[amsat-bb] Re: Happy 5th Birthday to HAMSAT

2010-05-12 Thread William Leijenaar
Hi Domenico

Thanks for the flowers.

Hopefully we can get some more linear transponders in orbit in the future.
Besides the small mode-UV that I have here on the shelf I am working on a
mode-LS version as well (CubeSat size ofcourse).
Also on my bench is a credit card sized 2m-70cm FM transponder, which still
needs some time to get finalized.

[amsat-bb] Re: PC clock

2010-05-12 Thread Erich Eichmann
Hello Mark, Domenico and others,
when SatPC32 updates the antenna positions it turns the antennas a half step
in front of the satellites position. The manual says:

"Under all tracking options, the rotors are activated with a precession of
one half step, either one half of the time interval or one half of the
tracking angle, to ensure that the satellite moves through the antenna
focus."

Hello Domenico,

The very excellent SatPC32 program "leads" so as to keep an accurate
pointing at a satellite. It has several adjustments for how often the
rotors are updated, gain consideration of the antennas in use, etc.

Look forward to it, just getting 70cm SSB up and running here. I
suspect that I will be using this mode almost exclusively for
satellite operation.

2010-05-12 Thread i8cvs
Hi Herich, DK1TB

When manually tracking a LEO satellite beginning from OSCAR-6 I
realized the same trick to point the antennas with an angle 5 to 10
degree in front of the satellite position.

The same technique is used by hunters to shoot down birds.

I had intended to use the tone access on V/S this week. Although the PL
will not PTT the S transmitter, the quiet carrier makes the downlink
easier to find, and there are not so many users to make that type of PL
access problematic. However, the V/S entry in the automatic scheduler
does not include PL, and since the scheduler is now what is making V/S
possible, there is no PL.

Long story short, we intended to, but couldn't due to a change in
procedure. I'll fix the Command Team webpage right now.

[amsat-bb] S band cavity filter test

2010-05-12 Thread Luc Leblanc

With AO-51 in mode V/S i start to test a wave guide filter model ITS 1653C made
by ITS corporation Mc Murry PA.
The wave guide centered on 2401Mhz with a band pass covering 2400 to 2402Mhz
with a very low insertion loss.

The first test made on my last AO-51 pass confirm all the qrm out of the
passband if effectively reduced a lot.

More test will be needed to confirm if the filter effectively help my AIDC
downconverter reception

P.S. when i dismantle the antenna coax from the AIDC connector i saw the N
female connector full of white rust. Even with a carefull taping
only the antenna connector show this type of corosion. I suspect the N male
adaptor and the is made of a different alloy than the AIDC N
connector.
After one year at the top of the tower the corrosion take his toll and it will
a good thing to check your AIDC downconverter connector
condition.

I don't know how i was able to hear on 2401mhx with a so white powder rusted
connector?

Hi Greg, KO6TH

It was only the Sub Satellite Point SSP of the Moon south of your latitude
on the earth surface i.e. the map display but the Moon as seen from your
locator was north of your latitude over the celestial sphere up in the sky
and this is why you aim north the antennas to hit the Moon even if her SSP
on the map has a southbound path.
