So a new installation of OOo will access this user directory again and may run into the same problems caused by things within the user settings. Since this occurs on a few machines only (assuming that all installations were done the same way), maybe there is odd characters (Non-ASCII) in the respective user names? - This sometimes causes trouble, too. Please try this: Close the office (including quickstarter). See tools -Options - OOo - Paths where to find the user settings, it should be something like ..\Documents and Settings\[$UserName]\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\ Rename ist (i.e. to \user_OLD\) or delete it. Then restart the office and see. Set to worksforme. Please check the given proposal from ES to check the paragraph style language setting (Cursor in paragraph, Context - Edit paragraph style - On Tab Font see listbox Language). Note that the language is a characer attribute. So the paragraph style can be overridden by characer settings. See Format - Character: On Tab font you can set the language for indvidual words (all in current selection while toying here, of course). Please tell what the language status bar control tells about the language at the current cursor position. The status bar is the grey something at the bottom of the Writer window.
