[amsat-bb] Re: Jugnu (JNU)
We heard Jugnu the last two nights between 5 and 9 PM UTC. We think the beacon may be turning off periodically due to a shortage of power. I dont know what the period of the cycle is since we don't have enough data points to reach a reasonable conclusion. There is no good reason for it to be a 24 hour cycle, so its possible its also turning on at times when we dont have visibility here. I'll update the list after tonight's passes as to whether the thing is actually cyclical as per visibility from our station. The data we have could also fit a scenario where it is audible only for a time after satellite enters eclipse, which makes some sense but seems unlikely. In that case, you would only be able to hear it on passes between 9-12 PM local time. Regards Shashank On Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 3:47 AM, Dinesh Cyanam wrote: > Yeah. I am wondering the same too. [amsat-bb] Technical discussions on AMSAT-BB......"an endangered species" ?
Hi All, I do remember that when OSCAR-10, OSCAR-13 and AO40 were alive and well this net on AMSAT-BB was full of technical messages from W3IWI now K3IO ,G3RUH, G3WDG, ZL1AOX and many others from wich it was possible to lern the radio technique particularly in the field of RF and antennas. By the way actually with the prolification of Microsats,Nanosats and so on the above people seems to be not anymore interested on satellite technical discussions and they abandoned the net. [amsat-bb] E1Pu2 & RAX2 downlink conflict?
What frequencies are E1Pu2 and RAX2 using? Both are CubeSats aboard the NPP launch on October 27th, and both have the same IARU coordination - 437.505MHz, and both are 9k6. I haven't seen any frequencies from IARU, the mission websites, or this BB specifically associated with these reflights (RAX1 suffered from power problems on orbit, and E1P didn't make it to orbit due to the Taurus failure). Perhaps this has already been resolved since the mission websites indicate that E1P is on 437.505 (IARU allocation) but RAX1 used 437.100. But it is good to make sure! http://www.amsatuk.me.uk/iaru/finished.php http://rax.engin.umich.edu/?page_id=311 http://ssel.montana.edu/e1p/operations/ 73, KB1LKI ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] 4C1JPG on satellites - 14-30 October 2011
Hi! I saw this on another mailing list, and haven't seen any mention of it anywhere else, so here goes Members of the "Radio Experimentadores de Occidente" radio club XE1TD will use the special Mexican call 4C1JPG during the 2011 Pan-American Games, currently taking place in Guadalajara. 4C1JPG ("Juegos Panamericanos Guadalajara", the Spanish translation of the event in that Mexican city) will be on 160m through 6m, as well as the satelltes through 30 October 2011. QSL cards will be available, as well as electronic confirmations in both LOTW and eQSL. More information about 4C1JPG, including the Mexican address of the 4C1JPG QSL manager, is available at: http://www.qrz.com/db/4C1JPG By the way, for those who work that station - or any Mexican station - and would like to send SASEs instead of including a US dollar bill or IRC with your QSL request, I have lots of Mexican postage stamps. Using SASEs works a lot better when trying to send something to a Mexican ham. Please e-mail me directly if you would like to get some stamps for QSLing. Good luck and 73! I went outside and checked the bearing of the antenna. > Seems ok. FO-29 is currently off. Since it was the only current SSB/CW satellite with a 70cm downlink, we will have to hope that FO-29 can be reactivated in the near future. Otherwise, there's VO-52 with a 2m downlink and AO-7 with its alternating 2m and 10m downlinks if you're trying to work SSB, or you can try for the transponder on ARISSat-1 (70cm up/2m down). If you want to work FM, you have AO-51 as well as AO-27 (afternoon passes only) and SO-50 that are available - all with 70cm downlinks. 73! [amsat-bb] Odd Satellite problem
I am having a problem hearing the downlink of any SSB satellites on 440. I've been off the Sats for a couple of years, two or so. I just rebuilt my station PC and reinstalled all the apps, specifically, SatPC32, and ARSWIN and my controller to my G-5500 and 12 element 2-meter and 17 element 440 beams. I use two SSB pre-amps, one each for 144 and 440, both appear to work perfectly. When I click the Pre-amp button on the ICOM-910, I hear the background noise level increase, telling me the pre-amp is operating. The 440 receiver appears to otherwise work ok. I was able to work VO-52 where 440 was the uplink and was able to get on the air for one pass of an FM bird, AO-51, where the downlink was 440. I am no longer able to hear the usual passband noise of the Sat when as it comes overhead It is 21:10 UTC and I just finished trying to work FO-29 from CN87 (20:59 to 21:17), and again no luck. I sent my call out on 145.950, but nothing back. Checked the ARRL satellite tracking site and it appears I have the correct keps installed. I went outside and checked the bearing of the antenna. Seems ok. Anyone have any ideas? I am stumped. Did I misread the operating schedule or am I doing something wrong? MacDoppler told me there was a good pass to this part of the world are around 21:30 my time. [amsat-bb] SRMVU
Dear Fellow Hams, We are very thankful for the continuous support from you, by sending us the beacon data. We are right now trying to estimate the performance of the satellite and will be planning to perform the operation of the payload in the next couple of days. Before the operation of the payload is begun, we would like to do a small performance test with respect to the RF link. We, therefore request you to kindly keep sending the beacon signal and also try to send the details of the RF signal performance over the entire length of the pass. I would like to quote some of the words from the SRMSAT project Students and Mentors "IT IS A GREAT MORAL BOOSTING CONTINUING INFO FLOW FROM YOU FOR THE SRMSAT GROUP. iT MAKE US PROUD TO CONFIRM FREQUENTLY THAT OUR SAT IS WORKING. gRAET SUPPORT.tO BE TAGGED " We would also like to thank Mr. Nader Omer for his support by developing the SRMVU Decoder. " This is great. Thanks to the team for taking such efforts for developing the decoder...its just amazing to see the response of the HAM people out there " Looking forward for the support. 73 AB3OE, Sanjay Srikanth Nekkanti ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: G5500 Elevation Rotator Short Circuit?
Thanks Tim. I'm not aware of any problems with my controller or computer. I notice that there are micro switches to protect against over-run, and wonder why these didn't protect the motor, if one of the circuits had stuck on. BTW have there been any improvements with the sealing against rain water on this model? It seems better than the previous model, in this respect. 73CliveG3CWV On 13/10/2011 21:46, Tim Cunningham wrote: All of the failures were specifically attributed to either a stuck relay in the control box, a manual switch sticking (not releasing) on the front rotor control panel, and a software or computer crash that continued to drive one of the up, down, left, or right control lines. 73, Tim - N8DEU - Original Message - From: "Clive Wallis" To: "amsat" Sent: Sunday, October 09, 2011 11:50 AM Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: G5500 Elevation Rotator Short Circuit? Many thanks Tim for your comments. From what you've said it sounds like a faulty motor. In the ones you've repaired have you been able to determine the cause of motor over heating? The problems I've had in the past have always been due to water getting into the units. 73 Clive G3CWV Hitchin, North Hertfordshire, UK ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org.
