[amsat-bb] ISS digi activity
Seems to be a lot more QSO's going on any more. I guess we can blame KF7MYK for some of his posts months ago, thanks Kevin. I did get QSL cards from Brad, N5LUL and Josh W9HT, and had a lot of packet QSO's in the past couple months through the ISS including a couple with Kevin, it has been fun -- AB9RU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: THD 72 HT
I am sure I am not the only one that gave you the same advice, use the A side VFO to RX and the B VFO to TX. Unfortunately you cannot program cross band odd splits on the TH-D72, but it only adds one extra memory per sat. The downside is, is that you have to switch between VFO's to change the RX freq to adjust for doppler and switch the the other VFO to TX again, it can be simplified somewhat with the use of the SMC-33 speaker/mic with programmable buttons. It is a very nice HT to have On Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 5:54 PM, wrote: > Thanks to all that send me info on the Kenwood THD72.This link works > http://www.amsat.org/amsat/archive/amsat-bb/200901/msg13011.html > Thanks again > WA4HFN Damon > ___ > Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: ISS BBS/Message Board
I do remember some discussions on accessing the BBS during non-prime times, that may be 11pm to 4am for local times, I don't know. But if someone wants to get on the BBS between those hours I won't care one bit, I'll be sleeping. I know I don't see much real activity at my location at 5am until it gets closer to the US east coast. Your other post about the ISS BBS was in error, we were not using the BBS just the ISS digipeater. Anyone else's opinions on the best times to access the BBS? [amsat-bb] Re: Off Topic AO-27/ISS
Kevin When AO-27 is in digital mode it is transmitting telemetry, I think you can download the program to decode it on the AO-27 website. I haven't heard the digital on AO-51 but it is probably APRS/Packet and who knows why unless someone decodes it, there was a lot of packet on HO-68 when it was in FM mode but a lot was autobeacons meant for the ISS. The ISS sounded normal as far as signal strength on Saturday, but I haven't heard it since, the last pass(2140Z) was a high pass and I didn't hear anything on 145.800 or 145.825, can you decode any of the packets you hear? If they are from the ISS the packet will start with RS0ISS-4(or -3 as has been used recently for whatever reason) or the packet will have RS0ISS-4* or RS0ISS-3* indicating it was digipeated by the ISS. The RS0ISS-3 started being used around June 18, but it did use -4 a couple times since AB9RU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? [amsat-bb] Re: ISS
No problem Kevin. I dont rely on HRD sat tracker much but after seeing your message on the board I did some investigating to see what the problem actually was. My HRD sat tracking was lagging like yours for the ISS, I closed it and tried running as administrator and uploading keps and nothing changed. By chance I changed my keps on satpc32 from celestrak to amsat and the ISS was predicted to be the same position as HRD. That is how I came across the remedy for HRD, but when I eliminated the amsat site for keps downloads, all it showed was the moon no matter what sat I selected, so I shut down sat tracker and restarted and everything worked like it should. And before Alan asks again, my callsign is AB9RU, and thanks again Alan for your satpc32 doppler file, and Kevin good luck hunting packet QSO's on the ISS digi ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Better work that HF DX while you can!
If this is true, the last thing I am worried about is DX, I saw a tv show that talked about the mini ice age in the 1800's and they mentioned the cause was a lack of solar activity. Time to be cutting a lot of wood and buying more blankets if this is going to go on for 2 decades. The show had to be on Discovery or History channel. I haven't googled this(yet), but there has to be a trend and when did the decline start(sunspots)? ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? [amsat-bb] ISS digi QSO
What requirements are there for a valid QSO over the ISS digi? Is it the same as AO-51 where it is just an exchange of callsign and grid? Can it be done through the Comment text of an APRS HT like the VX8GR or THD72? Or is a tnc needed or software like UISS? ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. [amsat-bb] Re: Broadcasting
Bash Kevin if you want, but isn't 99.9% of all APRS broadcasting? You never really expect a response from anyone, and what true purpose does the digi on the ISS perform? Most of it is amateurs BROADCASTING their locations, no emergency traffic, the only real protocol is to ID and no swearing which both KF7MYK and KF7BUZ complied with, at least it wasn't HI HI, roger, roger ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: FT847 satpc32 help needed
Thanks Alan, Call is AB9RU, I plan on using the SSB sat entries to compare against the default doppler file to see where it may be in error for the 847. I never thought this would be easy, even after watching the WD9EWK videos but that is an example of what happens with experience and a good memory. I was hoping to be able to buy a Funcube dongle yesterday but was late, I figure it would be perfect using the SDR to find my downlink. From: Alan P. It should be on for every ascending pass about the time it crosses 28-30 degrees north latitude. the HRD logger program can be used to automatically update eQSL, QRZ, hrdlog.net.
