[AMRadio] 11-pin plug UPDATE
I have 44 Names in the Excel Spreadsheet called "Plugs Database". Over 300 plugs have been spoken for - in fact a few 'adjustments' need to be made because there will be a small underrun the way it is now - no biggie because many asked for a 'range' of items, ie "5-10" and I tried to accomodate everyone's maximum request in the initial accounting. I have 50 small mailing boxes due in, I had hoped this week, but no... so the packing will have to wait until I get them. In most cases, I will ask $5.00 to cover my costs - [materials, counting, packing, sealing, addressing, postage, mailing] that is, you will get a minimum of 5 plugs sent to your mailbox for that amount. And you can think of it as "plugs free, S/H 5 bux" or "Plugs $1 ea, free shippin". I am going to try and figure out how to distill a mailing list from the names in Excell - providing that is successful (and doesn't take twice as long as just finger-boning all the names by hand...) then some time this evening or tomorrow You All will get a confirmation. And, fully half of the Respondents have yet to give me a mailing address, and no, I'm not going to look up 22 names in QRZ and copy all that down... waaay too lazy for that ;} Also, a few folks came from a couple of other relectors, the 'private mailing' will reach them as well. Cheers John KB6SCO

Re: [AMRadio] W4CJL's Taylor Super Modulation
Hi Tom, After scouring the internet for a while now, I still can't find any articles at all on the details of the Taylor circuit. I found an article by Hoisy from AM Press/Exchange where he refers to W6QYT and W3PHL, and the Taylor super-modulated circuit. http://www.amfone.net/AMPX/65.html Scroll down to "The Super Modulation Audio Processing Group" which is a little before the middle of the issue. Villard worked with various modulation techniques, and he is famous for his involvement in the development of amateur SSB. W3PHL Fred used a high level balanced modulator. (Very high level - 600 watts carrier, 2400 watts audio). I think Hoisy was talking about the ability to transmit negative carrier with a high-level modulated stage, and the ability to modulate beyond 100% negative, but he was also talking about negative cycle loading, and he said something about an FCC limit of 2KW PEP per sideband, so the details may not have been entirely accurate. I also found this page: http://glowbug.port5.com/DSB.html Lots of stuff on balanced modulation from way back when. All of the designs seem to be about completely balancing out the carrier, but the QST article references George Grammer's article, "Practical D.S.B.R.C. Transmitter Design" from QST Maym, 1951, which appears to be about an AM-DSB transmitter that can be run at any level of carrier. There is also Fred W3PHLs article "Modulation Unlimited" from around CQ around 1967. I believe it was a two-part article. He was describing the "upside-down tube" high level balanced modulator, which can be unbalanced for carrier output by applying DC along with the audio. W3DUQ and I also used similar circuits way back when, and K1JJ tried one also. [AMRadio] FS: Drake R4
Greetings, I have for sale a Drake R4 receiver. This rx is in excellent physical condition and electrical condition. No dents, dings or scratches. No extra holes. Works great. Covers 160-10 meters (500khz of 10 meters). $300 shipped CONUS or $275 if picked up in Trenton, NJ. Chuckwa2onk
[AMRadio] FS: National NC-45 Receiver, Test Equipment, and Stuff
Here are some items for sale. Prices do not include shipping. I will ship overseas. “Rare” National Radio NC-45.$175 plus shipping This is an 8 tube receiver made from 1941-1945 covering 550 kHz to 30 MHz. Most models made were made the NC-45 which is an ac/dc receiver. The NC-45A has a transformer operated power supply. This radio does work and receives signals on all bands but it really need to be recapped and aligned. Cosmetically OK but also needs to be cleaned up. It has all of the correct knobs and I do not find any extra holes. The insides look OK but also need to be cleaned up. One interesting thing that I noticed is that the main tuning and bandspread knobs are both weighted, rather heavy and appear to have come from the factory that way. I do not have a manual but they are available from several sources on the web. I will include a schematic. http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/nc45rcvr.JPG http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/nc45rcvr4.JPG http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/nc45rcvr6.JPG Sylvania Electric Type 134 Polymeter VTVM...$25 plus shipping The unit is working but needs calibration on the resistance scales. It has the capability of measuring RF voltage. It does not include test leads or a manual. Manuals are available from a number of sources on the Internet. http://members.cox.net/radiostuff9/sylvania_vtvm.JPG Jackson Model 640 Signal Generator$50 plus shipping I have two of these units. This is a well built, internally shielded signal generator that covers 100 kHz to 38 MHz in six bands. This unit will put out an internally modulated signal as well as a CW signal. It also has switchable output levels and adjustable output. I have the matching capacitance meter up for bid on another auction. This unit works well. I opened the unit up, de-oxed all of the switches and tested all tubes. The tubes all test very strong. http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/jackson_siggen.JPG Allied Knight Meter - new in the box..$18 plus shipping http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/knight_meter.JPG http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/knight_meter2.JPG Emico 0-30 mA Meter new in the box$12 Used on some boatanchor transmitters http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/emico0_30.JPG Emico 0-50 mA Meter new in the box$12 Used on some boatanchor transmitters http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/emico0_50.JPG Emico 0-100 mA Meter new in the box$12 Used on some boatanchor transmitters http://members.cox.net/radiodx3/emico0_100.JPG Realistic DX-440 AM FM Short Wave Portable Receiver...$90 plus shipping A real nice DX-440 All Band Portable Receiver with the original box and the instruction manual.
