[amsat-bb] Satellite demonstration from Aguada town

2012-09-03 Thread Hector Luis Martinez Sis
Hello all!!

The trip to Aguada de Pasajeros town was uneventful. The location chosen
for the demonstrations was the town `s central park. 21 stations were worked
on three satellite passes and a lot of contacts were done on the HF bands and
2m local repeaters. A lot of people came to the presentation and some asked
about how begin in the amateur radio world.

The most exciting part for the audience was when we heard the contact between
NA1SS form the ISS and K3CUJ from the National Electronics Museum, Linthicum,
MD.
It was a great experience to everyone!!!

Equipments used for this satellite operation is what I use usually when
I am portable. A mobile 2m FM radio with a homebrew 70cm/2m down converter
inside,
with a strap around my neck. The 2m Kenwood TK-270 HT for Tx, a 12V 7AH battery
into a backpack, a digital MP3 recorder, The HT in one hand and the homebrew
Arrow
Antenna with a homebrew preamplifier in the other hand.

Thanks to everyone who worked me and said hello to the group. Right now, I have
answered a lot of question about satellite and AMSAT on our 2m local repeater.
I am sure that we won some satellite enthusiasts more.

 Hello all!

On Saturday September 1st, The Aguada de Pasajeros `s Radio Club will give
an Amateur Radio presentation from the Central Park of the town. The Radio
Club will be operating on the HF bands and 2m local repeaters. I will be

to operate on the SO-50 and AO-27 passes from 12:00z to 20:00z and I will
try to encourage some Hams to the Microphone. Aguada town is in EL92 around
 40 miles from Cienfuegos city.

 Please, give us a call!

Hello there!

This weekend EL92sd will be into the FO-29 footprint
with the European western coast. If any station wants
to try a contact, please drop me an email directly.

There are some opportunities to try long contacts with
South America also. If you are into any footprint and

[amsat-bb] Re: New AO7 world distance record

2012-07-02 Thread Hector Luis Martinez Sis
Congratulations Bill and Wyatt!

It is a great milestone! Well done!

73!
Hector, CO6CBF

I am pleased to report that Wyatt AC0RA and I broke the AO7 world record
 today with a
 GPS-measured 7849km QSO between JN88 and EN31 at 0955Z. Recordings of the 40
 second
QSO will be posted to my web page, see www.qsl.net/nz5n (I tried to attach
 but it seems
attachments not allowed on this board).

Wyatt did all the hard work by waking up at 3am, driving to a hill an hour
 away from his
home, setting up his station, and working me before sunrise.  It appears that
 an even
longer distance is attainable, and Wyatt is looking for a suitable place from
 which we
can try before I leave Slovakia in mid-July.

My working conditions are an FT847, 2 x 10 element yagi on 2m with SP2000
 preamp, and an
 8 element yagi for 70cm.

Feel free to email me for a sked.

 73, Bill OM3BD NZ5N

We are pleased to inform that:

The Cuban Amateur Radio Federation (FRC) has created its first officially
Satellite

Raydel CM2ESP, CO7WT Pavel and I were working on the statutes and made the
request to
the FRC headquarters.

The request was approved on March 3rd and its official name is Grupo de
Radioaficionados
para Operaciones Satelitales (GROS).

Its principal mission is: promote the Amateur radio by Satellites in our
country and
motivate the Hams to operate on Satellites.

Now, we are planning our first Meeting in Havana city.

[amsat-bb] Re: Preamps and Arrows

2012-02-24 Thread Hector Luis Martinez Sis
Hello Tom

Recently, I finished another homebrew cavity preamplifier and I have been
trying it on
my homebrew Arrow. Its performance has been wonderful! It allows me an
excellent full
duplex capability and I have received AO-27 until 1 degree!

My current portable setup is a homebrew Arrow, a homebrew 70 cm/2m dawn
converter, two
2m HT Kenwood TK-270 and the homebrew cavity preamplifier.

Thanks very much to Domenico, I8CVS who gave me this great project.

73!
Hector, CO6CBF

Has anyone used a preamplifier in a portable setup based on an Arrow cross
 yagi? Concern
is whether there is enough isolation on 70 cm input from the 2m harmonics.
 ARR. Told me
they would not recommend this setup. What you all think?

 Thanks,

 Tom, N5HYP

[amsat-bb] Re: Mast-mounted preamp recommendation?

2011-11-04 Thread Hector Luis Martinez Sis
Hi Jaime

I built this preamplifier as Domenico described in his article. I am using it
with a
great success too. My environment area is very hot also; I live into the city
wish has a
lot of buildings, Ham activity, broadcastings, repeaters and other stations.

Before I used it; I had the T/V channel interference on the downlink of SO-50
and AO-27.
When I began to use the preamplifier the interference disappeared.

It is a great design!

73!
Hector, CO6CBF

 Hi Jamie

In a separate email I have sent to you an article that I write for Radio
Rivista 9/1993 describing with schematic diagrams and mechanical
drawings my low noise GaAsFET high dinamic range and high
selectivity cavity preamplifier for 435 MHz with NF=0,43 dB and
 gain G = 20 dB

I am using it with great success in my environment area in the bay of
Naples wich is hot with a lot of ham activity, local pagers and FAA
 stations.

By the way it require a lot of mechanical work but for best performance
it must be tuned for the lowest Noise Figure using only a very simple
diode noise generator that was described in the article.

Unfortunately building low noise preamplifiers and tuning instruments
by yourself in novadays seems to become a RF endangered species

 Have fun.

 Subject: [amsat-bb] Mast-mounted preamp recommendation?

 All,

Does anyone have any recommendations on high quality mast-mounted preamps
for UHF? We're using the Icom AG-35 and not happy with the noise figure.
We're going to try an adjustment described here
 http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/6116.

We are looking at the amps from ARR and SSB. Any other recommendations?

[amsat-bb] ARISSat-1 heard in EL92. CO6CBF, Hector

2011-07-31 Thread Hector Luis Martinez Sis

style type=text/cssp { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; }/style
Hello guys
I heard the ARISSat-1 with a great
signal in two passes today during its test transmission
04:55 ndash; 05:02 UTC Elevation 12
degrees
06:32 ndash; 0638 UTC Elevation 25
degrees
I heard the voice identification in
two languages and a SSTV image. As was expected, it was
transmitting about 40 seconds and then shut down for 2 minutes and then was
transmitting
for again for 40 seconds.
Fantastic!
