[AMRadio] Dayton Hamvention - My Stuff

2008-05-13 Thread Peter Markavage
If you're heading to the Dayton Hamvention, stop by outside spaces
1960-1961 and say hello.

Items that I'm bringing to find new homes include National NC-303 with
matching speaker and crystal calibrator, Hallicrafters, SX-99, Icom
IC-229A, Icom IC-720A with matching power supply and mike, rather rare
Squires Sanders monitor including the engineering drawings (1 of 8 models
built in their shop), several Command set receivers and several boxes of
Command Set parts, 2 Polycomm 23 transceivers, RCA AR-8712 RDF (art deco
style), Swan 250 noise blanker, Henry Radio transceiver, Lafayette
RD-D600 (still in the box) 3 head recorder, several audio filters,
several pieces of test equipment, several cartons of tubes (most .50 to
$1.00, some at $2), lots of parts, "Nifty" reference guides, and all
16,000 plus manuals will be at special pricing and free shipping. I'm
doing this from memory so I probably missed a few items that were packed
several days ago.

See you all there

For whatever reason, our Dayton packet arrived and we discovered that we
have been moved to 2325-2326 rather than at spaces 2317-2318 where we have
been for years.

Please take note so you we don't miss seeing you.

Be sure to attend the Collins Forum, sponsored by the CRA, in Room 5,
Saturday, May 20th, beginning at 1:30 PM

The CRA will have a nice program focusing on Collins.

Also the CRA's outdoor vendor spots are 2317-2318, just down from the
hamburger tent. Watch for the Collins Banner on a silver Pontiac.

I will be bringing some Collins parts, etc. If you need any Collins
reproduction items from Advanced Optics Ltd., please be sure to let me know
ahead of time.

On the way back, you might want to stop by the Collins Radio Center/Museum
near Johnstown, PA

If you are looking for something in the way of transmitting tubes, large air
capacitors, etc., also let me know so I can pack them.

Stop by and say hello. Have a safe and enjoyable trip and be sure to bring
some sun blocker and a rain coat!!

Re: [AMRadio] Dayton Hamvention 2005

2004-11-17 Thread Donald Chester

The original date for Dayton was the 3rd weekend in April. It might have
been snowed on and was often unseasonably cold, but it hardly ever got
rained out. I remember in the mid 70's one of their brochures promoting
the hamfest made it a point to claim that in 22 years, it had been rained
out only twice.

Then some genius decided to move the event to one week later, the last
weekend in April. Almost every year after that, it got rained out. I think
in was something like five rainouts in seven years. I attended several
years in a row in the midst of rain, and each time the locals said that the
week before the weather had been dry, and would have been a good weekend for
the hamfest.

Finally, they moved it to mid-May. The weather has been wamer, but it still
seems to get rained out more often than at the old date of the 3rd weekend
in April.

Holding Dayton a week later? Isn't that the start of hurricane season?

It isn't really a Dayton Hamvention unless there's rain at least one day.
Back in the early 90's, when it was held in April, I remember two days of
rain and Sunday with snow flurries. Hopefully, I'll be at my same spots
again this year.

Thank you and I do hope that the weather will cooperate.
Did you notice that they are holding it a week later?

We will have an excellent program as usual. I believe that this is our 7
Collins Forum or is it 8!

See you there and please tell your friends about the Collins Forum. I
assume that it will be on a Friday morning.
