2014-07-28 Thread Petr Hracek

Dear users,

I would like to migrate on my private RHEL-6 system amanda 2.6.1p2 -> 3.3.3
Do you have any steps for successful migration scenario?

Is there any guide how to do it?

Thank you in advance for any tips.

Compiling amanda with config files on different location

2014-09-05 Thread Petr Hracek

Hello users,

currently now I compile amanda so that configuration are stored
in /etc/amanda/DailySet1 etc.

Is there any possibility to change this location to something like
/var/lib/amanda/CONF

What is configuration directory --with-configdir used for?

Any idea how to solve a this problem.
Or is there any patch for this issue?

Greetings

Can be amanda uninstalled (2.6.p1) and again installed (3.3.3)?

What about configuration file or database changes?

I don't think that's possible. I installed a new machine and just
copied the configuration files over (so no idea about the database files)
but even then there were things I had to tweak which weren't related to
any hardware changes that were made. For example, none of the clients
could be contacted because things default to TCP instead of UDP now. I
made a separate dumptype for those hosts. And the new tape changer
setup required a few tweaks. Nothing major, but not something you could
do as part of an automatic update.

Thanks for the answer.

I don't think that automatic update will work as well.

Config files were changed and I think any advice would be welcome.
Is it documented somewhere?
Like what should be changed in configuration files.

Well, It seems, that I should study configuration 2.6.p1 and 3.3.3
and try to find out what is needed.

setuid bits on some binaries

2013-10-31 Thread Petr Hracek

Hi amanda users,

I have just a tricky question:
I observed that in Fedora we are delivering amanda where some binaries
have setuid bits.

Are the suid bits really needed for amanda working properly?

List of affected binaries is (mode 104750):
/usr/lib/amanda/application/amstar
/usr/lib/amanda/calcsize
/usr/lib/amanda/rundump
/usr/lib/amanda/runtar
/usr/lib/amanda/dumper
/usr/lib/amanda/planner

Is it necessary to have setgid bit on the directory /var/log/amanda?
