[AMRadio] Where ELSE would you be?
If you weren't on the air, then you was in the wrong damn place! We were on 75 *and* 80m phone, tonight! For this momentous occasion, Otis/K5SWK was on from John/WA5BXO and BJ's/WB5KD hamshack. There was W5AMI, KA5RHK, N5ECP, WD5JKO, Otis 'n them, and me, mobile on my way home, on 3.880 till around 11pm. I got home around 10:30pm - got on the big rig here at 10:40pm, and fired up on 3.880Mc. At 11pm, we moved on down to 3.650 and worked W5TOP, WA5FRF, AD5HR, WA5BXO/K5SWK/WB5PKD, W7FG, W5I(WD5BZO), K5SOH and WB5UGT on 75m phone. I tuned around afterwards and worked K4KYV, K2VXV, W9GOB and W9AD on 3.705. There was another AM QSO on 3.625, but didn't stick around to work them. I went to bed at 9:30 last night, and got up at 3am to go pee. Back up at 5:45am, had breakfast, went to class, got outta there at 3:15, drove from Houston to Round Rock, picked up an AR-88 receiver, and then drove home to San Antonio. Long day, but happy band! :-) -- Driving your AM Rig without a scope, is like driving your car at night, without headlights. Re: [AMRadio] Band Expansion Report
Lots of signal grass (AM and SSB) developed between 3600 and 3800 at the start of the bell. By 1AM EST, many of the stations and much of the auroral conditions disappeared. Between 8 and 11 aurora was very prominent on 6 meters. Worked a number of stateside stations and almost all Canadian provinces pointing the antenna North and working through the aurora. My grins for the evening. [AMRadio] Band Expansion Report
The band expansion from 3600 to 3700 was "wall to wall" with stations, mostly SSB. I made several contacts on 3685 but decided that my warm bed at home was more conforting than to spend the time battling the QRM. The band was certainly rock 'n rollin. We were using the special call W3C. It is an experience that I can tell my grandchildren. See you on the lower end of 80 meters or is that 75 meters! Good evening. [AMRadio] Band Warming Signals
The ones I can hear sound really good, but the aurora is killing most signals here in Mississippi. The strongest is a Colorado station on 3680. Good old solar flare :-) I remember one solar storm years ago when I was on 40m SSB from Ohio during the day (in the winter, must have been ditching school hamming) and everything faded out over the course of several minutes, dead quiet. Then one signal popped up perhaps S3-4, and I listened as two stations in a town in Brazil talked to each other on ground wave. Weird! That's quite amazing for 40m in the daytime...
