[AMRadio] 7360 Mixer info

2003-11-16 Thread DOXEMF
Hello
Looking around for info on the 7360 i found this interesting
site. Some things I never knew...
http://www.analog-rf.com/mixer.shtml

This may answer some questions about mixer design.
BTW the 7360 can still be found and is not too outrageously priced.

Enjoy,
Bill

RE: [AMRadio] FW: Homebrew receiver

2003-11-16 Thread Brett Gazdzinski
Hello all AM,ers.

I somewhat finalized the receiver today, putting the front
panel on, and wiring up all the controls and the digital display.

With the panel on, the reduction drive was in line, but I found
the reduction ratio is not enough, tuning is somewhat touchy, so
I need to add a second drive in line with the first.

Once the tuning is done, it gets assembled, and the controls
marked with the p touch, then it comes apart, and gets clear coat paint.

I finally got to listen to some good strong quality signals on the new
receiver, and it sounds good.
I made quite rapid progress on this receiver, next may be
a good AM transceiver for 40 meters.

Patrick,
Plenty of work, but a lot of fun.

The rig will likely be worth quite a bit when you are done,
maybe pay for retirement!

[AMRadio] Tucker KW progress

2003-11-16 Thread patrick jankowiak
I have been working o that KW I rescued from the scrapyard.

figured out the screen supply wiring that had been cut and the missing
connections for the RF deck, got the bias and screen supplies up,
filament supplies up, figured out keying, inrush limit, HV rectifier
system, and interlocks including the airflow switch. I did discover it
keys in part by turning the 4-1000 screen volts on and off.

still have to:
`replace broken chokes in plate power supply.

`upgrade power supply capacitors.

`remount rectifier sockets a bit lower to have the 575's clear the
variacs with more ease.

`figure out some loose wires connected to some HV resistors.

`recondition modulation transformer ('cook' in a test fixture to heat
it up, drive any moisture out, and then patch a couple places in the
insulation.).

`find some better 304TH's or 304TL's (mine have one filament out).

`find plate and grid caps to fit the 304's

`find a better 4-1000A.

`the turns counters on the dials need attention.

`devise a T/R assy (the original was apparently a relay-based
controller for the rig)

but most of this will be easy as the cut wires in the screen supply
harness were the hardest, several were interlocks or overloads.

I felt very good to put the old 4-1000 in the unit, and being able to
adjust the filament voltage, etc., even if that tube is bad, it still
lights up ok.

The web page is still at:

[AMRadio] Homebrew receiver progress

2003-11-16 Thread Brett Gazdzinski
Hello all AM'ers.
I finished the AGC and wired it to all the stages, I built the
BFO (455Khz xtal oscillator), the S meter amp, and the manual gain
control.
All I have to do is the muting circuit, and labeling the front panel
then painting it with clear paint.

Conditions are still poor on 80 meters, a contest, and I was
busy in the morning when 40 was open...

>From comparisons to other receivers, it seems to work
very well.
