[amsat-bb] FQ56pm, Thule Greenland on the air today.

2010-05-24 Thread Reid Crowe
All,

I am planning on leaving Thule Greenland on either Wednesday or Thursday
of this week. I do not know how many more opportunities I will have to
be on the air before I leave Greenland. We are not flying today so I
will try to make the most of my down time and get on the air. I will
try to be on the following passes today from FQ56pm:

AO-51 1131UTC
AO-51 1310UTC
AO-51 1627UTC
HO-68 1835UTC

Thank you to everyone I've worked or who has tried to work me. You guys
have made this trip a lot of fun for me.

73,

Reid OX/N0RC

I feel sorry for all satellite operators that have never had the
opportunity to try out a HEO. I never demonstrated one from the shack, but
during field days when I had an audience there was always a lot of
fascination at equipment and at all you could hear. Most of the time there
was always some DX too.

Sounds like one of the output transistors went bad (probably open). This
would give you half power and higher input (IC821 to amp) swr.

[amsat-bb] Re: HO68 schedule needs looking at

2010-05-24 Thread Bent, OZ6BL
The latest schedule (23 - 30 May) contains nothing but FM passes. Last
weeks schedule contained but 2 (two) packet passes - of which only one
was usable here in OZ.

I take it that the omission of packet passes this week is deliberate and
that the FM mode again can be used for packet as well.

If that is not the case I respectfully submit that more packet passes be
scheduled. One a day over Europe would be fine.

Hi Pete, WB2OQQ

I don't think it is possible to consider a PL tone on FO-29 to open the
transmitter to conserve the battery when not in use because actually
FO-29 is operating only:

Voice/CW (Mode JA)
Uplink: 145.90 to 146.00 MHz CW/LSB
Downlink: 435.80 to 435.90 MHz CW/USB
Beacon: 435.795 MHz

and the

Digital Mode JD
Uplinks: 145.850 MHz FM
  145.870 MHz FM
  145.910 MHz FM
Downlink: 435.910 MHz 1200-baud BPSK or 9600-baud FSK
Callsign: 8J1JCS
Digitalker: 435.910 MHz

is out of service from many years now.In addition I don't think
FO-29 in Mode JD has been designed to operate FM Voice with
a PL tone.

How can you actually open a PL tone in ( Mode JA ) using an SSB
transmitter ?

In my opinion it is best to use a minimum EIRP power on FO-29
to conserve the battery because actually FO-29 along with HO-68
and OSCAR-7 is the best available satellite for linear CW and SSB
operation.

On FO-29 SSB I worked N2UN in New York from my JN70ES and
it was a real thrill to contact Tony with his portable station on a
promenade next to the East River.

[amsat-bb] Re: Cubesat Group purchase of EMCOR cells

2010-05-24 Thread Ignacio de León
Bob,

The Voc (open circuit) = 2.7V aprox
The Isc (short circuit) = 455 mA aprox

The value are aproximate because depends on the technology ATJ, BTJ, ZTJ,
MATJ, MBTJ, MZTJ

This link show the cells and their datasheets
http://www.emcore.com/solar_photovoltaics/space_solar_cells

Important, these value are infomation about standars cells, not for the
cells with mechanical or electrical anomalies

The area is 26.6 cm2 and the size is like a rectangle of 4 x 8 cm
(aprox). Enter
two cells on each side of the cube.

Thanks
Ignacio

Remember to get some spares.

Out of curiosity, what's the cost per sell in this type of purchase?

[amsat-bb] Re: [CubeSat] Cubesat Group purchase of EMCOR cells

2010-05-24 Thread Vu Trong Thu
Hello,
I'm Thu from Vietnam who is working in a cubesat project, too. Initially I
also looked at Spectrolab and Emcore's solar cells but due to ITAR
regulation it is very difficult for me to procure these cells so I have to
turn to Azurspace (a Germany company). Their 3G28 cells are also triple
junction with similar efficiency and the best thing I like is that they are
ITAR-free, no minimum order (I ordered 20 units with ease) and nice email
support.

That's my experience so if you're interested to learn more, feel free to
send me an email and I may help.

Cheers,
Thu XV9AA

AMSAT and CUBESAT:

A student CUBESAT group in Uruguay wants to partner with another
CUBESAT group to purchase the minimum quantity (150) of triple
jnction solar cells from EMCOR. They only need a dozen.

Anyone want to team up?

[amsat-bb] Re: Cubesat Group purchase of EMCOR cells

2010-05-24 Thread Ignacio de León
Hi everyone.
I'm part of the Uruguaian group.

This is the email that Emcore answered to me.

EMCORE does offer mechanical/visual (MV) bare solar cells (MV cells are not
available in SCA's). MV solar cells have mechanical anomalies or
discoloration that make them unusable for space. MV solar cells have an
efficiency typically greater than 25% at AM0 and 28°C.

*Price *

EMCORE offers MV cells for $50.00 (USD) each with a minimum order quantity
of 150 cells.

*Terms and Conditions*

EMCORE’s MV cells are offered on an “as available, first come, first serve”
basis. EMCORE’s standard terms and conditions for MV cells are as follows:
1. Parts sold on an “as is” basis with no warranty. All sales are final.
2. Quantities offered are subject to continued inventory availability.
3. Payment is required in advance of shipment by bank transfer or credit
card.
4.Customer is responsible for all shipping costs (including
insurance) from freight forwarding office.
5.Minimum purchase price is $7,500.00 for any order.

Sorry for bother
Warm regards from Uruguay
Thank you very much.

It is not important if they are form Emcore, Spectrolab or whatever.
We need between 6 and 12 cells.

Nick, how much cells do you need?

Thanks you very much

Yes, it works fine, although I have not tried to steer the rotors or tune
the radio with it under Windows 7 yet.

One suggestion, though: during installation, do NOT accept the default
installation directory. Install it into a custom folder in the root
directory to avoid user account control issues.

I have used it with my FT-736R using the radio serial port using a
Edgeport USB to 8-port serial converter and with USB port LVB tracker
Yaesu G-5400 rotor control. All worked fine under Windows 7 64 bit Home
Edition .

I do seem to have an issue of RF interfering with the LVB tracker unit.
Occasionally, the LVB tracker communications is lost when I am
transmitting. If I disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it, LVB
tracker works again. I have tested receive only operation for many hours
and never had a problem with the rotor tracking or radio control.
