RE: Problem excluding with GNUtar
Title: Problem excluding with GNUtar -Mensaje original-De: [mailto:]En nombre de Spicer, KevinEnviado el: jueves 18 de abril de 2002 14:00Para: ''Asunto: Problem excluding with GNUtar Hi, I'm having a problem backing up one of my linux hosts with amanda. I keep getting... FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY: linux1 /dev/hda3 lev 0 FAILED [/bin/tar returned 2] and... /-- linux1 /dev/hda3 lev 0 FAILED [/bin/tar returned 2] sendbackup: start [linux1:/dev/hda3 level 0] sendbackup: info BACKUP=/bin/tar sendbackup: info RECOVER_CMD=/bin/gzip -dc |/bin/tar -f... - sendbackup: info COMPRESS_SUFFIX=.gz sendbackup: info end ? gtar: ./log/messages: file changed as we read it | Total bytes written: 61583360 ? gtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors sendbackup: error [/bin/tar returned 2] \ Obviously /var/log/messages is the problem (/dev/hda3 is /var). But I followed the instructions in the man pages to exclude this file - from amanda.conf ... define dumptype always-full-tax { global comment "Full dump of this filesystem always using tar" program "GNUTAR" exclude "/var/log/messages" try exclude list "./amanda_exclude" compress fast priority high record no index yes dumpcycle 0 } and in the /var fs edit a file, amanda_exclude with the following entries ./log/messages and from disklist.. linux1 /dev/hda3 always-full-tax 1 le0 I also tried exclude"./log/messages" in the dumptype definition but that didn't work either. Has anyone else had a problem like this. I'm using amanda2.4.2p2 the server is Solaris 6 and the client is Slackware 7.1.0 with GNU tar 1.13 BMRB International http://www.bmrb.co.uk +44 (0)20 8566 5000 This message (and any attachment) is intended only for the recipient and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. exclude files in AIX
Hello, it is just a note for those who runs amanda in AIX: I read in the amanda.conf file that the exclude list file should contain paths such as "./file_you_don't_want_to_backup" and this is true in a linux box, but i have verified it doesn't work in AIX, it should be a path such as "file_you_don't_want_to_backup" bye
[no subject]
Hello everybody: two questions: * i have a linux box doing amanda backups (amanda:as user bin) to an aix box (amandad:as user root), when linux does the backup in aix, which user run the program in aix machine?. * amanda runs tar in the aix machine, but i have aix's tar and gtar, which one it is running?, i would like to run gtar because i have a exclude file and with aix's tar it doesn't work. The first in the PATH is aix's tar, how can i tell amanda to use gtar without modifing the path?
run out of space
Hello: i know amanda does a check before dump data, but does it include a space tape check?? i wonder what happen if the fs are grater than the tape capacity, is the entire backup thrown away or it back up only the fs that fit the tape? Thanks
recovering the information
Hello everybody: how can i recover the information of an amanda tape without the amanda software??
amanda in aix
Hello: I'm trying to compile amanda 2.4.2p2 in a 4.3.3 aix system. i installed gtar, gawk, gsed, perl and readline. i run the configure script, but when i do make i receive the next error: make[1]: Entering directory `/home/software/amanda-2.4.2p2/client-src' /usr/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link gcc -g -O2-o amandad amandad.o ../common-src/libamanda.la libamclient.la ../common-src/libamanda.la -lm -lreadline -lcurses -lnsl -lintl gcc -g -O2 -o amandad amandad.o ../common-src/.libs/libamanda.a -lm -lreadline -lcurses -lnsl -lintl .libs/libamclient.a -lm -lreadline -lcurses -lnsl -lintl ../common-src/.libs/libamanda.a -lm -lreadline -lcurses -lnsl -lintl -lm -lreadline -lcurses -lnsl -lintl ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .__main ld: 0711-345 Use the -bloadmap or -bnoquiet option to obtain more information. collect2: ld returned 8 exit status make[1]: *** [amandad] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/software/amanda-2.4.2p2/client-src' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

RE: amanda failed
hello, and thanks for your answers. If my tar is broken or my amanda version is wrong, why it is the first time it happens since i started using amanda 4 months ago??? I will follow your advices. >I recieved this mail, what is the meaning of "no backup size line"? >Why the dump failded??? That message means Amanda could not parse the last line of output from tar that says how big the backups were. It reports the line: > ? Total bytes written: nan (0B, ?B/s) That's clearly wrong. My guess is your version of GNU tar is broken. What version are you using? If it's 1.13 based, you need at least 1.13.17, or better yet, 1.13.19. If it's 1.12, you need the patch from www.amanda.org (although I don't think it affects this particular problem). FYI, these errors: > | gtar: > ./desar/desar11/LineaBase/lotoserver/var/socks/sock.bbox_server: > socket ignored are fixed in the latest Amanda (2.4.2p2).
system crash
Hello everybody: I'm wondering, if my entire system crash, and i have to built it again, just with a clean disk., i could do it from my last system amanda backup??? Montse
tapelist
i thought there was a tipelist file for each configuration file, so amanda could know which tape was on turn. i have 2 configuration files, 1 for weekly days and 1 for wednesday, there is just one tapelist in the first one directory. Can you help me thanks
amrmtape
I'm trying to reuse a tape, so first i amrmtape its label: Viernes01, Semanal is the configuration directory. I get this output from amrmtape: amrmtape Semanal Viernes01 amrmtape:preserving original database in informacion.orig.2014(exported). amadmin: WARNING: input is from different org: Cirsa_Diario if after doing it i do amlabel Semanal Viernes01 rewinding, reading label Viernes01, tape is active rewinding tape no labeled so it didn't rm the label when i did amrmtape. can anybody helpme???
modification
Hello every body: i did a modification in the amstatus script, it looked for amdump file by default, but amanda creates amdump.1, as the newer file, so if i typed amstatus Diario, (Diario is where i have the amanda.conf), it said that the $logdir/amdum doesn't exist, so you had to type the commad with the file option. bye
hostname
Hello everybody: i configured amanda to run as a server in a machine whith an oldhostname Now i changed the hostname to newhostname when i do amrecover it looks for oldhostname. How can i tell amanda that i have changed the name of the server where it is running?
amreport
hello: does amdump run amreport at the end???. If so, shouldn't it send me a mail with the report???, amverify does send me a mail. when i run amreport myself it gives a segmentation fault. Thanks montse

PV-100T-DDS4
Ok: i run tapetype again over a PowerVault(Dell) 100T with a DDS4 tape, this time the results were different: define tapetype PV-100T-DDS4{ comment "just produced by tapetype program" length 16534 mbytes filemark 0 kbytes speed 2278 kps }
RV: RV: typetape
ok: i was trying to run tapetype as root with the bash shell but my system hanged. i solved this problem running tapetype as bin:disk(my amanda user:group, i don't know if it is important) and with the sh shell. This worked!!!. i found this clue reading the amanda-user mailing list archives. What i got was: define tapetype PV-100T-DDS4{ comment "just produced by tapetype program" length 345151 mbytes filemark 13011472 kbytes speed 1692 kps } I don't know if these data are coherent, they look a bit exagerated, don't they??? > Could you please describe your solution to me? > > Yours, > Bernie > > > Monserrat Seisdedos Nuñez wrote: > > > > > >> > Yes the system is hang. > > > > > > This is not something a user process should be able to > do, ever.
