Skype really works with aoss for you? We have seen TONS of reports that
it didn't and had assumed it was a bug in aoss.

What sound card are you using?

Not currently possible. This needs to be implemented in the mixer app
or alsa-lib. The former is much easier and the latter more difficult
but also more correct.

There is no such module as snd-pcm1-oss. Only snd-pcm-oss. Where did

[Alsa-user] Mixer channel locking (Envy 24)

2006-01-04 Thread Sakari Ailus

Hi!

I have an M-Audio Delta 44 sound card with Envy 24 chip. Unlike many
other sound cards, this one has a bunch of separate channels in the
mixer. Not any kind of master volume control which would control volume
on all output channels. I'd rather use the card for playing stereo audio
stream than mono...

So I'm asking if it's possible to lock the output channels to each
other. Or have something else which gets around the problem of having to
tune output level for each channel separately.

Regards,

[Alsa-user] YMF744 AC3 Passthrough

2006-01-04 Thread Dave
Does this card YMF744 Yamaha chip support AC3 passthrough with alsa? I
tried many combinations of ways to get it to output Ac3, but all I ended
up with was static, PCM out the optical port was OK, AC3 passthrough out
on my AL655 is OK too..
It apparently works in windows. ac3dec and mplayer just output noise.

Thanks!

No idea what snd-pcm1-oss would be. It certainly does not exist in my
version of alsa.
What makes you think that krec requires this module? It is always better to
post the symptoms rather than your interpretation of those. Since you do
not know what is happening, the chances are high that you have
misinterpreted the symptoms.

[Alsa-user] Strange behaviour of alsamixer/amixer/kmix

2006-01-04 Thread Stefan Bruens
Hi,

I have found some strange behaviour of the three programs above (using
different AC97 codecs):

1. start kamix or gamix, select the "lock" for capture channel
start alsamixer or kmix, and select a different capture channel -> both
channels get switched

2. quit kamix/gamix, select a different capture channel in alsamixer/kmix ->
only left channel is changed

amixer get Mic:
indicates Capture [on] for both channels, even if only left channel is set to
Mic

amixer cset name='Capture Source' 3,3 sets both channels to Aux, so it works
as expected

Greetings,

Stefan

So will it work to do two lines for the same module:

options snd-usb-audio index=3

?

Or should I do it on the alias lines?

"snd_" prefix in module options is deprecated. Pass "index=#".

Also, "options snd-card-4 ..." seems not working on 2.6
module-init-tools (at the last time I tried). It has to be a real

Re: [Alsa-user] Skype - problem with sound device - ?

2006-01-04 Thread Sergei Steshenko
You really see no connection or just do not hear any
sound ?

If it is a connection (and not) sound problem, then it's
a wrong forum to ask.

I personally am just a Skype user anyway, so I do not know how
to resolve connection problems.

Netstat ?
Nettop ?

Skype has good forums, including Linux ones, maybe
ask there.

I do two things:

1) disable ALL alsa applications like 'ams', 'alsaplayer', etc., but do
leave 'alsamixer' open;

2) run Skype as

aoss skype

Almost all PCI hardware optimizes DMA transfers and uses FIFOs.
So, typically you cannot go bellow 64-128 bytes per period.

Allowing such values is the bug in driver - if you tell us
which hardware does this, we can disable these period sizes
in driver.

[Alsa-user] very low framesize

2006-01-04 Thread Alexander Carôt
Hi to all,

I have a general technical question :

With low latency kernel and related stuff I typically run my soundcard with
48kHz and 128 Samples/frame.

What surprises me is the fact that in case of using 8kHz only I still can't
lower the framsize to values below 128. 64 or 32 don't work at all
(dropouts,under/overruns). This surprises me because with 8kHz it should
take much less computation power.

Can anyone tell why this is the case ?

Best regards, thanks in advance

IEC controls are S/PDIF (ie. digital channels) related controls.

All gains are muted at startup by spec. You can use alsactl to save
the current settings and to restore them at every boot.
