The hard format will win over the style formatting in every place. That works as designed and of course is desired by users. You can get rid of that formatting by: removing it in first paragraph via Format.paragraph.Text flow. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Set the style of the page to say Default. Now, apply page break with style (say Envelope) for the first paragraph. Notice, the style of the page does not change. When you apply a page style to first page in a new document, you can change it in the first paragraph with Format.Paragraph.Text flow or just by double clicking a page style in the Styles and Formatting window (F11). If you apply a new style by Insert.Break feature, a new page with the desired style is created. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I am giving exact steps to reproduce the problem. But no one seems to follow them. Also, please do not close the defect when you are still not clear about it. Ask for more explanation. The problem exists in 3.1 also. So if you like I can create a new defect. Here are the steps, once again, to reproduce the problem. 1. Create a new text document. 2. Create a bunch of paragraph. For the first paragraph set the style toe heading 1. 3. Set the style of the first page to Default. 4. Change paragraph style heading 1 to insert a page break with style Envelope. Notice that the style of first page does *not* change to Envelope. That is the defect. This defect will not appear if you did not explicitly set the page style in step 3. In other words, if you skip step 3, the style of first page correctly changes to Envelope. You should be able to try these steps out easily. Let me know if you have any problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is what MRU supposed as we discussed this off issue. At step 3 you are make a hard formatting: The page has already the Style Default but you force this applying manually the attribute Default. Then the soft (over style) automatic of the page break with page styles respect this hard formatting you have done, leave page 1 as Default and the other as Envelop. You can notice the same if you go to page 2 (which is now Envelop) and apply to the page the Default style: - The page becomes *hard formatted* Default though its first paragraph still shows a page break before: Envelop To compare and understand the mechanism of hard/soft formatting: - type in a new document: this is a test (default font is Times New Roman) - select This and format it (again!) as Times New Roman. - Change the default font of the paragraph (in the paragraph style) to Arial - the whole paragraph becaomes Arial but not This which remains Times New Roman because it is hard formatted. To get the first page correctly to Envelop, simply apply manually the style Envelop to this page. For mw it's a works as designed = INVALID. @MRU? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Partly its my fault that I didn't explain it well. Try these two scenarios. First, create a new document. For the first paragraph apply page break with style. You will see that the page style change immediately. This is the expected behavior and it works fine. Next, create another new document. Set the style of the page to say Default. Now, apply page break with style (say Envelope) for the first paragraph. Notice, the style of the page does not change. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In the case of the first paragraph there is no page break and then no page style applied. You have to apply the page style you want for the first page by using styles and formatting (F11). From a word processor good practices point of view, I think there is no good reason to have an Heading_1 style paragraph as first paragraph, other than for a document which is part of a master document. So, necessarily, you have something before the first heading 1 paragraph, and page break with page style works as expected. Take these steps to duplicate the problem. 1. Create a new writer file. 2. Add some text. For example, add the following text with the style mentioned in parenthesis. Hello world (Heading 1) There (Default) Hello moon (Heading 1) There (Default) 3. Set the style of page to Default or Right Page (anything else for that matter). 4. Change the Heading 1 paragraph style to insert a page break before with page style Envelope. Notice that, for the first Heading 1 (Hello world), page break has not taken effect. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
