[amsat-bb] satellite rig comparison
Hi; I have owned the Ft-736 R and the Ft-847, which I am using now. No matter which rig you decide to buy the most important thing is the antenna system. I use KLM,s with switchers and pre amps. I switch my pre amps off and on from the shack. My 847 has a pre amp built in too. Nothing is better than MAST MOUNTED PRE AMPS THOUGH. If my 847 goes bad I will replace it with another used 847. I also work a lot of HF too. I run barefoot on HF all the time. I also get through all the pile ups because I have a good antenna with gain. [amsat-bb] Orbitron help
Hi: Some one helped me before with an Orbitron problem but I lost his e- mail address. The problem is I got a new laptop with Vista Everything works except it won,t download the keps on the internet. The strange part it says it is doing the download but it never shows the update on the sat /Orb info on the program. When I first bring the program up on my computer it says to update because they are over 30 days old. So I say yes to up date but it never gets to the program. Hi : I sent a couple friends that are interested to the AMSAT website. I told them to look at all the satellites. They found the site had all satellites on it. When they brought up the sats they didn,t put on the sidebands on the linear birds, the up and downlinks . I mean the upper and lower sidebands for these birds. Sat operators: When I started in satellites in the 1990,s.things were different. They had a person that sort of monitored a lot of satellite passes and conversations. He was a ham that operated sats too. What he did was sort of police the operators, When you used too much power he sent you an e- mail. I believe the rule of thumb to operate on the satellite is never use no morepower on the uplink than you have on the beacon signal downlink. So when he became a SK we didn,t have any body to monitor our QSO,s. Maybe you old timers can remember his call. Maybe we can have comments from the real old satellite operators.
