Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Thanks Al, I did the same and it helped. I also heated it with a heat shrink gun and that helped. I was never able to get any crud to flow out, but it does seem to be working properly now. 73, Rick Schichler, Alfred wrote: I had a G-50 a couple years ago with the same problem. Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Good idea, Jim, I'll order one. Are there any other frequencies I need for AM operation? I'd still like to have both VFO's working correctly. It drives me crazy to have equipment that isn't completely functional. I found last night the back of the rotor had somehow slipped around (probably when I tapped the transceiver on the bench to get solder or other foreign objects out after repair) and was causing some of the slipping. Brian, do you have these rocks? Rick Rick, Plug in a 8.4 Mhz crystal! Also, maybe the reduction drive Brian AF4K __ AMRadio mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net AMfone Website: http://www.amfone.net AM List Admin: Brian Sherrod/w5ami, Paul Courson/wa3vjb
RE: [AMRadio] Diversion
I had a G-50 a couple years ago with the same problem. The internal reduction drive assembly was slipping in some places. I squirted some degreaser inside the bigger shaft, and it worked much better. It started slipping again when it dried, but after squirting a little more in there, the slipping was gone. It might not work all the time, but it did work for me. After stuffing the filter capacitors and replacing a couple of capacitors in the cathode circuit of the speech amp/preamp combo the G-50 came to life. However, I find now that the variable capacitor on the receive VFO is having turning problems. It's one of those geared internally capacitors with one shaft inside another one. I guess the friction clutch or whatever makes those things tick is worn out or maybe oily. Does anyone have a solution for such a problem, other than replacing it? On Behalf Of Rick Brashear owever, I find now that the variable capacitor on the receive VFO is having turning problems. Also, maybe the reduction drive Brian AF4K has for sale will somehow work in the G50 without major surgery. I find that the VFO in my G-50 is too unstable even for AM. I use a crystal instead. The same is true on my Gonset G-76. Regards, Jim JKO -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Thanks Mark. I'll give your idea a shot. I'll do almost anything to prevent having to take it off the chassis. I need to do an alignment on it and I want to get this resolved first. I am hearing a few stations on and would like to get in the mix. It's been many moons since I worked 6 meter AM. The audio gain seems to be down a little and the AVC doesn't seem to be behaving right, so I still have a little work to do. 73, Rick Rick, Yes, that is probably just polymerized grease. Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Rick, Yes, that is probably just polymerized grease. Take either a hot air gun or even a propane torch and gently hear up the shaft to melt the old grease. Quickly displace the old molten grease out with WD40. Then cool, wipe the area down and repack with fresh grease. 73 Mark --- Rick Brashear <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I took time-out from the R-3** and BTA-1R2 and BC-610 and so on to get > the G-50 I bought a while back in operation.
