[amsat-bb] New Radio

2013-07-18 Thread Vincenzo Mone
Hi to the list,
as I cannot find the piece for my TS-790E as it is discontinued,
I am thinking that it is time to change my radio.
Anybody can suggest me on that has already enclosed 2m, 7cm and 23cm.
Also it will be wonderful if is already ready to RX and TX 9600 baud and
38k4 baud
Without to modify it by myself.
Any suggestion will be really appreciated

[amsat-bb] Re: New Radio

2013-07-18 Thread i8cvs
Hi Vincenzo, IK8OZV

If you remember a few years ago I suggested you to sell to me your
TS-790E

By the way I was fortunate enought that you do not accepted my offer
because I purchased a second hand TS-790E from a seller in internet complete
with 23 cm module and all accessories for 800,00 Euro, a good price, and
it works wery well as nominal and as new.

You can try to get your TS-790E be repaired by the maintenance service
from HSP Hardsoft Products http://www.hsp.it/

If they don't have available the needed spare parts it is not a problem
because they are connected with smaller companies for maintenance
service into a wide range of amateur equipments.

If you are not succesful with HSP I suggest you to buy a more nova
days uptodate equipment like a Icom IC 9100 wich is obviously more
costly but it has already enclosed from frequency range: 10-160 m +
WARC /50-54 / 144-146 / 430-440 MHz (23 cm option, UX-9100).

[amsat-bb] UKube-1 linear transponder CubeSat may launch October

2013-07-18 Thread M5AKA
BBC News is reporting that the UK Space Agency's first CubeSat UKube-1, being
built by Clyde Space in Glasgow, may launch in late October 2013.

Clyde Space Senior Systems Engineer Steve Greenland will be giving a
presentation on UKube-1 to the AMSAT-UK International Space Colloquium which
takes place July 20-21 at the Holiday Inn, Guildford, GU2 7XZ, UK.

The Colloquium is open to all but for those unable to attend the event all 18
presentations including UKube-1 should be streamed live to the web.

[amsat-bb] Re: Antenna direction calibration

2013-07-18 Thread David Palmer KB5WIA
I actually use the sun for aligning the antennas. SatPC32 comes with
a program called SuM, which can point the antennas directly at the sun
(or moon!). To align the antennas, I look at the shadow of the
antennas on the ground, and adjust until the shadow is minimum size.
It's really easy, (and you don't need to look at the sun to do this
type of alignment).

[amsat-bb] Re: Antenna direction calibration

2013-07-18 Thread i8cvs
Hi Dave, KB5WIA

To align the antennas, I don't look at the shadow of the antennas on
the ground, but I adjust the position of the antenna in Azimuth and
Elevation until the Sun-Noise received in my Signal Streng indicator
is the maximum.

This is very important particularly at very high frequencies using a
dish because the feed can be wrongly mounted sligtly off point from
the center of the dish and the pencil of the radiation pattern of the dish
can be affected by a squint not visible looking at the shadow of the
feed at the center of the dish but still existing from the point of view
of receiving a less strenght of Sun-Noise.
