Re: [AMRadio] deliberate encroachmentencroachment , overstuffed in-box
I trim my inbox every day and don't save any postings since the majority of all the Reflectors I subscribe to, including this one, have an e-mail archive that's available to all of us if I need to go find something "important". Over these last many years, most reflector discussions always seem to take the format process that's similar to the age old discussion, "how many people does it take to change a light bulb?". Of all the keys on my keyboard, I love my delete key the best. I hate it when I do that. 73 Rob K5UJ On Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 10:24 AM, Bernie Doran wrote: > Hi Rob: I started that about a mo ago, it sort of took off and then died, > why its back I do not know, must be global warming!!! Sorry for my post--I figured out the "deliberate encroachment" topic goes back a week or two and I had forgotten about it. Thought it was something new from last night or yesterday. 73 Rob K5UJ On Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 10:11 AM, Rob Atkinson wrote: > What discussion? What discussion? I have not gotten any of this until I got the mail complaining about it. Is anyone else getting spotty mail? I had suspicions when I would see replies and such to things I didn't recall ever seeing, but now I'm sure about it. The problem would be solved if everyone would simply trim their replies but as we all know, very few take the time to do this, and as a result the digests are virtually unreadable. You'd think with all the smart guys out there someone would write some code that could do this automatically, and I suppose if it earned a few million a year for Google, someone would have done so already ;-) 73, Bob W9RAN __ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/amradio@mailman.qth.net/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Post: AMRadio@mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-requ...@mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body. John, that's how email lists/reflectors work. They aren't set up for any specific individual. Everybody gets to take part, not just the ones who say things you or I specifically want to read. We get to decide what's more important to us - reading every post or the possibility of missing something. The extent to which we're allowed to control what others say is based solely on whether or not we run a list or subscribe/participate in it. If you moderate a list, you can stifle discussion and the list will eventually wither away. If you subscribe, you can read, delete, skip messages and so on. Time consuming, sure. But the benefits far outweigh occasionally having to sift through the chaff, in my opinion. Having been involved with this stuff since the mid 90s, I can suggest that perhaps you're subscribed to too many lists and should consider unsubscribing to a few. After all, your endless complaints here as well as on the boatanchors and Hallicrafters lists to 'end the conversation and move on' certainly clutter up my mailbox, the inboxes of all the other members, and have zero to do with what's being discussed. No offense, but it gets old. We all get the same posts as you, yet most others seem pretty adept at dealing with it. If you're simply looking for content, Don's suggestion is a good one. If you're afraid you'll miss something as you say, you'll just have to continue sifting through it like the rest of us. I,ve tried digests, but there is still all that stuff to weed through. When someone posts a comment and there are say 10 replies answering the question, everybody has to stick their 2 cents in, many times under the old message title. Sometimes, you miss valuable comments because they are totally unrelated to the subject. If one doesn't want to miss something, they still have to read everything. Worse than the Pied Piper!. That way, you receive the messages consolidated into one or two batches a day instead of a separate message in your in-box for every message posted on the list. I subscribe to several lists. If I didn't use digest mode for each one, I would have to sort through more than 100 messages in a typical day.
