ANS-022 ANS Special Bulletin - AMSAT-NA Website Down

AMSAT News Service Bulletin 022.01
From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.
January 22, 2013
To All RADIO AMATEURS
BID: $ANS-022.01

On or about 20 January 2013, AMSAT-NA's main web site www.amsat.org
was compromised by an attacker, with the contents of the supporting
database, including non-public information, posted on other publicly
available web sites.

It is likely that the attacker gained enough access to the site to
post arbitrary and possibly illegal content, so out of an abundance
of caution the main site was shut down.

Neither the AMSAT store nor the Fox project web site were affected
by this breach. Mail services remain operational.

The main site was developed roughly 10 years ago by a AMSAT volun-
teers under a more benign Internet threat environment. The team that
built that site is no longer associated with AMSAT, so work has been
underway over the last several months to move to a modern, maintain-
able, secure infrastructure. This recent breach will accelerate that
activity. In the interim, www.amsat.org will have limited content.

[ANS thanks AMSAT's User Services Team for the above information]

Just downloaded new keps in my HRD Sat program today and noticed that SO-50
is now listed as Saudisat 1C. Looks like some other ones are also 'renamed'.

Anyone else notice this ?

Still waiting for our president to update the presidents page after how
many years

Looking at the store and the only new items for January are the President's

Yes, I am very critical and very tired of receiving no up to date
information on Fox or anyy major activities currently being done or being
told it is all ITAR.

But hey, I am also very glad of being a member of AMSAT UK and their
website rocks and I receive up to date info from Trevor every week via the

really is amazing, they are actually using it for the benefits of members

 Thanks JoAnne,

Hopefully the board will now move to a much more simpler, streamlined and
up-to date website. The current one is so bloated and so much out of date
 it is pathetic!

Still waiting for our president to update the presidents page after how
 many years

Looking at the store and the only new items for January are the President's
club $4000 plus. What else is new???

Yes, I am very critical and very tired of receiving no up to date
information on Fox or anyy major activities currently being done or being
 told it is all ITAR.

But hey, I am also very glad of being a member of AMSAT UK and their
website rocks and I receive up to date info from Trevor every week via the
mailing list. Thanks so much Amsat-Uk!

 Stefan, VE4NSA

Don't have to believe Google. They cleaned the site up. Unless AMSAT-UK
had a viagra sale that ended.

Of course, that would be a unique fundraising concept for P3E... ;)
