[AMRadio] For Sale: HB linear amp and power supply components

2008-05-04 Thread Edward B Richards
2 years ago I built a 1 kw linear amplifier patterned after the Heathkit
KL-1. A pair of 4-400 tubes in parallel. Except for some minor changes,
it is a KL-1. I laid out the parts mostly in the same places and put the
shields/dividers in the same places. Since I am not into CW, I left out
some of the CW circuitry. However, it could easily be put in. Since I
intended to drive it with a 100 watt transceiver, I used the input
swamping circuit rather than the tuned input circuitry. I added an unun
to better match the 50 ohm transceiver to the 4-400's grids. It runs
class AB-1. I used 4 meters. I bought some aluminum sheet and had a local
shop bend up a chassis and 2 dividers (have pix). I used a piece of 1/8"
aluminum for the front panel (have pix). It is installed in a Heathkit
DX-100 cabinet. I have pix of the front and back. It really looks cool.
Write me if you would like pixs and a schematic diagram. It comes with
all my notes and an original Heathkit KL-1 manual.

Due to bad health, I will never build the power supply to go with it. I
have 90% of the parts for a power supply and 100% of the expensive parts,
including a roll-around cabinet, a plate transformer, bridge rectifier,
choke and HV capacitor for a 3kv plate supply and the transformer, choke,
HV capacitor for a 1.2 kv screen supply. I was going to use 2 power
supplies so I could put the plate current meter in the ground circuit of
the bridge rectifier rather than use Heathkit's method of bringing the 3
kv up to a front panel meter. Also, there are line cord, Millen HV
connectors, relays, fans, 20A circuit breakers, 240 VAC 20A line filter,
misc ceramic feed-throughs, stand-offs, low voltage connectors, etc.

Now the important stuff. I will take $500 for either the amplifier or the
power supply components, or $750 for both. I cannot ship it, so it is
pick-up in Simi Valley, CA or you make all the arrangements to have it
picked up, packed and shipped. Thank you.

[AMRadio] FOR SALE: Multi-Elmac AF-68 & PS2-V Power Supply

2008-02-29 Thread JT Croteau
Selling separately or as a combo. I'm selling so I can build up
something with a little more power (probably start working on my
Class-E rig again).

AF-68 - Very nice and complete, purchased from an estate sale a few
weeks ago. It has some chassis damage on the lower right corner but
otherwise very clean. Top of the deck needs cleaning however.
Modulator bias battery was removed by the previous owner and wired to
the unused pin on the power connector. I was going to replace this
with the more common Zener diode mod but never got that far. I have
two brand new Sovtek 6L6GB's that I will be including with the rig.
The Sylvania tubes that came with the rig arrived with cracked bases.

PS-2V - This is the matching power supply for the AF-67 or AF68 and
works perfectly without a spec of dirt anywhere on the chassis. The
optional relay circuit to engage HV when PTT is engaged has been wired
in and working fine. Includes cable assembly for AF-67 or AF-68 rigs.
I have wired it for the rig but the harness has no provision for
external bias supply as I was going to remove the mod to get the power
from the unused pin.

Pics:

AF-68 - http://n1ese.qrpradio.com/Elmac/AF-68/

PS-2V Pics - These are not recent pictures, these were taken when I
bought the unit. I have since removed the wrongly implemented relay
circuit and extra transformer that was strapped on the top.

http://n1ese.qrpradio.com/Elmac/PS-2V-2.jpg
http://n1ese.qrpradio.com/Elmac/PS-2V-5.jpg

Prices include ground shipping in the CONUS:

AF-68 - $135.00
PS-2V - $175.00
COMBO - $280.00

PLEASE REPLY DIRECT - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me remind you once again to reply to these ads OFF LIST.You can
reply direct by hitting the reply button which will then give you the
header of the person who sent the message. Copy that persons email
address into the TO field and delete the AM Radio address.

Then send the message. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated and

prevent headaches for those of us who moderate the list. This simple
action will prevent the archives from being so long and difficult to
search.

Another thing you can do, which we have not INSISTED you do is delete
the header and footer of each message you reply to on the reflector.
There really is no need to see the footer or header 2 or 3 times in a
reply.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, IT IS ALMOST OUT OF HAND.

[AMRadio] For Sale/Wanted/Trade ads

2008-02-17 Thread Jim Wilhite
Ladies and Gentlemen let me remind you, if you run an ad for anything,
put your contact information in the ad and ask that anyone who responds
to your ad to contact you off list.

This will help keep the archives size down which saves space and
everyone won't have to wade through messages that do not discuss a
topic. We have enough traffic to read as it is. It will also reduce
search time when reading the digest mode and searching the archives for
a message.

To those of you who joined recently, please read the list rules. You
will find a link at the bottom of each message that will direct you to
the site.

Your help will be appreciated

[AMRadio] FOR SALE ADS & REPLIES TO THEM ON THIS LIST!

2008-02-01 Thread A.R.S. - WA5AM
First off; to the SELLERS on this list:

Post your email address to allow people to reply directly to you for
your sales. This is a private list, and even the archives protect
your email address. If you (the sellers) have a problem with someone
getting your email address, then find another way to sell your items,
as this email list does not disclose your address to anyone other than
the members.

AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE ... WE HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH FOR SALE ADS ON THIS
LIST, HOWEVER IF YOU POST AN ITEM FOR SALE, STATE THAT ANY REPLIES ARE
TO BE DONE DIRECTLY TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.

This thing has gone on too damn long. People reply saying they want
this or that from someone that posts a list of items, not to mention
the person (in a lot of cases) copies the entire list from the
original back to the list ALL OVER AGAIN!!

There is an FAQ of rules anyone on this list can view at the bottom of
each and every message posted here. Please read it.

>From this point forward, the moderators of this list will remove
anyone that posts a FOR SALE AD without the proper statement telling
any potential buyers (or simple questions about something they want to
buy) to contact them privately, and placing a valid email address
embedded in the AD to respond to. So the buyer can just click on it.

IF a SELLER complies with the above, and an interested party for any
of his his items posts BACK to this list, things like "I'll take it",
or "can you send me a picture?", then YOU WILL be removed fro this
list. PERIOD. 500 members do not care about what you want to buy
from a seller, nor if you want to see some photos, etc., etc It
costs a lot of bandwidth to send out each and every message on this
list regardless of how short it may be.

This has been a problem for a long time, and I guess there is no other
way to solve it. We (myself and others) have posted messages here
over and over about this, and there are obviously a lot of you that
don't read them, or just don't give a crap.

If you are removed due to this, and you have time to think about some
simple rules we have here, come on back after 30 days and we will give
you due consideration..

Thanks,
wa5am

Jensen Speechmaster speakers (three). These are 1930s-40s vintage speakers in
bullet-shaped housings. They were used by hams instead of matching receiver
speakers. Their frequency response is perfect for CW and AM. One of these is
natural finish with a weighted teardrop base, another has the weighted base but
is a light green powdercoat. The third one is the oldest. Its on a wooden stand
and the natural finish grille has some surface rust spots. Also, it has a
volume control which I believe is a modification. These are 4 or 8 ohm dynamic
speakers. Very cool accessories for the cintage ham shack. $65 for all 3.

Ten-Tec Corsair (the original Corsair with the dark front panel) HF Transceiver
with Ten-Tec PS and original manuals. This has one bad pull-out RF power
switch. But unles youre planning to run low power, you would never use the
switch. Otherwise works fine. With original manuals, hand mic and paperwork.
$275

Heathkit SB-630 station console. Matches the 301/401 etc. Beautiful shape and
working well--even the clock works. $75

Homebrew 80 meter VFO. Some genius stripped a Heathkit Tener lunchbox and built
an 80M VFO on the carcass. The VFO is nicely made using 2 minitature tubes. It
works well and is stable. No cabinet. $39

National Rackmount HRO with rack, coil cabinet, power supply and speaker. This
is an early pre-war HRO, about 1936. It has 9 Coils: 50-100kc, 100-200kc,
175-400kc, .5-1.0mc, .9-2.0mc, 1.7-4.0mc, 3.5-7.3mc, 7.0-14.4mc,14.0-30mc, with
a wooden coil box for 3 coils. This has been repainted with Krylon satin black.
The original crackle shows through pretty well and it doesnt look bad at all.
The receiver is untested. The speaker was re-coned by Jackson speaker service.
The Power supply was restored and tested by me in 2001. This is currently in an
Altec PA system rack which is too small to include the power supply.
Alternatively, I can supply an open-back black wrinkle desktop rack for it--but
it is also too small to hold all the components. With
Original of newer HRO manual and Photocopy of older style.
TUBES:
4-58 or 6D6
3-57 OR 6C6
1-2B7 OR 6B7
1-2A5 OR 42
$400 complete with all coils and coil box.

Heathkit HO-10 monitor scope parts unit. Power transformer has been removed.
Otherwise complete. Scratches on cabinet. $35

[AMRadio] For Sale: DX-60B

2007-11-21 Thread JT Croteau
Selling a DX-60B - this is was obtained from the collection of W1AC as
part of a trade deal. I haven't tried using the rig, but here is what
I know:

The Good:
Looks complete, sans some wrong knobs

The Bad:
One electrolytic appears to be leaky, see the pics. The cap is wet.
One crystal socket slightly broken, a crystal still fits though.

The Ugly:
Dirty!
Some wrong knobs, see the pics
Front panel is bent slightly, lower right

Hi-Resolution pics here:
http://n1ese.qrpradio.com/DX-60B/

I think it has potential for restoration. I will also include a 7290
crystal and a 6M fundamental crystal.

I'd like $60 plus shipping. Email direct if interested, PayPal
preferred but will also accept a money order.

Right on! One beautiful thing about free trade is... well, it's free.
Neither the buyer nor seller is coerced into the transaction; if agreement
can't be found on a price, no transaction takes place. And there's no need
for ill feelings on either side, it just means there's a difference of
opinion in what the item is worth to each party - which happens all the
time! Neither party is "right," or "wrong."

Ultimately the item's price is no one's business except for the seller and
buyer.

Re: [AMRadio] For Sale: Knight T-150

2007-11-14 Thread jeremy-ca
If that was a R-42 speaker you paid a fairly average price for a very nice
pair. The SX-42 was built 1946-1950. I have its son, the SX-62A with the
R-42 and it is a super BCB, AM SW and FM performer. What audio; pretty much
the same circuit as the SX-42 minus bandspread and S meter. It is a daily
player in my office.

I also have a SX-28 so I still need to fill the big radio/audio sequence
with a SX-42. Did you know that the external design was done by Ray Loewy?
The same guy who gave us the 1953 Studebaker Starlite Coupe; an automotive
milestone.

shipping on top of that...
You don't want to know what I paid for my DX100B...LOL ...It is called
we buy what we want.
I am sure that an SX42 cost more then $100 in 1938 What is that in
today's $$...

RE: [AMRadio] For Sale: Knight T-150

2007-11-14 Thread Bob Peters
Bob I agree but I just paid over $500 for an SX-42 and speaker with
shipping on top of that...
You don't want to know what I paid for my DX100B...LOL ...It is called
we buy what we want.
I am sure that an SX42 cost more then $100 in 1938 What is that in
today's $$...

[AMRadio] For Sale: Heathkit Warrior Front Panel

2007-11-14 Thread JT Croteau
If anyone needs a front panel from a Warrior, I have one I'll send out
for the shipping costs. Part of a recent trade included a Warrior
chassis with just the panel and a meter. Someone already claimed the
meter and I am keeping the rack deck for a future project. But this
front panel is free sans the shipping cost to anyone who could benefit
from it. It will need some cleaning as there is a good amount of
nicotine on it. What is it with boatanchors covered with nicotine
usually? Did OF's just sit there next to their rigs chain smoking all
day?

Re: [AMRadio] For Sale: Knight T-150

2007-11-14 Thread Jim Wilhite
I have picked this particular post to illustrate what Brian said.
Please guys, do not get personal with ANY posts. List Rules (must
read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html

It is imperative that we all devote our time to improving AM radio and
its constituents, promote constructive comments and remember that what
you write sounds different than what you speak. I feel no harm was
intended to anyone, but let's try to help everyone on the list. It is
nice that the original poster put the equipment here first and that is
what we want. Should you not agree with the price, dicker with him.

Let's keep the noise factor at a low level. I picked this post to
illustrate the entire conversation, not point to it in particular.

Why is it everytime someone has something to say that doesn't seem
coincide with your though process, you make a comment like the one
below and then solicit comments from some of your other cronies! If
he wants $225 maybe someone wants one of these radios really bad for

I haven't been around boatanchors long enough to know what "fair"
market value is on a lot of this stuff and tend to set my prices based
on what I see posted on QRZ, eGay, reflectors, and QTH.com. My
original asking price was also based on recent shipping costs on some
things I have sold recently. UPS and FedEx fees are crazy lately.
The T-60 I listed the other day cost $46 to ship before I bought
packing materials.

Bringing an item to the UPS counter is guaranteed to give you a shock. Plus
the rates go up weekly as the bean counters add in fuel surcharges and
constantly changing fees to rural Zip Codes and others that dont maintain
full week to week local delivery truck routes.
I buy/sell boatanchors as well as convert HF amps to 6M for customers so Im
always dealing with heavy items. Driving to Nashua became a pain so I got my
own account, it costs me $8 a week and is an instant payback. The discount
from the counter rates is huge. A SB-220 to the West Coast for instance runs
$35-40; thats a 60# box.

FedWrex rates are usually within pennies of UPS, do you smell price fixing?

Check out Bel-Nor in Hudson 889-7577, they have decent prices on boxes and
other packing material. Sometimes real deals on odd lots or cancelled items.
Also DusoBox , 978-372-7192, over in Haverhill, MA. I get all my hard foam
free from several sources.

When shipping 50 to 60 year old radios cross

country, I don't like to use recycled materials. I've since resorted
to set my asking prices to include shipping. I'm tired of estimating
shipping and coming out on the short end. Certainly wasn't trying to
take advantage of anyone and could see how my original asking price
might have been a bit on the high side so I adjusted it..

Need to make more room in the shack. Decided to sell my Knight T-150.
She's very clean with a small ding on the front panel. Man, I hate
that. The only "mod" I see is one of the previous owners installed an
Amphenol connector for the mic. Only real issue is that the pilot
lamp leads have been snipped off (seen in pics below). Don't quite
understand the reason behind this. Otherwise, she looks good.

Price: $225.00 and that INCLUDES UPS ground shipping inside the US,
for Hawaii and Alaska I'll have to use the USPS. PayPal preferred but
will accept money orders.

Well, that includes shipping which will cost me $50 by the time I buy
packing materials. One missing the finals, and other b0rked stuff
just sold on eBay for $115. I can always come down on my price.

Hi JT,

I built the "improved" T-150A back when it first came out. It was a poor
perfomer in the drift department and needed neutralizing added for a stable
final on 10/6M. Certainly not in the same class as some plate modulated rigs
available close to that original asking price range.

Thanks for not going anal like that other guy that commented, my comment was
mostly tongue in cheek. Best be sure you get a Postal Money Order.

I'll pack and UPS it for you for $25 to make amends; I have a commercial
account and daily pickup. Im down Mammoth Rd in Pelham and go up to

Well, that includes shipping which will cost me $50 by the time I buy
packing materials. One missing the finals, and other b0rked stuff just sold
on eBay for $115. I can always come down on my price.

Why is it everytime someone has something to say that doesn't seem coincide
with your though process, you make a comment like the one below and then
solicit comments from some of your other cronies! If he wants $225 maybe
someone wants one of these radios really bad for the nostalgia factor. Quite
possibly maybe they had one of these as a first radio. I think you have a
bit too muchg time on your hands judging by all posts to the reflector you
make through out the day. Grow up.!!!

I'm selling a very clean Knight T-60. I have an equally nice T-150 and
just don't have a need for the T-60. Offering it here before it goes on
fleaBay. It loads into a light bulb real nice but I have not had a QSO
with it.

Price: $85.00 plus ACTUAL shipping costs. I have The UPS Store package
and ship my vintage gear. Rig will be double boxed and insured for
twice the cost. The UPS Store isn't the cheapest but they are very
quick to honor claims if something arrives damaged.

Pics can be seen here: http://n1ese.qrpradio.com/T-60

Payment via PayPal is preferred.

[AMRadio] For Sale - 2 Rangers and a Valiant

2007-10-15 Thread John Lawson

Time to 'cull the herd' - make way for New Gear.

I have two Ranger Is and a Viking Valiant I that I am interested in
passing on to Warm Loving Homes...

I don't want to get into a 'bidding frenzy' and I'd like to not go to
any formal auction sites on these... let's keep them "in the family".

So just write me PRIVATELY - do not copy your replies to the list
please, for clutter's sake - and I'll give more info then - please tell me
which rig you're interested in, or two, or all three...

Briefly - one Ranger is in nice shape, and has a yellow CD sticker on
it's upper right corner. Fully operational with keyer circuit.

One Ranger is in good condition, the meter glass has come unglued and
need to be re-attached, though the meter itself is fine. Also, the knobs
have Braille dymo tape on them. This rig works well and puts out rated
power.

The Valiant I is (was) my "daily driver" - hase been re-capped and has
1-year-old 6146s in final and mod, and has solid-state rectifiers
installed. Front panel has some worn areas around the PTT switch, but
its in overall nice shape w/no mods or extra holes anywhere.

Also I have an ATR-15 Antenna Tuner, an MFJ Balanced Line ammeter, 450
feet of copper-clad longwire (from the antenna guy in Oklahoma) and a
Beckman 905 WWV reciever..

Oh yeah, a Central Electronics MM-200 Mod Monitor - has dim trace, but
I have the book and schematics on it.

Write me PRIVATELY off-list with offers and any unusual stories as to
why YOU have to be the one to own one of these rigs. :)

Professional packing by me will be a bit extra - you pay the shipping
from Carson City, NV 89403. USA sales ONLY. Local pickup is fine,
delivery within a reasonable radius is also available for a suitable
bribe.

  Cheers

John KB6SCO

PS: I'll be travelling quite a bit this week, so be patient if I don't get
right back to you in 10 minutes  ;}

[AMRadio] For Sale WRL 500A - Pick up only southern NJ

2007-03-05 Thread John Dilks K2TQN

Hi Gang,

I have a WRL 500A surplus to my needs, with a 755 VFO.

$650. picked up 10 miles west of Atlantic City in southern New Jersey.

Condition - clean enough for it's age. I never restored it or tried
to power it. I have had this about 5 years?. The prior owner took
it off line and put it in storage for at least 10 years prior to me
getting it. So it needs the normal checking out and replacing caps, etc.

I have an extra final (used).

Possible delivery could be arranged to the south Boston area just
before Easter week. Planning a trip if health permits.

Please contact me off the reflector.

2007-02-25 Thread Jim Wilhite

I have a couple of items for sale.

Dentron Super Super Tuner. 160-10AT rated at 3 KW for SSB
which should handle full output on AM. It looks good with
just a few scratches on the case. $175.00 plus shipping.
Shipping weight is approximately 23 lbs.
Bird 4411 wattmeter. Reads peak power for industrial
applications. One slug from 2-30 Mcy reading from 10 watts
to 30 KW (slug model number 4410-4). Powered by 110-240 VAC
(switch selectable) or one 9 volt battery. Clean with just
a few scratches on the case. $450.00 plus shipping. Copy

[AMRadio] For Sale: E. F. Johnson Thunderbolt Amplifier

2006-10-31 Thread Don Merz
For Sale: E. F. Johnson Thunderbolt HF amplifier
covering 80-10 meters. Capable of 2KW input using a
pair of 4-400A tubes.

This Tbolt looks pretty good but it has some small
paint scrapes at the front panel edges on all 4
sides, more on the top front edge than on the other
edges. The cabinet paint is pretty good. But you know
how the EFJ cabinet paint always was. They never
seemed to get good adhesion on their paint jobs. So
there are some chips here and there. Finally, the
original owner had used color-coded stickers to mark
where he wanted to tune the amp for each band, so that
he would not have to work out the tuning each time--he
could just hit his color-coded marks. So you will want
to remove his tiny self-adhesive labels and their glue
residue.

I've never had the amp running so I can't speak to
it operationally. It does look good inside and the
owner was using it, so I am assuming that it does what
it's supposed to. It requires 220V of course. I have 2
used, good 4-400A tubes that I will include with the
rig. I also have the origional manual. $475 plus
shipping or pick up in Pittsburgh, PA. It weighs
120 pounds and will approach 140-145 packed.

Let me know if you're interested. I can get some
pictures for you.

Thanks for looking.

Ads are normally deleted by moderators only. Your ad will
eventually disappear when it gets bumped down the list by
more recent ads. Eventually, if nothing else is done, it'll
get dropped way down on the list where no one will see it.

You can ask Gary or some other moderator to kill it.

If you're logged in, and it was originally posted by you, there should
be a button at the bottom that says "Remove Topic". On the other
hand, an administrator can set a particular forum where topics can not
be removed. My suggestion would be to simply edit/modify the topic
(if you sell an item) to say SOLD, etc., etc.

Good solution that should work every where.

Sellers should list their direct

email address at the TOP of their list of items for sale so that the
buyer can simply click on their email to reply.

[AMRadio] For Sale / Wanted

2006-08-14 Thread Radio Station W5AMI

1) For Sale ads WILL be permitted on the AMRadio Reflector as they
always have been so long as the ads are not for the purpose of
promoting a business in general such as "Buy cheap from Fred's
Discount BC-610 Warehouse", and the like.

2) When buying an item from a seller. Please be careful to reply to
the seller ONLY if at all possible. Sellers should list their direct
email address at the TOP of their list of items for sale so that the
buyer can simply click on their email to reply. If a mistake is made
and someone does reply back to the list, I will handle it off-list if
it seems to be a repeat occurrence.

3) DO NOT flame, criticise, or critique ANY members post or ideas, on
this list in public. This goes for admins and moderators as well.
Any "calling on the carpet" will be done privately off the list, and
should be done in a respectful manner, otherwise let the admin deal
with it.

3) See number 2 again...

4) This subject should now be closed for discussion.

Thanks and enjoy!

2006-08-05 Thread w4rl
FS: ELDICO SSB-1000 Amplifier
Classic ELDICO SSB-1000 linear amplifier. In very good condition. Purchased
from a local ham who was selling his gear and going RV'ing full time. No
modifications of which I am aware except for commerical solid state plug-in
replacements for the HV 866 rectifiers. Original factory paint. Was working
when I purchased the unit. Have not put it on the air in my shack. Weight is 98
pounds so my preference is local pickup, but will ship per your instructions at
your expense. If shipped, I would think that it would need to been transported
via a trucking company with appropiate wooden crate shipping container and
insurred. Photocopy of manual incluced. Price is $550.00 plus shipping costs.
Reason for sale: Too many "irons in the fire". Thanks for your interest es 73
