2005-03-03 Thread ronnie.hull

Howdy men
I need a National GS-4 Ceramic insulator. That is 3/4 around and 4 long,
and has one end capped with a little metal hat! That is about the best way I
can describe that LOL

anyway, anyone have one of these little beasts they will part with?

thanks in advance

[AMRadio] FS: BC-221, NC-300, R-7100A, Rane Compressors

2005-03-03 Thread Merz Donald S
For Sale

National NC-300. Good front panel and cabinet. Tuning and band switch work as
they should. No rust or corrosion. Untested. Probably will come right up after
cap reforming. $125

Military BC-221-AH Frequency Meter s/n 5302. This is the nicest and most
complete one of these that I have ever seen. It's in the olive drab wooden case
and comes with the original AC power supply PS-221AC s/n 1893, headset
extension cord and HS-30 headset. Very good or excellent cosmetic condition.
With original manual. A complete set of spare tubes and spare crystal is inside
the unit. The serial number on calibration book matches meter SN. Untested.
As-is. Tubes are 1 6X5, 1 VR150, 2 6SJ7Y and 1 6K8. $35

Icom R-7100A receiver. 25Mhz to 1300Mhz. 900 memories. 20 band edge set points.
All mode. An absolutely incredible receiver in near-mint condition. With AC and
DC power cords and original manual. Like New. $450

Rane DC-24 compressor/limiters. Four to sell. These are dual channel and can be
run as a stereo pair or unlinked. Each channel has full control over attack and
release, gain, etc. Low noise. Compression and limiting controlled separately.
Side chain in and out (typically for equalizer). All in a 1U rack mount. These
used to be the standard of the industry. But age has caught up with them. All
are in working order and have excellent front panels. The cabinets are in good
cosmetic condition with the usual rack scuffs and marks. $100 each.

Thanks for looking.

[AMRadio] ART 13's for sale

2005-03-03 Thread w6om

Due to downsizing of the QTH I am forced to sell some of my beloved boat
anchors.

Three ART 13's cleaned and ready to go with downloaded manuals, power supply
suggestions and some idea's from users with respect to modifications.

These sell on eBay for $250 - $350 and $289.00 at Surplus Sales of Nebraska.

$175.00 firm, first come first served.

Two are virgin, one has several enhancements to the output circuit.

All sitting in my office in Irvine for inspection, purchase and pick up. I
prefer not to ship the ART 13's unless absolutely necessary. We are right
across the street from the Orange County John Wayne Airport about 200 yards off
the 5 Freeway at Mac Arthur.

If shipping is required I will only charge you for the packaging and actual
shipping, no goofy handling charges.

Re: [AMRadio] Insulin Pump RFI?

2005-03-03 Thread Ed Berbari
Gentleman,

The interference problem between RF sources and medical devices is real, but
fortunately a declining one. For many years the medical device industry did
not do a good job in their designs but most devices were in a controlled
enviroment. However the medical devices have moved to the real world with
such devices as pacemakers, etc.

A lot of the intereference has to do with the mode of modulation. The newer
digital phones can actually have peak power outputs of 10-12 Watts and
indeed could cause some problems with devices like pacemakers. This problem
was identified early on and there has been a fix.

However the risk can be real. http://www.ou.edu/engineering/emc/

I asked my brother, a diabetic, about radio interference to his insulin
pump. He is a lawyer, and I hoped to get a legal answer to a hypothetical
case where he went into insulin shock as a result of my being on the air
 waves:

 Question:

  John,

A hypothetical case. Your my neighbor with a
insulin pump, and I am a federally licensed ham radio
operator. I am transmitting within the law on a
licensed frequency, running legal power, etc. Your
pump is susceptible to strong radio waves... One day I
am talking on the air, and while talking, a ambulance
takes you away. Seems your in insulin shock due to a
pump malfunction. Where is the law on this issue?

  Jim

 Answer:

 Jim,

You are a mad man. Actually, from looking at the manual of this thing the
more likely problem is from the pump interfering with other devices using
radio frequencies. The RFs on the pump are used to transmit readings from
a
glucose test meter to the pump. The book says that interference will not
affect the actual pump operation. As to your question the manual says
that
the pump must comply with Part 15 of the FCC rules and it must accept any
interference received. That aside, if I survive in your scenario, look
out!

 John

Side note: If his insulin pump was creating interference, and causing me
trouble receiving the Collins net this Wednesday, would it be appropriate
to
ask my brother to turn that darn thing off? :-)

Thanks Damon

Great to hear from you again. OK, that's two down as Dave W6KL is coming to
the office tomorrow to pick one up and I'll hold the second one for you.

I really hate to part with them but I am just out of room.

All the Best

Hi Ed,
The AMI events are announced on the Wednesday evening West Coast AMI Net.
The last one was at the end of August so expect another one in 5 to 6
months unless someone decides to have a party at the spur of the
moment. I made one at my place about a year and a half ago. It was a
load of fun and got to meet some new AM dudes that I didn't know.

Best regards,
