I went back to 10 CW and 5's were strong, I heard a weak KH6 (think it was KH6RZ ), and several K6's were heard (also weak). I'll try again tomorrow. 73 Mark K3MSB On 5/27/06, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In a message dated 5/27/06 4:05:00 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Called CQ quite a few times between 2230 and 2300 today (Saturday). etc., etc. Not hearing anything on 10M out this way. [AMRadio] Another Good Day for 10 Meters?
at 6:45 AM central time on Sunday morning, the cw beacon band has at least a dozen beacons. I'm hearing as close as Raleigh, NC, and as far away as Onterio into my Mississippi qth. I'll return from church near 10 AM, and will then have a rig sitting on 29.0 for the remainder of the day. This will also be a good day to try short skip conditions on 15 meters too. [AMRadio] 6 10 meter qsos this morning
Since returning from church, 10 has been busy around 29.0. I've had 6 qsos, as far up the band as 29.050. Keep those AM rigs running. Mike Duke, K5XU American Council of Blind Radio Amateurs
Re: [AMRadio] 10 Meters
Both 6 and 10 meters were hot Saturday evening here in NJ. 6M SSB stations were heard and worked all the way up to 50.25, mostly from the central and southern states. Could not raise anyone on 6M AM. On 10M, heard several AM QSO's after 8PM EDST, mostly 5 stations working 4's and 3's. Heard a few SSB stations but most of the activity was down in the CW section for the contest. Most, if not all of this activity, probably was attributed to Sporadic E ionization. MUF never got anywhere near 28 MHz. Re: [AMRadio] BTA Mods
I have found traces cut and spliced to other traces, a small variable capacitor replacing a compression trimmer Perhaps someone needed more capacitance to net the crystal on frequency... and two of the three crystal sockets more or less taken out of use Perhaps someone cut out the Conelrad crystal switching... Re: [AMRadio] BTA Mods
I have 2 RCA rigs. a BTA 500R and a BTA 1R1 Neither Rig worked well On 75 meters. so I put them on 160. The very first thing I would Do after determining If the Rig works on its origonal frequency. I would replace Every Resistor and cap on the Exciter board Less than $50 to do this. makes the oscilator back to New tolerance. and will be stable. Neal-ka2caf __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? [AMRadio] Double Hop E Skip on 10
I'm now hearing both Oklahoma and Phoenix on 10 meter ssb. I'm still listening on 29.0 just in case other AM signals appear. The count thus far todayis 7 completed contacts. Mike Duke, K5XU American Council of Blind Radio Amateurs

Re: [AMRadio] BTA 1R1 on higher bands
Hello John To start with Ill tell you a little about me. I am a broadcast Engineer and maintain Mostly AM stations. Actually the Company I work for has 55 AM stations. I also work for a consultant as a field Engineer.and have retuned many rigs to new frequencies. The Problem I found with the RCA is the output Network. I for one like to keep the Broadcast Rigs as close to origonal as possible. For 160 Meters with the RCA BTA series. all you really need to do is remove one Cap and then change the Taps on the Coils. no other mods are needed. However to move the Rig to 75 meters. it can Be done but you have to Build an entirly New output network. I am not saying It cannot Be Done. I feel the Rig has more Value if kept close to Factory origonal. The guy who had My BTA 500r before me attempted to do just as the above. He rebuilt the output network I checked his work. seemed ok,but the rig ran into oscilations and Eventually smoked.. I bought the transmitter and rebuilt the origonal network fixed a few smoked Items.replaced all the caps and resistors in the oscilator board. Tuned the ouput with the Slider can Cap in the Coil the RCA stock tuning to Center. to 1.885 Turned on the AC and the rig came back to life. If you goto my calls KA2CAF in QRZ.com I have links to this particular transmitter also My Collins 300G and my Gates BC-1H1 Neal --- John Lawson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Sun, 28 May 2006, neal Newman wrote: Neither Rig worked well On 75 meters. Re: [AMRadio] BTA Mods
Thanks for the tips, Neal. What seemed to be the problem with getting them on 75? My goal is 3.880 thru 3.890, so I would be very interested in any experience you can share. I am now in the process of refurbishing the oscillator board, but I have to wait until the R2 schematic arrives before I can go much further. Re: [AMRadio] BTA Mods
Hi Rick No matter what I tried to Fix what was done to this transmitter. It would Put out Spurs all over the place. Yes It got to 75 meters...looking at the spectrum analyzer It was all over the place. these spurs were causing High currents and arcing. in the output Network. self oscillations the transmitter was what I call a Runaway. you Could pull out the crystal and it would still deliver full output Not a Good sign.. thats when I decided to Build the output network back to the RCA design. and try 160 meters.. it worked first shot. Clean spectral. If you like to Tinker with High voltages and networks. and not worried about Blowing out coils. Cool Go for it. I would recommend you put a spectrum analyzer on it when your Done. best to cover your butt.. and If you Do get a clean Output on 75 meters. Let me know Ill try it on another Rig I just picked up.. Now I know the Gates BC-1H can go to 75 meters I know one down south where its a dual bander it does 75 and 160 meters. going through a Divorce right now. so eventually Ill get to working on the Gates.. --- Rick Brashear [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: .
