- Additional comments from gost...@openoffice.org Fri Jun 19 18:21:56 + 2009 --- @nn: I've read issue 88897, and I think I understand the implications, but it IS incredibly annoying - so annoying, in fact, that I still prefer 2.4.2 for spreadsheets. Being able to input time values this way (00:40) is also something that someone new to OO.o expects. There should be at least some workaround. IIRC, Quattro for DOS (yes, I'm that old), at a time when you couldn't input time values directly in most spreadsheets (not Lotus, not Mutiplan), had a shortcut key combination, I think it was ^D, to indicate to the input parser that the next value was a date or time value. So, two suggestions as a compromise/workaround: 1) couldn't the input parser reinstate the old behavior for cells formatted as time? Or, at least 2) give us a shortcut that tells the input parser that the next value is not a cell/column reference but indeed a time value that should be converted from 7:12 to the number 0.3 Any of those would be great. Thanks for doing great work, and I know that pleasing everyone is impossible G.Ostner - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. You can obviously use functions like =A1+time(0,40,0) instead of =A1+00:40:00, but this shouldn't be necessary, and it worked in 2.x. Actually, in cells formatted as time (like HH:MM), even values in formulas should not be converted to floating point for editing (=A1+0,0278), but should keep the time format and be editable as =A1+00:40) - this would be much easier. I know this would only work for adding and subtracting (multiplying by 2 would otherwise be shown as multyplying by 48 hours/2days). The trailing zero is truncated. When you enter something like =12:00 (time in quotes)the string is interpreted as text (left align with STANDARD number format), on the other hand, entering =5:00+1:00 the expression is calculated to 0,25, the decimal value for 6:00 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Also tested with 2.4.1 and can also confirm that it worked fine with 2.4. The problem seems to be, that 3.0 does no longer modify the time input immediately to a decimal number: Try with 2.4.1 1. open new spreadsheet 2. Input to a cell =11:22 enter (some date will appear) 3. Move cell cursor back to cell you see contents =0,4736111 Try with 3.0.0 11. open new spreadsheet 12. Input to a cell =11:22 enter (Err:502 will appear) 13. Move cell cursor back to cell you see contents =11:22 Because the problem is some input handling, there is no problem with documents created with 2.4, all cells will be shown correctly. There is also no problem to calculate with cells containing time information. Only calculation with direct time input is broken. @klute Please specify your Platform and OS! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
