[Alsa-user] I can't install the new alsa-driver 0.9.4
Hi all. I have distro MDK 9.1 with original kernel 2.4.21. I configure and compile the new alsa-driver, but when i try to install,i have the same first problem of mmihai (I can't install alsa-drivers-0.9.4.tar.bz2 with one kernel comipilled by me) with the same result : depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/sound/acore/snd.oif [ -L /usr/include/sound ]; then \ rm -f /usr/include/sound; \ ln -sf /usr/src/alsa-driver-0.9.4/include/sound /usr/include/sound; \else \ rm -rf /usr/include/sound; \ install -d -m 755 -g root -o root /usr/include/sound; \ for f in include/sound/*.h; do \ install -m 644 -g root -o root $f /usr/include/sound; \ done \fiif [ -d /sbin/init.d ]; then \ install -m 755 -g root -o root utils/alsasound /sbin/init.d/alsasound; \elif [ -d /etc/rc.d/init.d ]; then \ install -m 755 -g root -o! root utils/alsasound /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound; \elif [ -d /etc/init.d ]; then \ install -m 755 -g root -o root utils/alsasound /etc/init.d/alsasound; \fi Why??? Maybe the problem is that you have two snd modules from different ALSA versions? HTH -Frans Thank you for quickly reply. I have only /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/sound/acore directory. When I tryed to install the new alsa-driver, I didn't remove the original version installed with MDK 9.1. Now, with the lsmod command I see the modules esssolo1 load (I think this is the module installed with the distribution). Is this the problem? And if it is, how I can do? Sorry for my poor english... I send this to the list, maybe someone else has a good idea :) esssolo1 is an OSS module, it must be unloaded before you can load ALSA. But your first problem is 'unresolved symbols' in snd.o . What does 'depmod -ae' say? I have mandrake's 2.4.21-0.11mdk kernel and have snd.o in /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdk/kernel/sound/core/ And 'urpmf snd.o.gz' tells me: kernel-2.4.21.0.13mdk:/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/sound/core/snd.o.gz (I don't have that kernel installed). I still think the problem might be a conflict between the mandrake supplied ALSA modules and the ones you compiled yourself. Btw, what was the original problem with sound in Mandrake 9.1?
