[AMRadio] DX 60 mods

2010-07-02 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
It looks like most people say leave it stock. Maybe I will do that and save
the modulator for my home brew rig.
Listen to the am net on 75 last Wed night. What other nets or activity is
regularly on that can I get on from the left coast?

[AMRadio] DX 60 mods

2010-07-02 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
I have my DX 60 now working properly in a stock condition. It is a fairly
clean radio inside and out, but I'm not concerened about modifying it. I
would like to keep from drilling holes in the front panel but will if
necesarry. I have come across 3 different audio mods on the net. They are
the WC3K mod, KS3K mod, and the K4TLJ mod. In the groups opinon wich is the
best one to use?

Maybe it is none of the above and I should just go ahead and plate moulate
it. I do have a 35 watt plat modulator that I built some time ago and it
has a universal modulation transformer.
I plan on using a D104 mike, and have a National 300 for a recevier.

Thanks.

[AMRadio] (no subject)

2010-05-17 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
I'm in the process of building a 75 meter receiver and need a power
transformer. I can work around any filament arraingment but need a
secondary AC voltage around 175 volts at 100ma. A 350 vt center tap would be
ideal. I can run a full wave bridge or CT to end up with 250 VDC. Also a 90
volt ac transformer could be used as a doubler. What you got? Please reply
off list.

[AMRadio] Modulator question.

2010-05-07 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
I have over the years built several low power AM transmitters. I would like
to build something a little bigger say in the 400-500 watt plate modulated.
I have been kicking around the idea of using one of the solid state
amplifiers made for car audio driving a reverse connected audio transformer.
I have seen these audio output transformers available in the 200 watt range.
I understand that the RF output stage would have to be designed to fit the
impedence of the output transformer. Does this sound like it could be done?

Flashing copper can be purchased at any sheet metal shop or roofing company
without the asphalt backing and a lot cheaper.

  Subject: Re: [AMRadio] copper sheet

I have found an interesting source of copper sheet, Carter lumber carries
copper flashing in widths of 10 and 12 inches, 20 feet long, It does have a
backing of asphaltic paper that can be removed easily by loosening the roll
and soaking in kerosene of diesel for a while, let it set for a day or too
if not in a hurry. great for tube connections, etc. I am actually going to
use it over the surface of a chassis. I have always wondered about the long
term effects of bolted connections to just the plain aluminum. It is not
cheap, $59 a roll for the 12 inch, but this is a lifetime supply and much
cheaper tan any other source I have found.

A second use is that it can be easily formed to ones head, be sure to shave
all the hair off first and apply the asphalt/ kero mix that was sloughed off
when you removed the paper backing, you did save it, didn't you? works
great for keeping out the govt EM signals to control the population and the
added copper in ones system keeps 117.5 % of disease away. The extra 17.5 %
is because the people near you catch something.

I have also been able to isolate the source/ sources of the low frequency
hum in my area after many years of study. as has been stated it seems to
emanate from everywhere, however that is not true when the scale is reduced
to only inches, It was observed that the hum is louder at night and during
the winter months. Using very large crystals, that I was able to grow, and
wrapped with the same copper, I found that hibernating wood chucks and to a
lesser extent ground squirrels are snoring and that is the source!

Pear reviewed documents will appear shortly on the internet regarding this
discovery. A side discovery with the large crystals suggests that when
placed in a particular pattern they can collect the energy of the universe.
This has been somewhat slowed by the complete disassociation of the
molecules in the crystals when approaching the " resonate" pattern. Research
continues on this work with Dr. Pear, a significant government stimulus is
expected shortly and upon receipt the program will be greatly expanded with
crystals remaining in central Ohio and others in Australia and Argentina.
  watch the skies! Bernie W8RPW

If you this this was long, talk ( try) to me on AM sometime!!

[AMRadio] Gonset communicator

2009-06-03 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
Somewere out there someone has got Gonset communicator documentation. I have
used all the sourses I can find on the internet such as Bama, manual
suppliers, CD's, and what have you. I'm working on a six meter
communicator, It does not say one two or 3 on the front, but is an early
model that uses screw driver adjustments for all the tuning controls on the
front. I have 2 of these complete. Both appear to be pretty much the same
and use a subminature pencil tube that is refered to in some of the
docummentation but not in any of the schematics. It is a 6bg7 and appears to
be in the Squelch circuit, the area that is not working correctly. On the
schematics I have they show this being a 9002 tube.

Someone must have the correct docummentation for these as I own 2 of them
both being purchased in different parts of the country.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[AMRadio] ^ meter gonset

2009-05-12 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
I guess I was not real clear in my early request on docummemtation for a
Communicator 6 meter radio I'm working on.

I know how to use Bama, and how to download files. It is difficult at times
for me to do it as my MSN does't like to go there. I also have the viewers
required.

The problem is I need a schematic for a six meter gonset that is not the one
that is on the Bama site. I thought that there may be a Gonset guru out ther
that may know what I need that fits the model I have.

Thanks for all the replys.

[AMRadio] Gonset 6 meter radio

2009-05-12 Thread RICHARD GEORGE
I'm in the process of trying to bring back to life a Gonset Communicator. It
is the early one with only one xtal socket in the front I'm not sure if this
is what you call a communicator or a communicator one. It is the 6 meter 12
volt version. I have a schematic for a 6 volt version but find it different
in many areas. For instance the one I have uses a sub minature peanut tube
a 6BG7 and a 9T8 tube in the reciever. At first I thought the 9T8 tube was a
mistake but it may be used because of the filament voltage in series with
the 6BG7 tube. What I could use is a good copy of a schematic for my
version. I have tried BAMA but for some reason I can never down load
anything from that site. I do notice they have a six meter version listed
but not sure if this is the correct one.

Any body got one? I will pay costs.

With the cost of shipping so high today it would be nice if when someone
lists and item for sale they put were the item is located. Sometimes an
item for sale at $100.00 is a great buy but not if you will have to pay
$100.00 shipping.

Hey Rick
Put a 300 ohm resistor in series with the bottom leg of you parallel
resistors then probe across the 300 ohm there will be about 1/10 the voltage
therefore safer for you and the scope. 100 Watts into 3000 ohms would mean
about 547 volts RMS (about 1320 volts peak to peak) across the whole load
but only about 54 volts RMS (132 volts peak to peak) across the 300 ohm.

How does one test a modulator. I will soon have a modulator capable of
around 100 watts of audio. I know that I do not want to run the secondary of

the transformer unloaded. Would it be OK to make dummy load out of a bunch
of parallel connected 3 watt resistors, say about 60 watts worth at the dc
resistance I will be looking at (3000 ohms).
I know that this would only be good for short tests using my O scope and
audio gen. Any better ways.

I ran a lot of VHF AM back in the day, but only at 5 - 10 watt levels.
