[amsat-bb] Re: Antenna Problem ..need some help please

2009-07-18 Thread racer5039
Greg,
Yes, It is CP. and I do have the mounted in an X to the cross boom.
When I made it last yr, I'm not sure that the gama match's are set the best
that they could be.
I have 60" of 1/2 hard line to a T then 2 pcs of 75 ohm coax to the antenna.
Works ok on RX but I think it could do better on TX.
I have pre amps on my X-mas list :)

  Hi Marv,

If the SWR suddenly changed, you've probably got a broken feed wire
somewhere. I'd leave the matching section adjustment alone (assuming it was
good before), and focus on the connections, starting at the shack end.

It sounds like you have a circularly polarized antenna, in which case it
doesn't matter which set of elements are horizontal. In fact, many mount CP
antennas in an "X" orientation to minimize the interaction with the supporting
boom.

If you want to make adjustments with the antenna off the tower, I find it's
best to point it straight into the air to minimize the effects of being near
the ground.

  Good luck with the debugging,

  Greg KO6TH

There is an announcement on the front page of the AMSAT web site about the

[amsat-bb] WD9EWK's Utah road trip starts tomorrow...

2009-07-18 Thread Patrick STODDARD (WD9EWK/VA7EWK)

Hi!

I'm getting set for my drive into southern Utah tomorrow morning.
I apologize for not showing up on passes today. Lots of people in
the hall at the hamfest, and storm clouds in the afternoon kept me
off the air. A good two-day hamfest, including a quick visit by
"Uncle" Larry WA6DIR stopping in Williams on his way to New Mexico.
Thanks to the Amateur Radio Council of Arizona for allowing AMSAT
to be in the main exhibit hall for the hamfest!

So far, I'm still planning to be around DM47 and/or DM57 for the
AO-27 passes in the afternoon. Maybe even on the grid boundary, if
there is a safe place to stop there. After that, I hope to get as
far north as DM58 near the Utah/Colorado state line for the AO-51
passes tomorrow night. Since SO-50 passes are in the mid- to late-
morning, I may be able to get on those passes on my way toward DM57
(either from DM46 in Arizona or DM47 in Utah, on the Navajo Nation
reservation).

Good night, and 73!

I really wanted to have an open mind about this but Just as I had figured - the
picture was too grainy to make out any details, the picture was taken by a US
rocket which means Nasa - and it happend to be at the same time the "real"
landing took place. Come on now, if Nasa is feeding you the only information
about this and controls what pictures are released. Just how true do you think
this is.

Grainy photos, Nasa rockets and Nasa control are not edviance of anything

Just my 2 cents. - and oh btw I never said we didn't goto the moon, just that a
man Never walked on the moon. There is a hugh difference.
I want edviance from a source other then a US rocket under Nasa control.

And yes, I am only 38 yrs old, so I wasn't around for Apollo 11 and pretty
young for the rest of the missions - I do remember seeing the TV footage. But I
don't remember much else about. Show me hard edviance that it happend I and I

[amsat-bb] AMSAT-UK Colloquium (2009) Speakers Programme

2009-07-18 Thread David Johnson
Hi,

The final (I hope) version of the speakers programme is now available on
the AMSAT-UK web site.

Unfortunately the hotel is now full but there are still rooms to be
found in Guildford using laterooms.com. Therefore, it's still not too
late to book in as day visitors, at the hotel, details on the web site, too.

[amsat-bb] Hoping to email WW3O

2009-07-18 Thread n3tl
Hey everyone,

I'm trying to contact WW3O by email, and I'm failing miserably. I tried two
email addresses - the one listed on his QRZ.com page, and the one listed at the
top of his article in the last AMSAT Journal. Both emails bounced back with
"permanent failure" messages.

Peter - if you're reading this - please email me at the address this post is
coming from.

Otherwise, if anyone has a good, current email address for WW3O, I would
appreciate receiving it in a private email off the BB.

Thanks!

This Special Event Station is a fun project on the Sats. Give it a try.

N3TL has done much to encourage operation on our limited sats with his
articles, operating and now this event.

[amsat-bb] TH-D7(G) plug size?

2009-07-18 Thread Jeff Yanko
Hi all,

I've been looking over the manual of the TH-D7(G) HT and I can't seem to
find any information on the size of the plug used to supply DC input to this
unit. There is a fused cable available, PG-2W, but if the plug size is
known then I can attempt to find it and make my own cable. Hopefully, it's
not propriatary.

A couple of bits of sticky velcro, and some black foamcore or similar.
Cut a strip as wide as the required depth of hood and as long as the
width and twice the height of the laptop lid (plus a wee bit over for
the bends). Then trim the sides so that they slope back and down like a
truncated triangle so you can actually get at the function keys.
Finally "crimp" the foamcore so that it folds cleanly at the corners and
use the sticky velcro to attach it to the lid.
