OK finaly i found what makes all thgis confusion.
as i was sure i could acces a server with 3.1 now i found why: use off the 
Windows file-dialog instead off the OO-dialog
so on 3.1 acces with Windows-dialog NO acces with OO-dialog
   on 3.2 NO acces with Windows-dialog and NO acces with OO-dialog

Ok did some more testing: PASIVE mode is not the reason because the 2 servers 
need Pasive mode.
Unfortunly i can not give the User and the password on the server who refuse 
acces from OO.
Tomorrow i ask the net administrator if he can find in his logs a reason why OO 
cannot acces 
I comeback with his findings

stupid me:
our networks people changes the name of the server therefore you can connect 
using the IP adres. I could not due to the wrong name.
BUT: Our server in Liege refuse PASV a other server needs PASV.
OO works when there is no need at PASV.
So again sorry ist not a deffect, it was the same situation with 3.1
I hope you still can fix it :-)

sos: Things are getting worse. I'm not able to reproduce your problem. Just
downloaded and installed a fresh OOo 3.2 from


1. Started OOo
2. Opened Tools/Options/OOo/General/Open-Save-Dialogs -> checked Use OOo dialogs
3. File/Open -> entered "ftp://administrator:egp...@217.136.254.209";
-> got directory listing, could load and save docs -> look for kso_was_here.odt

Without a server that produces the error you mentioned I'm lost. Can you still
reproduce the error?

Do not think i gave any doubts about your expertise, i just tryed to be 
helpfull, the problem is that what you told me is mostly in the head of the 
experts and mostly not documented For us, common users, its a bit of a blackbox 
without handles.

 I understand very well what the problem is. And believe me, this can most
probably be fixed without a new configuration entry. Please leave it up to the
experts *how* a bug gets fixed.

 Hint: If an ftp client tries EPSV and the server answers that it does not
understand this mode, a clever client could fully automatically switch to PASV
and retry... This is what I what I have in mind for a fix. Let's just see
whether this works.

problem? Very nice, but I cannot access the server. The hostname ftp.pmgliege.be
cannot be resolved. Is it only available in your intranet or is their just a

OK we have a FTP who soon will be out of service :-)

trye to open in aa OO-3.1 dialog : ftp://administrator:egp...@ftp.pmgliege.be
(for security reasons do do not het so far but at least you are on the server)

do the same in a oo-3.2 dialog
( here we do not enter to the server at all because OO use now EPSV istead off 
PASV) 
Please make a extra configuration under "Internet" where we can choose the 
wanted mode

FTP acces is not (longer) working one some servers
3.1 still works, but sinds 3.2 I get no longer acces to some servers
it seems that i3.1 was using PASIVE mode to connect to a ftp server
Server GUI's told us that OO usessinds 3.2 EPSV mode what not is accepeted by 
certain (older) servers.
We need a FTP configuration setting in the GUI to switch from one mode to a 
other
