Many thanks to everyone who chimed in on the SB-200. The unit coming to me has a power supply problem, and I think I'll do a few of the more 'popular' mods while I'm sorting that out. [AMRadio] Thanks, Sorry for the Delay
Had a family emergency to deal with over the last week which kept me out of town and away from the list until this past weekend. Just wanted to say thank you to Brian for the 'appointment' to AMbassador, and to the hearty welcome extended to Gary and I. I've been a big fan of the online AM resources for the last decade plus, especially this list, the AM Window, AM Classifieds, and AMfone. Not sure how long I've been on this list, but as a point of reference it was back before we changed to a different format/server as I offered to help translate the archives at that time. So I've been here for a while, around the block a few times, and am happy to do whatever I can to help out. I credit the group online as much as listening to the receiver at home with finally getting me back on the air and active last year. It was just to difficult to sit by and read about all the fun I was missing! It's been just about a year since I worked Jim W5JO for my then-furthest AM contact ever. Here's to a great group, and many more years of cooperation and enjoyment in keeping AM alive, active, and moving forward into the future. 73 - ~ Todd KA1KAQ __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.

Yep, everytime I see the name 'BELTON' posted, I get envious. Been hearing about that 'fest for years, more recently the one Brian was discussing on the mountain top also. Went to Hamcation in Orlando in 2005, but got there on the wrong day. Been to Gaithersburg FARfest once, got there late also because of a stubborn RA-1000. The local stuff is nice bcause it's close and easy, but traveling around is a lot of fun. You can bet that once I get moved and settled (and build a baby to keep the wife busy), I'll be making it a point to get over that way. I've actually met radio folks out in the Portland/Vancouver area, Florida, Maryland, and around New England. It's always enjoyable to put faces with names/voices, and see what goodies they're hiding in their radio room. ~ Todd __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word unsubscribe in the message body.

[AMRadio] Thanks for Tuner Advice!
The majority of folks seem to like the Palstar products an awful lot and there were a few Ten-Tec plugs, too. I think I'll end up with the 2 or 3 KW model of one or the other - just have to do some more investigating - I'm mostly concerned with the ability to handle continuous power into a widely-varying antenna impedance. And as I said, eventually I'll put together an automatically-controlled unit that will tune the feedpoint of the antenna and still present a fairly constant impedance to the feedline... and be able to pass a 'real' kilowatt in the process. I've got the big roller inductors for that, finding capacitors is next, then the sensors, stepper motors, and controls, etc just no time right now for such a project. Thanks again to all who gave their opinions and advice! Cheers John KB6SCO

I gotta believe that AM is making a comeback. SSB has gotten a bit boring. Too bad AM cannot get the respect it deserves and the frequencies to go with it. Thanks again. Looking forward to hearing you on the air, Dick. There's a group of us 5-landers on 3.885 EARLY in the mornings (from 4 to 6am) and then the 'later morning' crew fires up around 8am, on 3.880. There are some other guys that might be 100 to 200 miles closer to ya, on 3.890 that you could give a listen to. Or, you could go homestead a new frequency some/anywhere else in the phone band. Seems there's a 'waste land' down below 3.850. QSO's are few and far between and mostly SSB, but I've known some AM to occur on 3.840, 3.820, and even 3.760. The point is, we don't -have- to be limited to 3.870~3.890. SSB is just another version of AM 'Phone operation, and therefore is permitted anywhere 'phone operations are allowed. 73 = Best Regards, -Geoff/W5OMR

Thanks to all who responded to the lightning information. I have passed this on to my brother, and hopefully he will use some of this to prevent another hit. 73 Brian/w5ami

Thanks to all those who replied, and gave your opinions on how the list should be kept. It IS good to hear so many want to keep it as-is, and I go along with that thought 100 percent. Unfortunately, there is no way with the mailman software at this time to simply purge posts coming from an invalid account (at least I'm not yet aware of a way). I have to tend to them, or the notice emails from the software come about every 6 hours saying There a so and so number of posts you need to tend to In the Winter months, I get at least 20 a day. In the past, I have seen some 40 or more. Geoff; the message you got is another problem. I can't change it. Apparently it is a generic message for all the QSL.NET list's. I personally liked majordomo and it's interface a lot more than I do the mailman software. We will keep things as they are on this list, and by the way, I would never change anything without consulting first with our fine member base. Thanks again es 73 All. Brian / W5AMI
