The RCA BTA-5xx is essentially the size of two BTA-1R's bolted
together. The cabinets do separate so would fit in 2 pickups with
still room for the removed iron.

a 1R1 hauls easily in a Ford F250.

And Bob is well aware, having helped disassemble and load a Raytheon
RA-1000 into a Ranger pickup *and* Wells Cargo trailer. Only a 1 KW
rig at that (albeit one of the larger ones). A mere 2300 pounds if you
don't count the spare iron. It handled the weight, but it was fully
loaded and then some. Even the 300G, a 250 watter, would be a pickup
load plus at 1370 pounds!

I hope someone saves it, and that whoever does has a very clear
understanding of what they're getting into *before* they get there.
This comes from someone who has moved several large transmitters,
thought he was prepared, and found surprises each time. It's a whooole
lot different than moving a BC-610 or your average relay rack full of
gear.

Whew!...how could I forget! I think some of these old transmitters "grow a
few pounds" just before you go to move them.

Todd, hope all is well on your side of the state line and keeping the snow to
a minimum there.

[BTW, I think that old 10kw generator is still sitting "there" and like you,
wish there was a feasible way to transport that thing. My neighbors would be
very jealous the first time the electricity went out in the village -grin-.]

Hi David,

Try www.freecycle.org which is a community-based organization to help people
recyle their goods. You sign up for a list that is geographically near you
and then post a "NEED:" email just like this one. If someone has one that is
surplus to their needs, they email you.

The rule is no $$$ can exchange hands. It's an excellent way to help someone
else and also clean out the stuff from your garage you no longer need. We
gotten rid of some furniture, linens, clothes, kitchen stuff. Felt good to
give it to someone who could use it.

Every few months I post an email saying that I restore old radios and TVs. A
few months back I was given a SB-300/SB-401 combo. You never know... someone
may have a Globe King or Collins that they want out of their attic.

[AMRadio] Lindsay Publications

2006-03-20 Thread charles free
Hello,

I think one or two of you out there have mentioned
Lindsay Publications before, but since I saw several
posts about transformers, I thought somebody might
find this interesting.

Lindsay, which of course reprints old books and
articles, has a compilation of several years of
Thordarson transformers. They are advertising this as
covering 6 different years in the '30's, along with
circuit schematics for various projects. Book number
is 22431 and the cost is $11.95, not including
shipping.

They also carry reprints of many articles on building
ham gear from crystal sets up to the 1950's. I
suggested they might reprint the old CQ Military
Surplus Conversion book, but no luck yet.

Their reprints are top quality, and not zeroxed copies
of old text.

Check out their site at www.lindsaybks.com

been formed by a few volunteers in our community. This group is working on
a very tight budget so if you have one of these devices no matter the
condition as long as a coach can get these kids attention, so to speak,
your support would be most appreciated.

The group will pay for shipping and a small donation to your coffee fund.
