Let me add that a 6L6GC is rated at higher voltage and I suppose the 5881
military 6L6 is rated for more volts and would make a dandy substitue for
the 1614.. 73 Mike

Re: [AMRadio] 6L6 or 1614

2006-10-27 Thread Mike Dorworth, K4XM
A 6L6 in any book is listed at 360 volts Maximum. The 1614 is listed at 550
volts ICAS and, of course, the unmodified Ranger uses 550 Volts DC on the
final and modulator. We once had a post that the 1614 is really only a
selected for high voltage service 6L6 and it sounds reasonable to me. In
fact, the 1614 is listed as a RF Transmitting tube in the RCA Transmitting
tube manuals but, alas, the 6l6 is not. Use what you got. 73 Mike

Both will work in a Johnson Ranger and no doubt the 1614 is the better
choice, but does anyone have facts as to the feasibility of using the

Any thoughts?

Try 6550 or KT88 used them for over 20 years never damaged or harmed any

2006-10-27 Thread uvcm inc.

I'm going to pick up a Gates BC-1H in November. Does anyone know the
dimensions and weight for this transmitter? I've moved two other broadcast
transmitters (both Collins), but I've heard that this transmitter may be a
lot heavier, so I want to be prepared with the correct moving equipment.

Thanks and 73,
Clay W7CE

The BC1 H is close to the size of the T and G will fit through a door with
hinges off, weight appx 900 LB, Take off all the outside panels, and heavy
trans (3), makes it much easer to move
My BC1G I put upstairs in my home, I used a fire truck to fly it in through
the upstairs balcony.
Have pictures if interested.
That was easy compared to moving my RCA BTA5F 18 feet long 10,000 lbs
